Animation Voice Over Facility, Go Studios, Ransacked by Thieves

A Vancouver studio has been ransacked with more than $100,000 in production equipment taken from the premises. It seemed like an almost perfect job but what the thieves didn’t realize is their profiles were caught on camera on two different occasions. The break-in happened at Go Studios‘ East 3rd Avenue location on Thursday morning, August 4th between the hours of 6 and 7am. The two male suspects were clever with the cameras they did see but were still caught unawares by the cameras they didn’t. The cameras monitored the suspects as they went from room to room of the facility that houses casting and voice over studios. At one point one of the suspects used a 42-inch TV as a battering ram to try to gain access to other rooms that were locked. Among the items the suspects made off with were six televisions, fours computers, and hard drives.

“Transformers: Last Knight” Reveal Autobot Sqweeks’ Robot Mode & Bio

The official Transformers movie Facebook site revealed the look and bios of both Autobots Drift and Hot Rod within the last 48 hours. Now, they have revealed the look of Autobot Sqweeks. I’ve been saying the initial photo of Sqweeks, that looks like a cross between M.A.S.K.‘s T-Bob and Challenge of the Gobots‘ Guardian good guy robot, Scooter. But never did I expect anything like this.

Hate it? No. I love the design. The look of Sqweeks is very future dystopian. I can imagine him in a story where humans rely on robots but what is built is scrounged from scrap yards, much like in Yukito Kishiro’s Battle Angel Alita manga series. A Fantastic Slug-Fest is Coming in Predator vs Judge Dredd vs Aliens Starting Next Month! A Review

With the chilling words from a mutant from the Judge Dredd universe registering the imminent, “With the right DNA, Doctor Reinstöt can do almost anything,” I’m immediately captivated. This mad scientist recognizes the possibilities when playing god, and yes, he’s going to make an all-new Modern Prometheus if I’m correctly reading in-between the lines.

Predator vs Judge Dredd vs Aliens is coming July 27th by Dark Horse Comics. If only I had a time machine to leap ahead so I can grab each issue right away, then I would know if my assumption is right or not. This epic story is written by Eisner Award–winning writer John Layman and wonderfully constructed by artist Chris Mooneyham. To add to this comic’s allure is the subtle film-like textures in the backgrounds by colourist Michael Atiyeh. If the fabulous covers drawn by Glenn Fabry are not enough to grab people’s attention at the comic book store, well… The way this team has worked together to make this comic a fun read can be felt on every page. Dredd is always moody (he has to be), and in what I appreciated looking at is in how easy this tale is to read.

While out in the Atomic Wasteland of Cursed Earth, this cop is searching for Archbishop Emoji. He does not realize a member of the Yautja is prowling about and when he does, I can not wait to see how he will react! That will not happen until issue two. In this multi-crossover debut, this Predator is not the hunter. He is prey, and the good doctor’s minions caught him ill-prepared; the targets he is after are perhaps even more resourceful. When these mutants stumble upon his ship and have found a certain “Alien” skull, that’s going to be trouble.

Putting the Divergent series IMAX promotions together; It Doesn’t Quite Gel.

With the Divergent series coming to an end soon (there’s one more film set for next year) and all three IMAX exclusive posters available, the artists behind the promotion had an idea going, but sadly not all concepts come together perfectly. Presented for image collectors is all three posters since the inception of this program. The first two prints for Divergent and Insurgent at least had a similar colour scheme. The third one is tonally different, and who knows what the fourth will look like.

From this promotional program’s 12:01 days to FanFix, sadly not all prints are created alike. The second image for the Insurgent film was printed on lighter paper, when compared to the first. The third, no announcement has been officially made as to which theatres will be participating in this promotion. As news become available, Otakunoculture will update if at all possible.

Comparing Apples to Oranges: Games Without Frontiers 2.0 and LANtasy 2016

I’m sure these mutual events can spread the love. At GWoF, Giroux talked all about e-sports, the world of competitive gaming, for the entire afternoon and Lantasy was more of a broad spectrum gaming event held under one roof.

Two electronic gaming-centric events were held in Victoria, BC on the same weekend on March 12, and that can make for some hard decisions for people wondering which one of the two is the show to attend. Fortunately, Games Without Frontiers (GWoF) at University of Victoria’s IdeaFest has no relation to Peter Gabriel‘s song, otherwise there might have been some conflict. Instead, I had to make a tough call. The one on campus was closer to get to and it had an educational appeal that tickled my fancy. LANtasy at Pearkes Recreation Centre was further away and it had a communal appeal. Ultimately, I managed to hit both. Each had a specific audience they wanted to reach out to and it is not fair to say which is better. It’s easier to reveal what each 2016 event offered.

GWoF’s goal is to look at what gaming encompasses from an academic point of view. The panels I attended were informational and afterwards, I could talk to the guest speakers about their work.

Here, I saw youths having fun playing MineCraft. LANtasy saw some children appearing, but there was little they could play. Sure, there were two arcade consoles, but those games were of the violent variety. From what I heard, they took to the Victoria LEGO User’s Group (VicLUG) and Commodore 64 Enthusiasts of Greater Victoria for their entertainment quicker than the roll of a die.

In what I witnessed at UVic is a simple show. Attendance numbered roughly 250 during the time I was there after lunch. I explored MacLauren Building’s A and D wings, looking for where the fun was at. As GWoF grows (this is their second year), so will their numbers. I like this event for the reason it brings local video game companies, artists, professors, grad students, undergrads and youths together to look at where technology is going in both the video game, artistic and virtual world. Together, they make up what we as consumers enjoy in a game product.

D23 Reveals Star Wars-Themed Land

Chairman and Disney CEO Bob Iger announced earlier today at the Disney Expo that Disney will be building a 14-acre space dedicated to the Star Wars licensing. The new attraction will be found at both Disney’s Orlando, Florida and Anaheim, California theme parks.

Both additions will allow fans to be immersed in a whole planet populated by droids, humanoids and aliens. Visitors will be able to see a life-sized Millennium Falcon and the Mos Eisley Cantina. Each store and restaurant in the Star Wars land
