Darkwing Duck. Who’s Faster Than Lightning in this Kickstarter Campaign to Please The Masses?

We all love Darkwing Duck, and the question is, will the love continue in the comic book front or animated? So far, the money is on the former….

While it’s tough to say if Disney will produce a new series featuring Darkwing Duck, fans can thankfully get to enjoy a blast of the past in the comic book front through Dynamite Comics latest Kickstarter effort! The last time he graced the screen was in the DuckTales reboot (2017). In “Beware the B.U.D.D.Y. System!” this hero is made-up. That is, he’s the star of a television show about a comic book hero. He’s not the same quack we know and we’re treated to a new origin story of sorts. It’s a novel way to reintroduce this hero, and I enjoyed it. Thankfully two more episodes were produced featuring this fowl getting his feet wet in the game of crime fighting, and they were good, but this isn’t the same Duck we knew before….

But for fans of the original, what’s being offered and also improved upon in the comic book department makes up for some fun reading. I suspect this publisher’s plan is to see if they have enough support so they can extend the licence for brand new material in 2025.

Disney’s Gargoyles. Ready to Burst at the Seams Again!

At long last, casual fans of Disney’s Gargoyles can pick up reprints of the comic books released by other publishers prior to Dynamite Comics’ acquisition!

Fans of Disney’s Gargoyles can rejoice! The elusive comic books from yesteryears are getting a digital cleanup and will be reprinted! After Dynamite Comic‘s Kickstarter campaign to publish the 30th anniversary editions is over, it may head to stores next.

Whatever the background drama wase to finally make this happen, at least the wait will be worth it. I imagine that because this new publisher has been doing very well with reimaging a lot of Disney properites recently, to visit this particular 90s Disney Afternoon favourite was inevitable. Back in the last decade, fans have been patient and campaigning to get the animated series out on home video.

Darkwing Duck, Dynamite Comics and Disney. What Can Go Wrong?

The danger that quacks in the night is back! And we look at the first two issues of Dynamite Comic’s Darkwing Duck.

Darkwing Duck #2 comic book cover The difference between the various releases of Darkwing Duck in comic book form is in what aspect of Drake Mallard’s life should be the focus. The first take from Disney dealt with his heroics, Boom! Studios had longer narrative arcs in the same vein, and when licensing changed hands again to Joe Books (a lesser known company), I lost track. It’s easier to follow the animated series instead. The latest series by Dynamite Comics thankfully doesn’t try to acknowledge those past works as far as I know.

As much as I’d love to keep up with non canonical tales, sometimes all I need is one Duck, and one vision. He worked alone before making friends who becomes his sidekicks. Thankfully this latest honours the early spirit that defines the series. Here, we read about Mallard’s attempt to keep Gosalyn safe, and the only way is to hang up the cape. When he’s not present, she’s a magnet for trouble. Two issues in, to save her than other people are becoming too much.

Some Fans Strongly Want A Disney’s Gargoyles Reboot, But…

Should Disney’s Gargoyles be given a reboot? Some fans are against, and others just want a continuation.

Disney's Gargoyles The past few years have shown fond properties remade for a new generation. Duck Tales was one which started broadcasting last year. Now into its second season, Ben10 is going strong. Over the long weekend, ReBoot started streaming on Netflix (USA & other regions other than Canada). Coming later this year is yet another iteration of Transformers and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Also on the list is Invader Zim, Muppet Babies and Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?

In a random conversation with fellow older geeks, one pal suggested TailSpin ought to be next. I feel not every show from Disney Afternoon can make that comeback. If Darkwing Duck can appear in Duck Tales, could a spin-off be coming? My show was Rescue Rangers and it was the reason why I never got any homework done (until much later in the day). Gargoyles was also part, and the team behind crafting this fantastic series did a wonderful job. Not only did it tug at many literary allusions but it also pulled from various mythologies to craft a world that was steeped in folklore. Some were in plain sight, watching the ongoing trials of man, and others preferred to remain in secrecy.

Released over the holiday weekend is a fan trailer recreating a few moments from the opening sequence of Gargoyles. This CGI treatment shows the technology is here to bring this show to the next level. Some shots are from New York City proper, and others are digital. The blend worked very well. However, to nail the perfect voice-over is hard; I kept on wanting to hear Keith David’s voice instead of this poor man’s version. This product is a fan film. I had to disengage some filters. This tease ultimately worked. I pulled out my DVDs and started watching the series again .

Disney Afternoon’s Rescue Rangers gets a Live-Action Film Treatment!

Some times some crimes go slippin’ through the cracks, and this time Chip n’ Dale’s Rescue Rangers will come to life as a feature-length live-action movie. The rodents will no doubt be rendered in CGI and this concept should prove interesting. The Hollywood Reporter is letting Disney Afternoon fans know that these chipmunks with a penchant for danger are going after more than just cheese. Well, that’s if Monty, a pudgy adventure-loving mouse, has anything to say about it.
