A Roundup of Pacific Northwest Pop Culture Conventions in 2023!

We present our rundown in what’s happening in our glorious list Pacific Northwest Pop Culture Conventions.

Pacific Northwest Pop Culture Conventions
Kevin Smith is expected to return to Fan Expo Vancouver. This talent made solo appearances, and  he’s promising to return with Jason Mewes.

The season is nearly upon us for an annual run of nearly nonstop Pacific Northwest Pop Culture Conventions! From Portland to Vancouver, and back across the border, the gambit is covered. Fan Expo is in the lead because this brand is occurring on the same weekend in two different cities, with a nearly similar guest lineup.

Repeat talents like Carl Weathers, Anson Mount and Ethan Peck from the latest Star Trek are but a sampling. If the organisers are smart, they should find someone to build a real life transporter to help them and Star Trek The Next Generation’s Gates McFadden, Jonathan Frakes and Brent Spiner avoid travel fatigue as they bounce from one show to the other. Or maybe a Floo Network from Harry Potter is needed, since Matthew Lewis is as a guest. Hyperspace travel isn’t real yet, because from Star Wars, Anthony Daniels is sure to be a hit with fans!

It’s safe to say cancellations will occur because with this many guests, something is bound to happen. This year, the organisers are really covering their bases rather than to depend on figuring out something last minute.

Emerald City Comic Con is Back to the Future!

(The Vintage Tempest)

After months of waiting, Emerald City Comic Con is making their huge guest announcements. The gang from Back to the Future is landing in Seattle, Washington! After a nearly steady tour at other shows, the wait for them to arrive in the Pacific Northwest is finally at an end. From the Silicon Valley Comic Convention to Fan Expo Toronto to Calgary, I had the feeling they will eventually hit either the Vancouver show, or Seattle.

If you’re like me, hoping for a commemorative tee, let’s hope the graphic design team will have an image of a DeLorean flying circles around the Needle. I’d get that signed and never worn!

Christopher Lloyd, Lea Thompson and Tom Wilson have visited the Emerald City before, but to see the entire gang together takes planning. Due to the health of Michael J. Fox, some cancellations did occur in the past and all we can do as fans is to wish him the best and hope nothing happens from this announcement to the night of the event.

New Gaki no Tsukai Batsu Special Photos Reveal Homage to ‘Back to the Future!’

nolaughscience3By James Robert Shaw (The Wind up Geek)

In the latest group of photos published by Oricon Style from the filming of Gaki no Tsukai’s No Laughing Science Laboratory batsu, one of those photos will be of interest to fans of the 1985 feature film Back to the Future starring Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd and Lea Thompson. With each batsu Hiroshi Fujiwara (藤原 寛), former manager of comedy team Downtown (Hitoshi Matsumoto and Masatoshi Hamada), appears in costume (sometimes dressed as a woman) and acts as guide for the five comics, Matsumoto, Hamada, Endō Shōzō, Tanaka Naoki and Hōsei Tsukitei.

SDCC’13: LEGO Back to the Future Flashback!

Yes, Doc Brown will be furious at my desire to bash toys up, but I do have a destructive tendency when it comes to certain LEGO builds. After all, rebuilding them is half the fun.

lego-back-to-the-future-deloreanAll I can say in response to LEGO’s release of the Back to the Future line of bricks is that, “This DeLorean can be rebuilt after being gleefully smashed.”

Before fans say sacrilege, this product is LEGO and the build looks relatively simple to assemble. But there is also another reason: it can be updated to look like the vehicle from the later movies, and each of them do have subtle differences.

Select retailers will receive this item on August 1st to sell for a MSRP of $34.99 and I am heavily considering to be waiting in line at my nearest Toys R’ Us to buy this kit. Even if this particular build looks small and the final product looks mediocre, it should be to scale for the awesome looking train.

I can not wait to get the Doc Brown’s homage to steam punk. Hopefully this locomotion will be set to sell later. It’s currently a LEGO Cuusoo concept/design. For people who do know what this group is, they produce community supported sets. All it takes are 1,000 ‘likes’ and it will be reviewed by the LEGO Group to be considered being made to an official LEGO product.
