Locke and Key is getting more than mainstream love.

IDW's "Welcome to Lovecraft" Locke and KeyMention Joe Hill, and most fans of his works will most likely think of NOS4A2. It premiered last year to critical acclaim, and to follow up on this tale of terror is the Lovecraftian inspired Locke and Key on Netflix!

The series follows the adventures of three siblings who, after finding their father killed, move home to live with their mother Nina (Frances O’Connor). They discover the ancestral home is special, and gives them powers though possession of magical keys. When a sinister evil wants those artifacts, just what dangers they face means staying ahead …

The Color or Colour Out of Space Continues to Hit Art Houses Worldwide

Image result for colour out of space 2019"Spoiler Alert

After watching the 2010 film Die Farbe (The Colour out of Space, using the UK Spelling) which adapts H.P. Lovecraft‘s cosmic tale of alien invasion many years ago, I had to wonder who else would take on the challenge of realizing this short story in feature length form. Richard Stanley is known for a few crazy works, and although credited for penning a revamp of The Island of Dr. Moreau (1996), he rarely strays far from his staples. This movie is his return to the director’s seat and made its debut at the Toronto International Film Festival 2019. Slowly but surely, the Colour has been landing at local art houses to spread the sickness.

A Cold, Terrible World is Hidden at the Mountains of Madness Vol 2 & What’s Next?

Gou Tanabe‘s adaptation of At the Mountains of Madness certainly delivers winter chills and shows this seemingly unadaptable work of HP Lovecraft can be tweaked for any cross media presentation. All it needs is some kind of resolution instead of a terrible revelation at the end.

Anyone who knows the original story will recall Danforth losing his sanity after seeing a Great Old One rise from the destruction. In what’s key to making that moment work is will this artist attempt to draw this cosmic entity? I won’t spoil what he sees. Instead, I can certainly say the city the Elder Things built may be gone for now, but I feel it also exists in an alternate dimension where Clive Barker’s most hailed creation (the Cenobites) lives!

Go Tanabe’s adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft‘s At The Mountains of Madness is the greatest thing since sliced bread. When considering not many attempts to convert this novella to a consumer-friendly form exists–be it a movie (a comic book and two radio plays were made in the past)–I believe the first half of the tale is not too difficult. Filmmakers or storytellers most likely may borrow from John Carpenter’s The Thing to set the tone. To make the remainder wholly different is where the challenge lays.

This artist is no stranger to this author’s work either. In 2017, Dark Horse Comics published his adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft’s The Hound And Other Stories TPB (Amazon LinkMountains of Madness).

Author Profile: Scotto Moore, The Next Rod Serling?

Mountains of MadnessBy Ed Sum
(The Vintage Tempest)

Scotto Moore is a playwright from Seattle, Washington bringing his style of the bizarre to the printed word. After being a singer at an early age and studying theatre in college, he blended the two in a bunch of works for the Annex. Locally, they were very well received and some of his works can be found online. This achievement made him seriously decide on what the next big step for his career should be.

After spending 15 years producing shows like H. P. Lovecraft: Stand-Up Comedian! (it’s available on YouTube) and offering web series like CHERUB: The Vampire With Bunny Slippers, to imprint his style to the masses, his book Your Favorite Band Cannot Save You is the next logical step. He favours writing science fiction, but in this recent work, it’s a blend of horror and heavy metal.

Cthulhu, Death May Die Crowdfunding Operation Exceeds Expectations!

Is it madness to want to own nearly every single Call of Cthulhu related gaming product that’s out there? I have six games in my slowly growing collection and this occult hobby makes for a terrific display for those miniatures based products. The first prints of H.P. Lovecraft‘s material can be a gold-mine when it comes to being collectable and valuable, and oddly enough, so can some of the role playing material. The board games are expensive in itself and that has not stopped me from helping crowdfund Cthulhu, Death May Die.

This board game is probably the most anticipated game for all Lovecraft fans to dive into and it has busted records for exceeding the goal within hours of going live. While it is too late to get the all-inclusive package (limits have been placed on production), the rest of community can still purchase the core product itself and order one or more of the bonus miniatures which make up the stretch goals.
