Darkwing Duck. Who’s Faster Than Lightning in this Kickstarter Campaign to Please The Masses?

We all love Darkwing Duck, and the question is, will the love continue in the comic book front or animated? So far, the money is on the former….

Darkwing Duck Darkly Dawns the DuckNow on Kickstarter

While it’s tough to say if Disney will produce a new series featuring Darkwing Duck, fans can thankfully get to enjoy a blast of the past in the comic book front through Dynamite Comics latest Kickstarter effort! The last time he graced the screen was in the DuckTales reboot (2017). In “Beware the B.U.D.D.Y. System!” this hero is made-up. That is, he’s the star of a television show about a comic book hero. He’s not the same quack we know and we’re treated to a new origin story of sorts. It’s a novel way to reintroduce this hero, and I enjoyed it. Thankfully two more episodes were produced featuring this fowl getting his feet wet in the game of crime fighting, and they were good, but this isn’t the same Duck we knew before….

But for fans of the original, what’s being offered and also improved upon in the comic book department makes up for some fun reading. I suspect this publisher’s plan is to see if they have enough support so they can extend the licence for brand new material in 2025.

Darkwing Duck Cowl and FowlAnyone who doesn’t have comic book series published back in 1991 by Disney Productions has a chance to pick up the first volume. This book will also include the ten issues from Marvel Comics. That’s all that’s been made; copies of those works are hard to come by and fetch hefty eBay prices, and not everyone wants that.

What is being offered by this new licence holder aims to fix all that, and also bind their recent releases into a hardcover format. There’s three series in all–the original Darkwing Duck, Justice Ducks and Negaduck. This release differs from the standard one that comes after all the individual issues are put out. It’s a premium version which comes with a lot of cool swag / stretch goals on top. But if you’re content to get the bookstore edition, both Justice Ducks and Negaduck can be picked up when they get released in the coming months.

My guess is that the publisher wants to make sure they recoup the costs in bringing this hero in the quack shell back into the mainstream. So far, support has been great, and that’ll mean they can produce even more mini series for next year!
