Ghostbusters Spirits Unleashed Coming Oct 18th

Ghostbusters Spirits Unleashed is a 4v1 hunt and haunt action-packed asymmetrical multiplayer now available for pre-order!

Ghostbusters Spirits Unleashed Key ArtThe Ghostbusters are back in business once again, but this time it’s as a videogame! Although there’s no signs of a virtual reality version, Ghostbusters Spirits Unleashed is a 4v1 hunt and haunt action-packed asymmetrical multiplayer now available for pre-order!  The trailer picks up from where the last movie, Afterlife, left off, with Hudson as the CEO, and it’s terrific we got a narrative to go along with the gameplay.

This product from IllFonic, Inc. will be available come Tuesday, October 18, 2022, on PC via Epic Games Store, PlayStation 4|5, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One.

From the Press Release

Form a team with up to three other Ghostbusters to track down Ghosts haunting a number of locales. Sniff out paranormal activity with the P.K.E. Meter and charge it to unleash a short-range pulse disabling Ghost movement. Unveil hidden rifts acting as the Ghost’s spawn points and teleportation portals, and destroy them. Use the powerful Particle Throwers to capture the Ghost, deploy a trap, and wrangle them into it before they escape!

Kokoro Clover is a Cute Homage to 90s Cartoons in Video Game Format, But….

Although there are other options to keep me engaged with Kokoro Clover, I didn’t find them all terribly exciting.

Kokoro CloverAvailable for Nintendo Switch and Steam

Kokoro Clover is more than a video game. The developers also designed it to resemble a Saturday morning cartoon series, where each level is resembles an episode. If the full title–Kokoro Clover Season One–is telling, we may see another game to be released in a year’s time, but I suspect we’ll only get one.

This product is for fans of the magical girl genre. Phoenixx Inc. created a cute enough product, but ultimately, if you can’t get into the story, then finishing it is difficult. That was the problem I faced, since the tale is nothing like those series I adored from long ago.

I was curious because of a few mecha designs straight out of Samurai Pizza Cats, but that faded away when it became more like Sailor Moon than Slayers.

Mothmen 1966. Drawn to it Like a Moth to the Flame.

As a piece of hyper-fiction, Mothman 1966 forgets what’s important early in the game.

mothman 1966It’s rare to find hyper-fiction in any form these days, and Mothmen 1966 is such a game where it honours the tradition. This type of narrative is used in role playing video games in varying capacities. Sometimes, it’s just your traditional choose-your-own-adventure type scenario and other times, you can’t reach the end unless you follow that set path. In the games I’ve played, if you miss an important bit, it’s usually game over.

This game by novelist Nico Saraintaris and artist Fernando Martinez Ruppel, is a ‘Pixel Pulp’ more than the aforementioned style. And the defining details are in the 8 bit graphic design. It ranges from still images to a few frames of animated bliss. But as for whether you can beat the game, it means taking the time to read the many scrolling text pages, solve some puzzles–which includes card games (namely Solitaire) along the way–and surviving.

Krut The Mythic Wings and The Himmaphan Warriors. On What’s Wrong and Where to Find it

The 3D illusion in Krut The Mythic Wings is a pleasant touch. The only shame is that you can not run and fight in all four directions like some modern fighters.

Krut The Mythic WingsPlayers must master dodging and be skilled at slaying enemies in Krut The Mythic Wings without getting hit if they are to survive this multi platform video game. It’s available on many systems. If that isn’t hard enough, collecting the soul orbs is even worse. Thus, only the worthy need to apply. Here, you play an eagle-headed warrior of the Garuda race and have to overcome all the obstacles in six levels to master the elements. Having that skill is required before being allowed to get mystical armour before taking on the rock ogres again.

If you have seen the Indonesian movie, Krut: The Himmaphan Warriors, which this game is inspired by, then it’s almost worth comparing. The trailer (see below) shows off a PS3 level graphics akin the very first God of War PS3 videogame. The version we get to play is crisper and much more colourful. And by the mid-way point, we see how this version of Krut gains his Mythic Wings. To note, despite what Google says, it is not available on either Disney Plus or Netflix (Canada). I had no luck finding it from online sources. The cost to import the DVD from YesAsia is crazy when you don’t take advantage of the free international shipping offer (i.e. order a lot), or you can search eBay for it.

Super UFO Fighter Isn’t So Duper

Super UFO Fighter isn’t all that exciting unless you’re playing against friends. Even then, the novelty wears thin after a while.

Nintendo SwitchSuper UFO FIghter Screenshot and Steam (PC)

The concept behind Super UFO Fighter from Japanese indie developer VV-LABO is simple. It is like those arcade crane games where you are struggling to pull a prize out of a huge bin of goodies. But, unlike the physical version, there’s an opponent to stop you! Not everybody is aware of the popularity of UFO Catchers in Japan, but they have been around for more than a decade (with the original being much older), and they have become quite the phenomenon since SEGA helped popularise them.

Plus, I must note the physical arcade game is much more rewarding. Often, the prize is a stuffed doll from some beloved franchise. In the Land of the Rising Sun, we can find characters like Pikachu, Sonic the Hedgehog or Hello Kitty. At high end boutiques, sometimes they can include electronics. But as for a video game version, not every variation offers digital rewards unless the game is programmed to offer NFTs,
