Gamdias Powers Forth with PC Products

By Ed Sum (The Vintage Tempest)

Gamdias-logo1Gamdias is moreorless a new player in the North American third-party PC accessories scene. The Taiwanese company was founded in 2012, where its products (designer mice, mouse pads and keyboards) were first made available to Asia before branching out to a world-wide market. Had their products been made available for use in a wider spectrum, like for artists (with their mats) and Xbox/ Playstation compatibility (with their headsets), then this company might get a following.

For example, game enthusiasts may well enjoy using this company’s products while playing games like God of War or Halo. With this company’s product line taking their name from the gods of this Mediterranean culture, there’s no denying that there is a coolness factor for fans of classic mythology to take note of.

Japan’s New Nintendo 3DS gets the Zelda Makeover

x2v4ppynlbukki0zm9nz-1As expected and predicted by Otaku’s Vintage Tempest, Nintendo’s New 3DS — the non XL version — is getting a facelift in the form of an eloquent faceplate to have Zelda fans lusting over. The sleek black on muted black, with only a golden emblem is far more sexy to croon over than the gold brick with a painted on mask. This newer design has more of an emotional appeal to it than the fan service item that Nintendo of America is offering in its limited edition Majora’s Mask Nintendo 3DS XL model.

Sadly, this item is only available for the Japanese market, but soon, either on eBay or through online resellers, this item can become obtainable through alternative secondary sources.

No. 056 is a different design featuring the Skull Kid looking rather forlorn in misty forest. Even this design shows a love that not many other collectible art models demonstrates. Maybe it’s time to move to Japan. At least over there, the company is showing an appreciation for what fantastic art is supposed to be.

What’s With All the Fuss with Nintendo’s “New” 3DS and Majora’s Mask?

By Ed Sum (The Vintage Tempest)

414ckkVU26LHonestly, all the hubbub about the “New” Nintendo’s 3DS and 3DS XL is rather droll. In order to distinguish between this model and the older one, why isn’t a better name, like the 3DS2 (or XL2) be used? Sometimes I wonder if there’s a fear of making this device sound like a name of a particular droid from Buzz Lightyear of Star Command.

Aside from a few new technical upgrades that I think ergonomic experts may find not as comfortable, the big issue is the fact this company still has not upgraded the picture resolution of its external cameras! Some users, especially me when I go travelling, want an ideal all-in-one unit to browse the Internet, take a photo to share online (what it can do now is too small and often grainy) and play music or games with.

One Tech Geek’s Dream for Christmas Day

edphoto

If there’s another nerdy wish list for Santa to look at, I can only hope that maybe one item from this list will be under my tree.

In this case, maybe a few items will finally get a proper release date because they are still stuck in their development cycle. Just maybe, one day, I will find a TARDIS waiting for me to take me on a whirlwind trip around the world. Who doesn’t want to time travel just to witness how the Egyptian pyramids were truly built? And besides, with the first item on my list, I can take home some souvenirs!

[Victoria, BC] Cherry Bomb Toy’s Indiegogo is a GO!

By Ed Sum (The Vintage Tempest)
1069719-01Cherry Bomb Toys’ Indiegogo campaign launched today just as NASA’s Orion rocket accomplished a successful bid to reach higher than ever in both their plans to soar to star-studded goals. One is to own a building and the other is for humanity to travel to the planet Mars. Both will happen!

As Christmas approaches, more folks are open to contributing to worthy causes to help keep the momentum going. And in this business’ case, it’s to make the dream of expanding their operation to include a classic toy museum and vintage arcade parlour to feature the highlights of what last century’s toys and games have impacted popular culture. As the previous article explained, there’s a lot of ideas being planned. All Candice and Biagio Woodward need is the support of Victorians and toy enthusiasts around the world to help make this dream happen!

People can contribute nearly any amount. There’s the Big Buck ($1), High5 ($5), The10Up ($10), and Time Traveller ($25) to name a few of the campaign levels. All the details can be found on their Indiegogo campaign page, but in the meantime, please enjoy their pitch!

Disney Infinity’s 2015 Roundup

By Ed Sum (The Vintage Tempest)

Screen-Shot-2013-08-27-at-2Disney Infinity video game enthusiasts will be in for multiple treats next year. In an interview with Computer and Videogames, Disney Interactive’s John Vignocchi and John Blackburn teased at the inclusion of the Star Wars universe. If there’s a date to guess at, that may come to coincide with the theatrical release of Episode 7: The Force Unleashed. The new hope is that not only the classic quadruplet —Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo and Chewbacca — be featured in this toy line but also the characters from Star Wars: Rebels. Patches to the game engine will be required if the Force abilities and lightsaber actions are going to be fully realized.

The likelihood of seeing the live action film translated over to the toy franchise first is slim. To see the original cast in their youthful form is most likely not even in the books. In order to get the attention of older fans still into gaming, this company will be very remiss not to. For new legions missing the CGI from the TV series, hopefully all the figurines will have a Clone Wars style look to them.
