On How It’s Best Not to Get Lost In “The Tangle”

This film is more of a detective story than a hard boiled crime investigation

Big Brother watches over everything, and records every action people do in The Tangle. Just how they manage to record everything is with nanotechnology and micro drones! This chilling world is a well crafted Orwellian style look at what could be in our reality, and thankfully the film by actor / filmmaker Christopher Soren Kelly in his directorial debut in a feature length work knows a few boundaries that should not be crossed… or does it?

That various technologies employed to keep track of people include S.O.L. (Secure OnTangle Line), a quantum encrypted hard drive implanted in the brain of many. The purpose for all this monitoring is to prevent people from committing murder. This is the future of Los Angeles after all. More people are able to live that life they want in a virtual world known as Xanadu.

The Doxa Documentary Film Festival continues to stream direct to your home, and in part two, I look beyond the Pacific Northwest. This time, I’m travelling East to get a taste of what living in Toronto was once like, when a person of my namesake helped change the scene long ago. But home is where the heart is, no matter where you live. This includes finding love in a digital age.

Godzilla vs King Kong Licensing are Bursting out at the Seams!

Just what kind of fun merch can finds find leading up to the release of Godzilla vs Kong?

King Ghidorah 1991 Toy Godzilla vs KongTons of plans are in store prior to the November 20, 2020, release of Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. PicturesGodzilla vs King Kong!

Legendary and Toho Co. Ltd. announced a huge slate of licensees that will deliver a diverse offering of merchandise and experiences to fans as they gear up to see two of cinema’s biggest icons battle it out on the big screen. International toy titan Playmates has been named master toy partner, with forthcoming products themed to Godzilla vs. Kong, as well as additional product lines inspired by the Monsterverse and Classic Toho Monsters.

In what I hope for, if Diamond’s Previews catalogue is any indication, is collecting more than just display pieces of super-deformed versions of the monsters. Plush Kong? Perhaps not, but in what we know so far is the following, and my thoughts:

Is 3DRudder Rubbish for VR Users?

The 3dRudder is finally available for the PS4! It’s been available for a while for PC users, but when I’ve been virtual reality gaming on a console, I can’t think of any other uses other than to drive a tank instead of actually walking. Although I am still skeptical of using your feet (while seated) to emulate motion in an imaginary world, I feel the idea is not perfect in the long run.

It’s a shame navigating VR space for the home consumer is primitive. Go to CES, a military base or an arcade in South Asia, the likelihood of finding a hamster ball to walk around in for that illusion is better. Dedicated centres are not available worldwide. The better idea is to wait for holodecks which sadly won’t be coming anytime soon.

Crowdfunding a Megazone 23

Cinderella SwitchBy Ed Sum
(The Vintage Tempest)

Before The Matrix, there was Megazone 23. This Japanese original video animation was the first to suggest that people are living in an illusion. This anime is renowned for being one of the earliest influencers not only to similar films made in later years, but it hailed the silver age of anime. Macross (aka Robotech) was released around the same time. Music was a major influence in making Megazone23 just as memorable. While the sound is distinctly 80’s, so was the career of Miyasato Kumi (宮里久美) at the height of her career. She was the voice of the virtual singing idol, EVE.

Sadly, older video releases of this excellent series are out of print. Finding any copy is through either paying through the nose through eBay for a complete edition or waiting for bigger news to release. It was remastered in high definition for Bluray but is only available in Japan. Thankfully, that’s all about to change:
