PLAYISM to livestream & spotlight up-and-coming videogames!

PLAYISM, Japan’s oldest indie game publisher, renowned for some of the most anticipated upcoming titles and popular recent releases including Bright Memory: Infinite, Gnosia and Mighty Goose, announces the second annual PLAYISM Game Show: Premium Edition (PGS). This live event will include world premieres and all-new information for both upcoming and previously-released games in both English and Japanese on YouTube.

PGS is where this company will showcase titles that will take part in the Tokyo Game Show (TGS), Asia’s premier video game event. On Why Music Matters in Macross: Past, Present & Future

After catching the livestream of Macross Delta Tactical Sound Unit—1st LIVE in Zepp—Walküre Attack! last month, I was curious. How has the music of this fond anime franchise fared over the years? Mari Iijima defined everything that is the sound of the 90s series, and maintained it! The talents who would take over in the sequels adapted to the times and generally honour this singer’s original legacy. From Sharon Apple to Sheryl Nome, the sound has changed. It sometimes transcend pop and become something that we can equate to Lady Gaga’s shows in our world.

This concert shows why music is important to this franchise’s success. The nature of these performances plays on a musical theory I believe is at the core of the series. Boethius is a Roman philosopher who once said music can be broken up to three components. They are musica mundana (a universal appeal), musica humana (the internal sound heard by the human body) and musica quae (the harmonies projected by singers and instrumentalists).

That Ain’t No Fouke (or is it?) In Mytheries

Interestingly, the documentaries and fictional horror dramas feastured in this look at the Fouke monster bear a resemblance to Hammer films.

A new episode is now online of The Paranormal Network’s Mytheries. This time, the focus is on the Fouke Monster, a local Bigfoot type creature whose base of operations is in Fouke, Arkansas. It came into prominence in the early 1970s and whether it is real is still debated nearly 50 years later.

Jessica Dwyer, the series host, addresses both sides of the argument and, like previous shows, offers a point of view which includes how the monster of the month is ingrained in pop culture. She doesn’t add more to the lore, other than how it’s become part of this town’s livelihood. The addition of how the law is accepting of the influence–instead of discounting–says it all. This sweet update is all I need to know when investigations are infrequent.

Honestly, according to the Gregorian Calender, we still have a few more weeks of Summer left. But as most folks equate Labour Day as transitional period, Kaz of J-Pop Group, INTERSECTION, has another take. His single, “Summer is Over feat.Mai Anna,” epitomizes the feeling of Summer’s end and reflecting on all of the memories and romance of the season. This release follows his single “Drown feat. Hikari Mitsushima” which was released earlier this month.

“I have produced this song with a producer Solomon Fox, who is a singer-songwriter in the U.S. This song was created at the end of summer as the title says when I was 19. My friend Mai Anna, who goes to the same school as me, joined to write the lyrics.

Shoot ’em Up Again with Espgaluda II!

Espgaluda II offers a tutorial and novice mode for those new to this franchise.

Back in 2003, Espgaluda was released to arcades and it quickly gained a fan following. This vertical scroller was considered one of the best shoot ‘em ups and was ported to the PlayStation 2 in the same year. Even tougher levels were introduced in the console versions.

This game even saw a port to iOS, which received mixed reviews. Key to these games success is to have real buttons to push than a touch screen. Coming soon is a version to the Nintendo Switch!

Anyone new to this game may think of it as angels versus demi-gods; with boss levels taking its influence from Greco-Roman lore like the Moirai, Siren, Heracles and the brothers who founded Rome (Romulus and Remus). They’re the names of spaceships, and just why they’re battling the world of Shinra is explained as players delve into those tougher levels where the narrative unfolds. From the Shmups Wiki:
