13 Fun Horror Musicals to Mortify With During Any Halloween!

Although the number of products can fit into the palm of Frankenstein’s hand, this list of horror musicals is being expanded out to include television products that are worth rocking out to.

Every Halloween, only one seminal rock n’ roll musical comes to mind to celebrate the occasion by doing the time warp with. Yes, people can head to Rocky Horror, but there’s a reasonable gambit of other horror musicals to discover. They range from screen to stage. Some are worth making the effort to seek out, and others are best regulated to the graveyard.

Although the number of products can fit into the palm of Frankenstein’s hand, this list of horror musicals is being expanded out to include television products that are worth rocking out to. The importance here is to reveal what’s fun! Rocky Horror does belong in this list, and a few items are grouped into one entry, but the goal here is to look at what else is available.

[Vancouver, BC] A Queen Fan’s Odyssey

I could have gone to see Queen with Paul Rodgers back in 2005/6, but I honestly did not like this pairing. If I did go, I would have been disappointed. My impression of the Youtube videos of this pairing were not positive, and the reviews I read supported my thoughts. To leave the island must mean I really must love the band to death in order to hear their music live and unfiltered. They had to represent my youth. Back then, there were only two bands I took an immediate liking to: Queen and KISS.

Ever since I heard about Adam Lambert taking on the mantle, I wondered: could he? I avoided watching American Idol but when I heard about Queen and KISS appearing, I could not resist. I saw that Lambert has the stage presence needed to pull off being there with the greats.

Flash forward to now, he’s come a long way to be there in a big venue concert. To see Brian May, Roger Taylor and their support crew of Rufus Tiger Taylor, Neil Fairclough and Spike Edney is finally a completion of a quest. To see them play with Lambert may well be like discovering a Holy Grail that can bridge generations together on stage. At this Vancouver, B.C., concert or anywhere else, travelling afar to experience this special kind of magic is well worth it.

Cobra Can’t Shoot But They Sure Can Rap!

Ever heard of Wordburglar? Well you should. Or at least all of Geek society will now after watching this cool music video dedicated to the big boys in blue, Cobra. Sure this evil organization had some rough times against G.I. Joe led by Michael Bell (Duke) in the original animated series, or by a muscle bound Dwayne Johnson (Roadblock) in G.I. Joe: Retaliation, but you can bet your Mauler tank they know how to unwind.

If you listen carefully to the lyrics you’ll notice much of Wordburglar’s influence for this song came not from the Sunbow animated series but from Marvel Comics’ original 155 issue run (1982 – 1994).

Wordburglar is a Canadian rapper out of Halifax, Nova Scotia which has previously given to the world another rap artist called Classified. Classified’s hits include 5th Element and No Mistakes.

[Victoria, BC] Rocky Horror Show: Its Good To Relieve a Little … Tension

Kaleidoscope Theatre lets it all hang out as sexual promiscuity mixes with fetishes, classic Hollywood horror and a little alien fun. With Rocky Horror Show — a benefit performance in support of continuing this groups effort to bring the Arts to the youths of Victoria — lines are blurred between hero and villain. And perhaps we are all just people wanting to be understood.

The Rocky Horror original stage show saw success at London’s Royal Court Theatre before going on to greater success in the United States, thanks in part to producer Lou Adler. With UK show director Jim Sharman and original star Tim Curry as Frank N’ Furter (later replaced by Paul Jabara) transferred to the US, the rest of the cast was filled with Hollywood and Broadway performers. Pre-Bat Out of Hell Meat Loaf would play the roles of both Eddie and Dr. Scott.

Ultraman Ginga Music Sample

Although a Japanese creation, Ultraman has been influential internationally in geek culture.

Through NihonHero we have sampled the theme song for the upcoming Ultraman Ginga TV series. The song is titled “Theme of Ultraman Ginga” and is performed by Yuji Inoue, guitarist of the J-pop group Girl Next Door.

Ultraman Ginga is produced by Tsuburaya Productions who are celebrating their 50th anniversary in 2013. The series will premiere in Japan on July 10, 2013. The album to the series will be released July 24, 2013.

The series stars Takuya Negishi, Mio Miyatake, Mizuki Ohno, Kirara Asuka and Takuya Kusakawa.
