Changing “Destiny” in “The River of Time” can be a B*tch in DC’s Legends of Tomorrow

In order for the Earth to survive in Legends of Tomorrow, only a Thanagarian can defeat one of their own.

vlcsnap-2016-05-14-04h52m47s386Trying to circumvent destiny is nigh impossible in DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. Rip Hunter has only one chance to prevent his wife and son’s death, and he’s screwed it up. He can not try again, and now he has to accept the role The Endless Destiny has in store for him. This noun has been used far too much throughout the series and I’m starting to think it’s in reference to a living cosmic force.

The only way to change the demise of Rip’s family is to confront the person holding The Book of Souls and this character existed in the DC universe decades before author Neil Gaiman adopted him to become part of his Sandman world. While the Vertigo Comics universe does not necessarily exist in this series, I like to think these cosmic entities are persistant much like how Q endures in the Star Trek universe. Desire and Despair shape this leader’s feelings every week in his need to elude a dark future.

Last week’s “River of Time” was a throwaway piece to set up Vandal Savage’s big reveal as a servant of the Time Masters. However it’s doubtful he enjoys being manipulated like a puppet just to deal with a greater threat. In “Destiny,” the Thanagarians are coming and the reasons why are not too clear. According to the time lords, without him to lead the world, humanity will be destroyed by this mysterious race. However, for viewers familiar with the DC comics universe, Hawkman and Hawkgirl came from this world! While the series revealed Chay-ara and Khufu as Egyptians consumed by a meteorite’s radiation, thus mutating them (and Savage), I wonder if they might have some spiritual connection with that alien home world in an ancient astronaut kind of way. After rewatching the episode a few more times, I’m also questioning the rock’s origins. Might it be from Thanagar.

Wind up Geek’s Cool Japan: Cool Commercials – ANA’s Cover of Star Wars Theme

But what truly stands out are the commercials ANA presents us with. In it, we are given a front row seat to the daily goings on at the All Nippon flight company.

ANAAll Nippon Airways (ANA) rolled out this commercial on their official YouTube channel the day before Star Wars fans were to wish each other May the Fourth (or “may the force be with you, always”). This commercial that ANA has produced promotes their specially painted Star Wars passenger jets, three of them in fact. The jets were finished on October 2015, just in time for the release of Star Wars VII – The Force Awakens in theatres in this country.

The first jet is emblazoned with the Star Wars logo whereas the other jets each represented characters from the Star Wars films, both old and new. For the older fans, you can be a passenger on a jet adorned as R2-D2, but for fans who have been introduced to the Star Wars universe through the latest film, BB-8 may be more familiar.

Nothing New is Offered in Ratchet and Clank Movie Adaptation

Ratchet and Clank is made for fans of the video game and I was dismayed that this film is just a retelling of the game instead of a new product.

Ratchet and Clank Movies based on video games are often a hit and miss affair with the masses. Not everyone will have played it. Very few end up as spectacular. Try as many studios might for a memorable blockbuster, most end up as a so bad it’s good category. Not many end up with sequels. Resident Evil, Tomb Raider and Silent Hill are the only exceptions to this list. Maybe the problem lies in who these films are intended for. The latest entry, Ratchet and Clank, is definitely aimed at the kids.

This tale comes complete with the obligatory lessons for youths to take home. This film shows how Ratchet (James Arnold Taylor) should never give up on his dream of being part of the Galactic Rangers. When the anthropomorphic world is filled with critters trying to make a difference in a dog eat dog world of humans glory hounding victories, just how this garage mechanic is going to become a soldier is going to be tough. He has to convince the egotistical Captain Qwark (Jim Ward) to let him join. From here, I thought I was watching Disney Afternoon’s Buzz Lightyear of Star Command. This cartoon was developed in 2000 and the game did not emerge till 2002. For instance, Mira wanted to be part of the galactic police force, but many people (Buzz and her royal parents) were hesitant. While the short robot X-R and Clank (David Kaye) are different personalities, both fill a very similar role. A part of what I loved in this series is in how a brotherhood of trust is developed, and this film moves in a very similar flow. A part of the plot that’s enjoyable is in how Ratchet wants to see the good in everyone, including those who have seemingly chosen to sell out.

(Updated) Tips on Streamlining Your Carry-on Convention Essentials For Year-Round Fun!

Just how well prepared are you for convention season? Whether that’d be local or with SDCC, we got a list to get you ready!

(Fan Expo Vancouver Entryway Updated for 2023)

Being prepared for any broad spectrum / pop culture convention can be easy. With shows taking place anytime and anywhere, I’m sure what I’ve learned over the decades in attending still applies. After checking out many shows ranging from Anime Expo to Emerald City Comicon up and down the West Coast and experimenting, I want to make the most of the show without having a massive backpack on me. Even if I’m just there for two days out of the three (or four as some have expanded to), nobody wants to carry Fort Knox on their back.

Thoughts on the Trailer for Pokémon Sun & Moon!

pokemon-20th-anniversaryThe Sun and Moon are going to arrive together come November 18, 2016, for this latest instalment of the Pokémon franchise. Unlike previous teases of what’s to come for this video game for the Nintendo New 3DS XLMacross Delta (as featured in the trailer) and the 2DS (unavailable in North America), this announcement reveals where the story will take place, on an island chain named Alola region (this game’s version of Hawaii). Players will be embarking upon an adventure being introduced by a male adult, named Kukui. He says, “Welcome to Paradise, Cousin.”

Immediately, I’m wondering how involved this person will be during the game?
