Top 10 Picks From Discotek Deep Dives 2026 Spring Release Schedule

Discotek Deep Dives 2026 is shaping up to be a strong year for anime collectors, with long-lost favourites and cult classics finally getting the Blu-ray treatment. These ten picks stand out as the most essential upgrades worth adding to your shelf.

DEEP DIVES 2026 DiscoTek Media AnimeDiscotek’s ongoing DEEP DIVES 2026 initiative has a stack of upcoming releases that should make Spring especially exciting for anime fans. Many out-of-print anime titles from the 90s and earlier are getting fresh re-releases, and some are finally arriving on Blu-ray. Fans will want to check back regularly as new titles keep being added. Rather than list everything now available for pre-order through MediaOCD, I’m focusing on my ten must-have picks. Since parts of my own collection are still sitting in the VHS and DVD era, an upgrade feels more than worthwhile.

This partnership also helps ensure that even obscure titles from the 90s receive high-bitrate encodes and carefully prepared subtitles from some of the industry’s most dedicated technical experts. What follows are ten must-have releases, or essential upgrades if you do not already own these editions. The links go to the company site. Some titles are slowly getting listed on Amazon USA and are noted where possible.

  • Captain HarlockCaptain Harlock: Arcadia of My YouthThis 1982 film serves as the definitive origin story for Leiji Matsumoto’s legendary space pirate as he resists an alien occupation of Earth. It remains a sweeping space opera that establishes Harlock’s tragic past and his unbreakable code of honour.

Old-School Magic Returns in Mirage 7, A Forgotten Crusade

Mirage 7 may follow a familiar action-adventure path, but its desert setting, survival-lite mechanics, and story-driven mystery give it enough character to stand apart. Its greatest strength so far is not reinvention, but how confidently it guides players through Nadira’s haunting journey.

Within the heart of Mirage 7 lies a familiar game design framework. For this first-person adventure-shooter, the main difference is whether you are slinging rocks at targets or eating scorpions for dinner. Players switch between young Nadira, a desert dweller searching for her missing sister, and Jiji, the pet lizard who protects her while she sleeps. The concept itself is not especially new, but the game still has enough flavour to stand out, especially through its Arabian Nights-inspired setting and its blend of exploration, mystery, and survival.

After spending some time with the Steam version on PC, I was impressed with the story more than the actual gameplay. This game is familiar enough that the muscle memory developed by playing similar games like Tomb Raider quickly returns. The keyboard and mouse controls feel comfortable, and while I did not get a chance to test a controller, the game seems like it would lend itself well to that option too.

An Italian Kung-Fu Hustle Is Happening In The Forbidden City. Is Yaxi Prepared?

The Forbidden City blends Italian gangster cinema with martial arts action as a woman searches Rome’s Chinatown for her missing sister. Yaxi Liu’s transition from stunt performer to leading actor anchors the film, even if the choreography and story occasionally stumble. Strong cinematography and cultural tension keep the experience visually engaging.

When filmmaker Gabriele Mainetti mixes high-octane gangster action with martial arts in modern-day Rome’s Chinatown, The Forbidden City becomes a clash of cultures that feels both unusual and ambitious. Whether the conflict comes through fists or gunfire, two very different worlds collide when Mei (Yaxi Liu) arrives searching for her missing sister. The reason for that search becomes clearer in the opening sequence. The siblings were secretly raised during China’s one-child policy era, and although the film never fully reveals when they were separated, the implication is that Mei has spent years searching.

Part of me still feels this story might have worked better as a period piece. That said, what Mainetti presents is effective in its own way. The film offers a glimpse of how Chinatowns exist beyond the usual cinematic settings of North America or Asia. In this case, the story unfolds in Rome. Without the occasional landmark or explicit mention, the location can be easy to miss, but the cinematography and production design give the city a textured, lived-in feel.

Like a Bat Out of Hell, Luc Besson’s Dracula is Flying Fast to VOD!

Luc Besson’s Dracula is arriving on VOD on March 10, 2026. Starring Caleb Landry Jones, Christoph Waltz, and Zoë Bleu, this romantic reimagining of the vampire myth also stands as one of Vertical’s biggest theatrical successes to date.

Straight out of theatres and into your home, Luc Besson’s Dracula is ready to strike beginning March 10, 2026. It is already listed on Prime Video, and is reported to be one of Vertical’s highest-grossing releases to date. This romantic reimagining stars Caleb Landry Jones, Christoph Waltz, and Zoë Bleu, and offers a bold new take on the iconic vampire myth.

In my review, I noted that Dracula: A Love Tale reshapes the familiar myth into a sweeping gothic romance driven by loss, reincarnation, and pulp energy. Caleb Landry Jones leans hard into the Count’s theatrical menace, while Christoph Waltz gives Van Helsing a scene-stealing presence that helps keep the film lively. Though the digital effects can feel uneven, the film still lands as an entertaining and memorable take on the legend.

Although a Blu-ray and DVD release date has not yet been announced, seeing this vampire reincarnate around Easter would be rather ironic indeed.

Release Date: May 12, 2026

The story continues in The Legend of Hei, the acclaimed Chinese animated film that won audiences over with its beautiful hand-drawn animation and heartfelt storytelling. For anyone who missed the original, the movie is available online, with the home video still easy to find. Now the sequel, The Legend of Hei 2, arrives with a brand-new adventure filled with fresh dangers and a looming threat from the spirit world.

While the premise of maintaining balance between worlds may sound familiar, this story takes its own path. The conflict between spirits and humans is a universal theme, but this sequel expands the mythology in new directions rather than echoing other animated series. Readers can check out my review of the first film here.

The upcoming Blu-ray release of The Legend of Hei 2 arrives May 12, 2026 from GKIDS and Shout! Studios, bringing the acclaimed animated sequel home with several behind-the-scenes extras.

From the Press Release:

Revered for its luminous hand-drawn animation and emotionally rich storytelling, The Legend of Hei 2 reunites audiences with a world where spirits and humans coexist in uneasy harmony, raising the stakes with a sweeping new chapter that balances heart, humor, and kinetic action.

Astounding! Another Eden Returns as Another Eden Begins.

Another Eden Begins reimagines the mobile RPG as a nostalgic, story-driven remake shaped by Chrono Trigger’s Masato Kato. With multiple endings, curated companions, and time-spanning drama, this Summer 2026 release modernizes a classic without losing its melancholy heart.

Another Eden Begins Switch VersionAnother Eden isn’t just another mobile RPG. It’s a deliberate love letter to 90s-era Japanese role-playing games and it’s getting modernized for fans. Simply titled Another Eden Begins, what’s offered is a remake that cares more about mood, music, and melancholy than daily log-ins. What really gives it weight is Masato Kato, the writer behind Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross, shaping its narrative DNA. You can feel it in how time fractures, how memory lingers, and how the story trusts players to slow down.

And honestly, with Armed Fantasia still drifting somewhere in development limbo, this might be the closest thing to scratching that classic Chrono itch. Another Eden Begins is set for a Summer 2026 release, revisiting the First Arc of the original game, “The Cat Beyond Time and Space.” Redesigning the game that started it all helps newcomers get acquainted with the world. What’s different is mostly cosmetic, reworked for a 128-bit processing environment. This game will be available on PC (Steam), Switch, and Switch 2.
