Marko Zaror may well be the next action hero if The Fist of the Condor is any sign. He exudes the intensity of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and when considering he’s done some of this wrestler’s stunts during his early career in Hollywood, I can see him going far on his own. This actor also knows taekwondo, judo, aikido, and shotokan karate. His skills as a mixed martial artist are perfectly highlighted in this Chilean film, and yes, I’m begging for more! Although the home video release’s behind the scenes feature doesn’t add to what’s planned to the future, what’s spotlighted is a nice look at the effort put to make this work more of a cinematic experience than anything else.

Some of the exotic locations are very basic, but as for lighting it, it’s nice to see that the team wanted to use as much natural resouces to light many shots instead of camera equipment. Thankfully the Asian flavour is not lost because the lead trained under many mentors from various countries.

Zoe Lister-Jones’ Slip is Sweetly Funny than Scary When Hungry Ghosts are Referenced

Despite the dimension hopping going on, trying to lay down evidence Slips through the cracks in this well meaning comedy.

Zoe Lister-Jones SLIP on ROKU ChannelNow Playing on Roku

Mae Cannon (Zoe Lister-Jones) is not happy, and she wishes for change. When her current marriage with Elijah (Whitmer Thomas) is devoid of romance, the world she Slip (without the s) into–which is also the title of this character-driven comedy–is different after each one-night stand.

In each episode, she Quantum Leaps into another version of herself. At first, she tries to figure out what’s going on, and although I disagree with her idea, my theory has better weight so she won’t fall down again. Unlike that NBC series, she has no mission to right a wrong, and the situation gets quirkier as she questions why this latest relationship matters. The story by Lister-Jones gets stranger, and it has to be binge-watched to appreciate the various character arcs going on.

The people Mae meets change each episode, and for the most part, the series considers what makes life worth living for than to stay dragged in the mud. This talent is also great at looking bewildered at the start of her next leap after she has an orgasm. Ultimately, she’ll have to decide if returning to her reality is worthwhile than sticking to the one she’s at.

Early Impressions – Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai and its Chinese Connection

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker design put behind Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai will no doubt have some fans of the film curious.

Gremlins Secrets of the Mogwai Promotional PosterComing to HBO Max on May 23

The teaser trailer to Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai is here, and what it sets up looks terrific! Not only will we look at Gizmo’s life prior to the films, but also we’ll get an origin story that looks at where they come from. Here, the ancient world of China comes alive through Sam Wing and this furry creature’s eyes. As for whether the fuzzball’s name remains the same in this prequel, I suspect not. The version we recall him as wasn’t given until the future.

The story is set in Shanghai in the 20s, and after discovering the “talking squirrel,” taking care of him won’t be easy. After a wealthy industrialist discovers the darker side of the rodent, the boy’s father says it’s best to take him home. The series will no doubt follow the youth’s journey into the countryside and as for whom he’ll meet, it’ll be a who’s who from Chinese folklore.
