DC’s Legends of Tomorrow Certainly Gets “Legendary” & Theories for This Series’ Future

*Spoiler Alert!

The Thanagarian threat will not arrive in DC’s Legends of Tomorrow for some time. With an exit and fitting finale for the storyline between Chay-ara, Khufu and Hath-Set (i.e. Kendra, Carter and Vandal in their current incarnations), one fight has been put to rest in this week’s season one finale, “Legendary.” Another danger is coming, but as for who that is (apparently this new villain makes Savage’s megalomania tame in comparison), that depends on how well viewers know their DC Comic’s lore. A member from The Justice Society of America, the precursor to the Justice League, pay a visit to set up the next season.

In an episode which borrows a few ideas from Star Trek: The Next Generation’s “All Good Things…,” namely in having to solve a problem (more like a fight) that takes place in three different eras. To put a stop to a bomb that can destroy all of time requires facing it past, present and future. In what Savage adds to the fact, three meteorites came crashing upon ancient Egypt to impart its magic of ressurrction/immortality to certain individuals nearbg. As I suspected, they were sent in advance by the Thanagarians to this planet, but for what purpose? Dr Stein calculates the proximity of the two planets being close occurs irregularly and this alignment is important to cause interstellar destruction (just how mathematics can do that, this bit of astrophysics needs Stephan Hawking to help explain). Just why this detail is important does not get the decent explanation that’s needed until Savage says he wants Earth’s time-space to revert back to Egypt, the Middle Kingdom 1700 BC so he can be pharaoh and have Chay-ara turned into his consort. He’s quite simple minded, wanting to rule a dynasty instead of a galaxy. Perhaps he just wants to start small?

Ranking the Video Game Movies of 2016

By Ed Sum (The Vintage Tempest)

So far, this year’s crop of movies inspired by video games is not making the grade. With two films out and at least three more due this year, I’m ranking the remaining couple by order of appeal and anticipation. After a lull in the previous years for the number of properties being turned into a film, I have to wonder what makes this year special. Another title, concerning a gentleman thief in an anthropomorphic world was slated for this year, but I’m dubious that it will come out in time before the year is over. I list this “Sly” film anyways, in hopes it comes out in time.

Will these features be good? Hard to say, since half the time these movies are made, it’s mostly to reignite a dying franchise. Just how Angry birds manages to stay on top after eight years is amazing. Rovio Entertainment must be making pigs fly to keep their flagship product alive. I’ve played the game and enjoyed it, but the novelty has died for me after their take on Star Wars in 2012. Kudos goes to the company for making a very addictive game (for some), and it just makes a glancing blow in making my top three of the movies I want to see.

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter
Release Date: September 2, 2016

After five films, this zombie-fighting franchise still shows it’s tough to put down the undead. Milla Jovovich looks great as always, and although the title implies an ending to the saga, to see how the Umbrella Corporation finally gets put down makes this film the number one product to check out. I’m just hoping the studio doesn’t do the no-brainer idea and simply reboot it with a new leading lady.

The Second Ghostbusters 2016 is a Slight Improvement!

PHCyGWbP0engFK_2_lBy Ed Sum (The Vintage Tempest)

I must admit, this second trailer is far better for enticing me to check out Paul Feig‘s reboot. My reason to see this film is to find out if Kevin (Chris Hemsworth) succeeds at becoming a Ghostbuster. I haven’t watched this actor’s other works where he’s working on honing his comedic chops, but to see him dressed up as a nerd is appealing. To see him, as this trailer reveals, turn sinister and ride off somewhere to take on a potentially villainous role … Well, I’m sold! This actor has played more charming roles, and to see him as menacing as Vigo the Carpathian has me curious.

Even if he succeeds at being exorcised or he has a bigger role in the film than previously led on, I wonder if he will equalize the status quo of an all-female paranormal team. Since the animated version had Janine Melnitz as a Ghostbuster to bail the guys out, I have no problems with any role-reversal going on. Fans owning the box set of this great animated series can check her out in “Mr. Sandman, Dream Me A Dream,” “Janine Melnitz, Ghostbuster,” and “Jailbusters.” In the Extreme series, she put on the uniform again, as I recall. I’d love to see a nod to the animated series approach to accepting new members, although I doubt the writers of this film even bothered to look at the past material.

In Memoriam of Actor Michael Roberds, The New Addams Family’s Uncle Fester

Michael_RoberdsBy Otaku no Culture

Michael Roberds, best known for his role of Uncle Fester in the Canadian television series The New Addams Family, passed away Sunday evening. For those who knew him, it was too soon. He was 52.

The actor-writer’s death was confirmed by Debbie Mahood, Talent Manager at Lucas Talent Inc. “It is with incredible sadness that I announce the passing [of] my client and friend, Michael Roberds. He loved to entertain his neighbours by reading them jokes at parties. Michael was a gentle soul and will be missed by all he touched.”

Born in Langley, British Columbia, Roberds started his acting career at the young age of 5. He played Big Bird in a school production of “Christmas on Sesame Street.”

His continued work on stage would bring him to White Rock where he involved himself with amateur theatre and joined the comedy troupe Almost Midnight.

To follow the latest talk about this continuation of Transformers Prime, please visit tfw2005.com’s message boards.

Transformers Prime Galvatron's Revenge Teaser Movie PosterAlthough Transformers Prime: Galvatron’s Revenge is a failed Kickstarter project from 2015, props has to go to the team still working on bringing this fan film to life. They are making it as a labour of love. On TFW2005’s message boards, the hope is to bring this one-off movie in 2017. The modelling for all the main characters are done, test animations made and render of the introduction sequence posted on YouTube (see below). What’s presented feels more like 1.5

The pacing follows in the style created in the original product, and all it needs is further finessing. Add some more phong shading, patina and some battle scars to these mechs, and this product can roll out.

Dwayne Johnson is Doc Savage: The Man of Bronze!

With Black’s Predator sequel set to start production in the fourth quarter of this year, Doc Savage’s filming begins shortly after Predator warps-up.

DwayneJohnsonPublicityThis has been brewing for some time but people knew it had to happen eventually. With Dwayne Johnson‘s love for superheros, it makes sense that he would wish to star in Doc Savage since he is already set to star in a film of a hero as equally recognizable, Shazam. Shane Black, who wrote and directed Iron Man 3, will be performing the same duties with Doc Savage. Filming is set to begin sometime in 2017. Originally Black expressed interest in Chris Hemsworth of Marvel’s Thor but whether or not Hemsworth turned down the role or Black shelved the idea, that hasn’t stopped Black from telling media that Dwayne Johnson is the man for the job. Johnson with his chiseled good looks, defined physique, and incredible on-screen charisma would be fitting to play the Man of Bronze. And now it appears this is happening. Johnson has all but officially confirmed his role. Johnson has been one to allow his fans a peek at the behind-the-scenes of his films before and why would this nod to Doc Savage be any different. Johnson revealed via his Instagram account:
