Anime Evolution 2016: Tracey Moore Announced as First Guest

TraceyMooreAnime Evolution has announced Tracey Moore as their first guest for their 2016 convention. Moore has spent the last 30 years doing casting, voice directing and voice work for companies such as Nelvana Limited, Lacewood Productions and DiC Entertainment. Moore is known to many as Princess on My Pet Monster, Cheer Bear and Shreeky of the Care Bears, Emily from The Railway Dragon, and Princess Toadstool from The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 and The New Super Mario World. For the recent generations of children, Moore has come to be known as Warbeak from Redwall, Geek from Sam and Max: Freelance Police, George Shrinks and as the singing voice of Strawberry Shortcake.

Anime Evolution takes place August 19 – 21, 2016 at the Sheraton Wall Centre in Vancouver, British Columbia. You can purchase tickets to this event through Anime Evolution’s official website by clicking here.

Wind up Geek’s Cool Japan: Macross 7 Mylene’s Birthday Party

FireBomberIn Tokyo on Saturday night (January 30th), a party was held to celebrate the birthday of Mylene Flare Jenius, the bassist and backing singer for the band Fire Bomber from Macross 7. Attending this event was none other than Mica Okudoi and Tsutomu Takayama (Hibiki Kanzaki of Super Dimensional Fortress Macross II: Lovers Again). The lucky person who took these photos (Gwyn Campbell) had a front row ticket, and I agree with one of the Macross Fans- US members when he said Mylene’s outfit is not designed to be worn by a full-grown woman. But seriously, I’m sure it wouldn’t bother the male otakus that much.

Japanese Seiyuu Matsuki Miyu Dies Age 38

MatsukiMiyuJapanese seiyuu (voice actress) and singer Matsuki Miyu passed away at the age of 38 on Tuesday, October 27th. Her talent agency 81 Produce confirmed her death on Monday, November 2nd Japan time. A closed funeral for relatives only was held for Matsuki. The agency did not specify her illness.

Matsuki announced on her blog on July 14th that she was taking a break from work after being diagnosed at a hospital with acute pneumonia. She said she had been suffering from a fever earlier in the year and that it wouldn’t go away on it’s own. Matsuki assured her fans she would return to work and apologized to everyone for the inconvience. Wrote Matsuki “きっと、戻ってきます！” (I’m sure I’ll be back!).

Matsuki’s recent role was as Anna Nishikinomiya on SHIMONETA: A Boring World Where the Concept of Dirty Jokes Doesn’t Exist (2015). Her previous roles include Isumi Saginomiya in Hayate the Combat Butler (2007), Shinosaka Yuko in the OAV series True Love Story (2003), Hitomi Onodera in Seven of Seven (2002), and Lailah in the console game PS3’s Tales of Zestria.

Tsukino-Con Day 2: Panels, Panels and More Panels

TsukinoDay22I had a late start on the second day for Tsukino-Con. I had what is known among us older con-goers as the con hangover. That is when a man like me stays up too late, drinks little water eats even less and wakes up with one huge hangover. It’s not a pretty sight and it made me realize I can’t pull it off like I did way back in 1995, at Anime Expo.

The second day appeared to be the most active of the con fan-wise. Many people were out in droves wearing a wide variety of costumes. They came dressed as Dorothy Gale from The Wizard of Oz, Daenerys Targaryen from Game of Thrones and also as members of the Attack on Titan recon team (the most popular cosplay at Tsukino-Con this year).

Tsukino-Con Day One: Cosplayers & Smiling Artists

Tsukino2I’ve always wanted to attend Tsukino-Con but the attitude among my friends were that of disdain. They believed Tsukino was a cosplay event directed at pre-teens and teens than adults who some consider the “real fans.”

I had listened to them for years but secretly I yearned to be among the people who had the same interests as I did. I couldn’t afford to travel to the big cons like Dragon Con or Anime Expo (again), and Tsukino is closer and cheaper. GottaCon is mostly for gamers but I’m an anime fan at heart.
