Christmas Time is Here with WARPs Up SANTA Connection

Even though we’re on break, articles are planned and are being authored. They will appear in the New Year.

To get into the festive mood, we do have two shout-outs to fans of WARPs UP word-wide.

Japanese-Chinese male dance collective WARPs UP released a new music video for their track ‘Cloud 9’ on YouTube today, December 24, 2020. Following the release of ‘Hali Gali’ in November, WARPs UP collaborated on ‘Cloud 9’ with producer/songwriter team Tony Esterly and Paige Blue, whose past hits include ‘Satisfied’ by Sia and several tracks for BTS.

The group includes two members from Japan and two from China. In addition to RIKIMARU, the Japan side also features SANTA, a top-level dancer who has earned the title of World Champion at a world-renowned dance battle. Meanwhile, Chinese members MINGJUN and LANBYI gained performing experience as trained idols in China.

On Dec 25th, FEMM’s Holiday Gift to Fans Worldwide is…

FEMM — JpopRocks Looking for a Japanese way to take on Christmas Day? Electronic dance duo FEMM has a suggestion! These two gals performance art approach is unique. They pretend to be mannequins coming to life, and their costumes spotlight the latest in fashion. Nothing going to stop them from touring as they have fans worldwide. In the meantime, they have something to offer in the digital realm.

Fresh off the release of their new hyper-pop EP ‘404 Not Found’ last month, this group announced ‘Tic Toc’ will chime in the holiday December 25! (JST). This new track was teased at on their social media accounts. A short clip can be seen on YouTube (see below), and more details are to come.

Get “Hali Gali” with WARPs UP latest music video!

WARPs UP, a four-piece dance group with members from Japan and China and fans in both territories, have announced their latest song, ‘Hali Gali’, which is now on YouTube and as a limited release in China.

The music video for ‘Hali Gali’ is directed by filmmaker Kenichiro Shimizu (PELE) and Tokyo-based creative group REALROCKDESIGN, which also produces large-scale outdoor festivals and sensory entertainment show STAR ISLAND. Shimizu, working with Daito Manabe (Rhizomatiks), was the videographer and editorial director on British artist Squarepusher’s ‘Terminal Slam’ video. His works have garnered acclaim for their innovation and creativity, with ‘Terminal Slam’ receiving the Computer Animation Category Honor Award at Austria’s Ars Electronica Award 2020.

Call of Duty Mobile gets BiSH’d! and where to find the Music Video

BiSH (ビッシュ) is a punk band without musical instruments. They recently released a new digital single ‘STORY OF DUTY’ that ties-in with the globally popular FPS game ‘Call of Duty: Mobile’. This song was written by Aina The End and is available on all major streaming service such as Spotify and iTunes.

Vicke Blanka and Taiiku Okazaki have teamed up for Bakashi Hour Night! This highly danceable track has a lot to like. It speaks of friendship, music and retro gaming. The collaboration should be of no surprise when these two J-pop stars are in fact buddies in real life and their love is recorded to all to see. The music video is now available to watch online and stream.

The Japanese word ‘bakashi’ means ‘bewitching’ or ‘enchanting’, ‘BAKASHI HOUR NIGHT’ is a song about friends hanging out together and wistfully longing to “mess around together for decades”. The music was composed and arranged by Vicke Blanka, and the lyrics were co-written by both Vicke Blanka and Okazaki.

Doing More than Scratching Planet Wax in this Review

Planet Wax has made me think it’s time to put together a playlist based on the songs actually mentioned. It’s a terrific callback to all the tunes I enjoyed listening to, including a few that I haven’t considered.

Music editors Aaron Lupton and Jeff Szpirglas are back with Planet Wax, and they are blasting off again with a nostalgic look at more iconic movie scores from the past. This time, they are looking at the many soundtrack albums which defined last century’s best genre films, and there’s some obscure titles which I wasn’t aware of.

The focus on sci-fi and fantasy defines this release. Like this team’s prior work, Blood on Black Wax: Horror Soundtracks on Vinyl, and there’s no need to reprint entries. Overlap is inevitable, and it’s tough to find something new to say about specific albums. Phantom of the Paradise and Rocky Horror are analyzed to death, and I’m okay with them not being included here. They are considered more “horror” than “sci-fi” even though some people will argue over which genres the Picture Show fits under.
