Introducing Chevon, Where Surrealism Meets J-pop.

Hopefully as Chevon continues to rise up the charts, fans of Japanese pop music world-wide will take notice. Their latest single has a great message and the music video is worth the watch!

Chevon Album CoverSapporo-based rising band Chevon, whose elceletic style of music, has a new track that they’re promoting as they tour Japan! They love it loud, and I first noticed them because in the music video, titled Daikoushin, featured kaiju, and has tones similiar to Blue Oyster Cult’s Godzilla!

Their latest digital single is ‘meimei’, released early this month and there’s no word about when they’ll bring their act to other countries. It’s rare for me to want to see a Japanese act, and this band has become the exception. For those in Japan, the dates listed on Shazam.com are known.

From the Press Release:

With their latest track,. ‘meimei’ means “darkness,” and Chevon’s message is that “in an era when it’s considered best to be bright, it’s also OK to be dark – and it’s the dark ones among us who truly understand the sadness of others.”

The music video expresses a uniquely Japanese aesthetic in a similar vein to the illustration artwork for the ‘Meimei’ tour, resulting in a video that embraces the chaos of Chevon’s ‘Meimei’ world.

Muque’s latatest album features artwork from Give Me! Tomotaka, a character designer whose work is really world renonwned.

Muque Cartoon CoverJust how unique Japanese band muque (pronounced “muku”) is depends on whether you like hip hop funk or not. They have just released a new song, ‘desert,’ which brings more acoustic to tech, and if you like new wave, it’s a tune to listen on the radio–or digital airwaves as they’re broadcast today!

This four-piece band featuring members Asakura (vocals and guitar), Lenon (bass), takachi (track making and drums) and Kenichi (guitar) is a relatively young bang. They formed in 2022 and are based out of Fukuaka. Their sound is mostly arranged by takachi, who says he combines what he likes from American and British music into a crazy fusion.

BACK-ON is Lighting the Way with Gundam Build Metaverse OP ‘Hikari To Kaze’

It’s time to get BACK-ON with Gundam Build Universe’s latest hit single, now available to stream online!

BACK-ON_Hikari to Kaze_JKTThe powerhouse Japanese rock and hip hop band BACK-ON’s opening theme ‘Hikari to Kaze’ for the Gundam Build Metaverse web series is here, and for gunpla enthusiasts, there’s a lot to enjoy from this song. This upbeat track is also available to download and stream, and it’s keen play on words with the Japanese meanings behind ‘Hikari’ (which translates to power, illumination, or vision) with the word ‘kaze’ (meaning ‘wind’) is a concept which works very well in this Gundam univesres but also is the very foundation of what this music group represents too.

KENJI03, the band’s guitarist and songwriter commented, “The Build series is celebrating its 10th anniversary, so I created this song with the image of new challenges and the future that lies ahead. We wanted to take a different approach from our past material, while keeping to a fundamental concept we’ve had since the formation of BACK-ON: ‘Hikari to Kaze’. So I hope people can feel the link between the series’ story, but also our own experience as a band, and I hope that whoever listens can feel us giving them a little nudge to take on what the future holds for them. I can’t wait to hear the lyrics and see the animation at the same time!! Please check it out!”
