Will RailGods of Hysterra Be Fired Up and Ready for Travel in April?

Hopefully, the developers corrected the issues I found in the demo release for RailGods of Hysterra’s Early Access.

Railgods of Hysterra Video Game PosterEarly Access Will Be Available on April 10, 2025

Troglobytes GamesRailGods of Hysterra is a survival game which needs an accessibility option if I’m going to keep playing. That’s because the text was incredibly tiny! Even on a 45 inch screen, I had trouble reading and there were no in-game controls to adjust contrast. I spent a week with the demo before deciding to get my eyes checked. They’re good, but even when I revisited it, I struggled with reading.

When there’s a game inspired by H.P. Lovecraft’s fantasy world known as the Dreamlands. I’m certainly excited. Although it doesn’t borrow from any of ths stories, I’m sure it’s just a matter of time to find tie-in material. For now, this game is about surviving this world. When this version mixes up resource management, item builds and land exploration, I better be careful about what’s ’round the corner.

From Dec 2024 with Attack on Titan VR: Unbreakable to Last Attack in 2025, is this IP Over?

To compare Spider-Man VR to Attack on Titan VR wouldn’t be fair. Both came out about the same time last month, but neither are fully complete.

Attack on Titan VR Unbreakable CardI suspect not every fan of Hajime Isayama‘s best-known series will rush to play Attack on Titan VR: Unbreakable (AoTVR). Developer UNIVRSE provided an early access version early last year, and it was playable. However, bugs made some aspects difficult. Last month, version 1.0 was made public on various platforms, including the Meta 2, which I played on.

One good thing about this virtual reality game is that nobody needs prior knowledge about the anime/manga to enjoy. The introduction brings gamers up to speed. I wanted a first-person perspective of being eaten! There are some scary moments put into getting picked up by one! Unfortunately, this experience doesn’t get that visceral because that would require a personal computer system to render all the graphic detail.

Salt and Sacrifice – A Dark Fantasy Journey with Some Rough Edges

The potential for expanded world-building remains untapped, leaving players of Salt and Sacrifice yearning for a more intricate narrative.

Salt and Sacrifice Key ArtSka Studio‘s latest instalment, Salt and Sacrifice, follows in the footsteps of its predecessor, Salt and Sanctuary. The game plunges players into a dark fantasy world, with gameplay clearly inspired by the challenging Dark Souls series. While it delivers on atmosphere and gameplay, it comes with its share of drawbacks. This game is a 2D side scrolling dark fantasy that plays out in the style of the Dark Souls series. This means pattern memorization, dodge rolls, punishing difficulty, and many MANY deaths as the adventure progresses.

From the outset, players create their character, a convicted criminal who has been condemned to hunt rogue Mages. There are several job classes available, so players can choose skills based on what kind of play style they want to tackle the game with. After immediately being thrown into an unwinnable battle, the condemned is resurrected and tasked with continuing the mage hunts as a half-alive inquisitor, unable to escape their duty even through death. These corrupted magic-users have taken monstrous forms based on whatever form of magic they had practiced as humans, and the player will need to prepare appropriately to survive these battles.

30XX, A Modern Take on a Classic Formula

One of 30XX’s standout features is its snappy and responsive controls. Dashing, jumping, and wall-climbing are intuitive, with a helpful tutorial zone for newcomers.

30XX, developed and published by Batterystaple Games, is an indie action platformer that pays homage to the iconic Mega Man X series from the 90s. Serving as a sequel to 20XX, this roguelite game offers a unique experience with procedurally generated levels, two distinct characters, and a mix of classic gameplay elements with modern twists.

Gameplay:

30XX invites players to choose between two characters: Nina and Ace. Nina wields a versatile blaster and can augment her arsenal with the powers of defeated enemies, while Ace relies on his laser sword, boasting wide swings and efficient energy regeneration. The story is simple yet effective: Nina and Ace must protect Earth from rampaging robots.

Maybe Ghostbusters Spirits Unleashed Needs Other DLCs to Keep Gamers Going

The update to Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed gives us gamers a few new things. The latest map reminds me of Riverview, an abandoned and haunted mental health facility in Coquitlam, BC.

Ghostbusters Spirits UnleashedWith the latest tweaks to IllFonic’s Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed and a bit of new content that’s not technically a full on DLC, I can return to this game. It was released late October, in time for the Halloween crowd, but unless you put your name down for a copy, it was hard to find a physical copy during that month.

When I eventually got it gifted to me during holiday break and I sat down to play, the difficulty level was just crazy. The missions can’t be won solo because the AI bots aren’t all that helpful. Gamers need to depend on real life teammates in LAN parties or online to succeed. To catch that pesky ghost requires cooperation and communication rather than waiting for the next case to goop all over them. When news of a DLC was announced, I hoped it included some essential fixes.

Thankfully, it’s not important to achieve victory since after so many missions, the cut scenes will show up to move the story along. But as for that wish-list, none of the improvements spiritually manifested.

Knight Squad 2’s “Switch” to Handheld Play!

The fantasy basics are more or less adhered to with your traditional combat weaponry. However, the joy is when other non-traditional (modern) weapons become part of the equation

Knight Squad 2 is one of those “cute” party-games which is better with real life team-mates (or opponents) than the AI. It’s a lot more fun and I daresay better than the Nickelodeon television show bearing a similar name (no relation). The standalone mode is very good to help players get used to dodging. One hack or slash is enough to slay the player’s avatar (which can be very frustrating for newcomers). The real challenge is in those mini-games where teams have to work together to have each other’s back than to individually win the day! True to the original, the action is with trying to nail one another in attacks that you don’t see coming.

This sequel to the original was originally developed for desktop PC and to have it on Nintendo Switch is certainly perfect since it handles multiplayer quite well. In addition to Steam and Epic (for the Windows system), I hope a Mac version is being worked on. Continue reading “Knight Squad 2’s “Switch” to Handheld Play!”
