Halloween is fast approaching and Victoria, British Columbia based Paper Street Theatre Company is hosting two scary themed events. In the month of October is an A Murder on Paper Street, an Improvised Agatha Christie — with plenty of mayhem to explore — and on December, it will be Zombies! For some folks, both seasons are the best time to tell spooky stories by the ebb of a misty night.

Nobody has to lose their candy or spill their cups of eggnog here, while cackling gleefully at what this team of performers — Dave Morris, Byron Kjeldsen, Missie Peters, Scott Thompson, Chris Gabel, Nicole Malcolm, Christina Patterson, Dominik Buconjic and Brooke Cameron — will offer on stage.

When Halloween is near, the only thing we have to fear is the cinematic products coming from Hollywood. Not every vision is slick and this year’s offerings feel slim. Of the five movies coming up, only one feels 100% appropriate (Insidious 3) for the season.

I can get more frights in the sequential art world. From this list, I find rereading them far more delightful and usually more frightful (in a good way).

Talking to Shanon Sinn on the writing of “The Haunting of Vancouver Island”

Summer is over, and people are planning their itineraries for the All Hallow’s Eve season. The Haunting of Vancouver Island by Shanon Sinn will be released on October 10th by TouchWood Editions and later in the month will be a presentation at Bolen Books. This collection of stories shows how some spooky legends persist year-round. If you are not careful when exploring those forbidden trails or handling forgotten relics unearthed while spelunking about, those spirits can get you! Well, that’s only if you are superstitious.

Sinn offers a grounded approach to understanding how the folklore developed. He is also out to bust some myths. That is, to distinguish fact from fiction and not be afraid to hurt some feelings along the way. He is a member of the British Columbia Ghosts & Hauntings Research Society (BCGHRS) and Paranormal Studies and Inquiries Canada (PSICAN) where using a realistic approach at examining the lore is paramount. Both value obtaining accurate information through library archive digging and talking to those who experienced a supernatural encounter first-hand. When he is not busy with work for these organizations, he maintains the Living Library website and is the author of Way of the Wraith, a work of paranormal fiction. This novel is of particular interest since he’s crafting short stories in this shared universe. He is currently in the Creative Writing & Journalism program at Vancouver Island University to further develop his skills. And with this background, he’s the perfect investigative reporter to delve into the mysteries on this island located West of Canada.

Eerie Ed’s Top 10 Must Watch Music Videos For Halloween

The music videos made in the past weren’t all designed or developed for the All Hallow’s Eve season. Some are just designed for horror film enthusiasts to enjoy and others can be listened to anytime. Some bands base their schtick around this genre, and immediately, I think of Zombina and the Skeletones. Sorry KISS, but you’re so last century. Gwar leads the pack and The Misfits follow behind.

When I want to get my spook on, I must admit I’m an 80’s child. While most of my picks come from that era, I do not think Michael Jackson’s Thriller is the best number one song representative of the season. I give that honour to his other work, Ghosts. The following is just a music video instead of the full-length production.

Stan Winston directed this work and it’s an extended music video which features three numbers instead of one. Some of the animation looks dated now, but back when it was first presented, I feel it’s a great piece to experience. It leads my list of videos as it is tailed for this All Hallow’s Eve season.

Silent Hill

Before this game even became a franchise, the original Silent Hill had you searching a small town of perpetual fog for your missing daughter. The mountain town of Silent Hill seems quiet, serene and surprisingly deserted. If you’re a fan of the recent television hit, Stranger Things, you couldn’t be blamed to think that Silent Hill was one of its inspirations.

Loving the LEGO Ninjago Early Halloween Treat, Day of the Departed — A Review

Fans of LEGO Ninjago living in Canada were treated to an early broadcast on Oct 26 of Day of the Departed on Teletoon.

Fans of LEGO Ninjago living in Canada were treated to an early broadcast on Oct 26 of Day of the Departed on Teletoon. The American broadcast is slated for October 29, and it will most likely be on Cartoon Network. This animation continues after the events of season six where Nya was meant to die (a plot point to recall) but due to a wish, the event was undone. A few months have passed and Sensei Wu, Cole, Jay, Kai, Zane and Nya honouring their fallen comrades and respected ancestors in this world’s version of Halloween.

Technically, the time spent feels very much like Chinese Ghost Month being compressed to a night. During this year’s celebration, the moon is going to eclipse and will take on the look of yin and yang. This omen can bring either good tidings or mourning for all of Ninjago.

In the spirit world, the enemies have gathered to talk about what they want to do to Cole and team. Revenge is on their mind and each of them wants to take their grievance upon their mutual rival who sent them to the Cursed Realm. For example, Wu and Morro have a sordid history together. Wu recruited him and when the young warrior was in training, he believed he would become the Green Ninja. As most viewers know, that honour went to another lad.
