In The Witch House, Those Dreams Are Made to Tease

This modern take is simply titled The Witch House. With Lovecraft’s name attached to the title card, the story can’t be considered complete without mention of Keziah Mason.

H.P. Lovecraft's Witch House (2021) - IMDbComing to VOD on July 5, 2022

How many versions of H.P. Lovecraft’s The Dreams in the Witch House exist? We’ve seen countless iterations on film, music and stage, and there’s never been a definitive version. My favourite is the rock musical I reviewed five years ago

One reason filmmakers adore this work is because it can be reinterpreted. The tale explores what a human soul experiences while travelling between dimensions. That transcendental contact must be in the forefront, and that includes exploring one’s sexuality as this film does. Alice Gilman (Portia Chellelyn) gets her first lesbian romance, and she’s wanting.

This version by writers Bobby Easley (who also directs) and Ken Wallace could have played with this change. Sex magic is nothing new, and while Lovecraft would roll in his grave about this cultural taboo, modern paganism would welcome it. In what could be achieved from it ranges from achieving spiritual happiness to furthering one’s career.

Forgive Me Father, For Lovecraft Flows in My Veins…

The important thing to know about Forgive Me Father is that you have to look for the ‘secrets’ in order to survive the onslaught.

Available as Early Access on Steam

Forgive Me Father is a retro style shooter now available for fans of this style of gameplay to test out. Its has the look of those 2nd generation Doom games with a huge H.P. Lovecraft style narrative mixed in. The chaos that ensues and survivability depends on the player “going mad.” The more insane you are, the less damage you take from the invading hordes of zombies, shoggoths and the like. In the early part of the game, it’s mostly the former.

This game begins with you in what appears to be a haunted house. You’re trying to escape. The little story elements that’s embedded throughout reveals you’re somewhere in New England, near Providence, Rhode Island and there’s a cult at work. In the finalized version of the game, there’ll be two character archetypes players can play, a Priest or Reporter. The mystery is in why nearly everyone turned into zombies. Anything truly Lovecraftian won’t show up until the later levels and more of the tale unravels itself.

Reprinting H.P. Lovecraft’s Best as a Graphic Novel & Caliber Comics

Although I won’t buy every reprint Caliber Comics make, I was curious in what the difference is between editions.

HP LOVECRAFT DAGON TPCaliber Comics is reprinting their line of H.P. Lovecraft graphic novels and this run is nearly complete. Their previous collected volumes are still available to purchase, albeit in short supply, but when readers are only after specific adaptations, the following individual releases can be found on Amazon USA: The Lurking Fear, The Tomb, The Alchemist, Beyond The Wall of Sleep, Music of Erich Zann, Dagon, Arthur Jermyn and The Picture In The House.

The Statement of Randolph Carter is the last to not yet receive a new print run. Diamond Comics Distributors don’t keep enough stock so anyone ordering via their local comic store is out of luck. I tried. When I’m comparing editions, it seems Dagon is one volume that has two displaced pages, or should that be reorganized?

The Deep Ones with Chad Ferrin on H.P. Lovecraft and One Filmmaker’s Vision…

The Deep Ones Movie PosterPlease visit Facebook for their latest updates.
Coming to DVD, Digital, Video On Demand, and Redbox Kiosks on June 15

Chad Ferrin‘s The Deep Ones will soon get a limited theatrical release in the United States beginning April 23rd and for fans of H.P. Lovecraft, the themes this film dives into are faithful to the ideas this seminal author conceived long ago. But there are a lot more works which have can be seen in this film.

He grew up watching the classics–namely The Twilight Zone, Hitchcock Presents and The Outer Limits. and some of that style is visible in this b-film. But in order be able to make any film, he had to work hard to get where he’s at. Not only did it mean moving to Los Angeles, but also knowing the right people. Mike Leahy of Phantoms and Pulse fame gave him his break, and when the call came, he was ready! He started work as a production assistant in Back to Back with Michael Rooker and as also a body double.

I had to have a smile and be wide-eyed every day,” acknowledged Ferrin. His hands on experience in various departments would help him understand how a film comes together, and by the time he was ready to produce his own material and direct, he knew how to manage everything.

On the Finale of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Lovecraft & Its Future

The paintings Spellman is admiring may well be portals to potential ways can return for further Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.

The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina SPOILER ALERT

Netflix’s supernatural series concerning a certain teenage spell-caster has sadly ended. The past seasons had The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina dealing with a lot of issues not only about life as a half-witch, half-mortal but also with her role against adversaries far more experienced than her in matters of what exists in heaven, hell and in between!

The installation of cosmic horror–namely the works of H. P. Lovecraft–is very well done. Instead of directly referencing specific Elder Gods, the concepts of what they represent are given a fresh new spin. I had wondered just how the pagans from the previous season would summon them. I half expected grandiose incantations and a lamps exploding as they enter, but–because of budgetary concerns-the beings sulk into the narrative. They appear as humanoid forms and are simply known as “Terrors.”
