When There’s Nothing Too New in Entertainment for Hungry Ghost Festival 2024, What Else Is There to Watch?

Although there was never a huge demand for entertainment to enjoy during Hungry Ghost Festival, perhaps that’s best since the time should be spent honouring those whose have passed on by visiting their grave and giving their spirit a chance to smile.

Hungry Ghost Festival in Hong Kong — **Hungry Ghost Festival Starts on Aug 18 and runs until Sept 2, 2024**

The Hungry Ghost Festival is looking worse for wear in recent years, because sometimes I just want to see new content over repeating what I’ve said in the past. While some new material exists, I don’t recommend one of them.

The documentary, Island of Hungry Ghosts, is depressing because it’s about one particular refugee camp built on Christmas Island. Rumours say that many Chinese spirits roam the land in search of a place called home in this very remote community. When they weren’t given last sites, this work is a moving piece to follow. I understand the symbology concerning the crab migration that also happens, but this work won’t be for everyone.

Defrosting The Difference In Ghostbusters Frozen Empire 4k and Blu-ray Release

it’s safe to say when these new films wraps up its trilogy or tetralogy, Ghostbusters Frozen Empire may well be the starting point for spinoffs.

Ghostbusters Frozen Empire Sets — Now available to purchase on Amazon USA and other outlets.

Ghostbusters mania is back again, and with the home video release of Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, Sony Entertainment isn’t offering a brand-new collector’s collection this time ’round. I’m not sure if I want to get another Ultimate Collection, but the limited edition set was tempting. But an ice cube maker isn’t enough.

It’s tough to top the box set created to resemble a ghost trap; to offer space for this disc would have been great. All anyone has to do is to take out the booklet, but is that breaking things up?

Megaghost is Set to Rematerialize in 2025!

Just whether or not MegaGhost ever existed as a cartoon doesn’t matter as Dark Horse Comics have a trade paperback collecting this comic book series next year!

In Ghost Keeper, You Are The Lord and Master Everyone Needs To Be Afraid Of!

It’s rare to offer a videogame where you can be the bad guy, and Ghost Keeper is perfect to be that creature to rule them all!

Ghost Keeper Title Card Although I was not aware of the video game, Ghost Master, back when it was released back in 2003, to wait more than twenty years for a sequel feels unusual. BLUM Entertainment and Quest Craft‘s upcoming Ghost Keeper looks better than the original (after looking at YouTube gameplays), and the fact it’s set in 19th-century Victorian England is one way to catch my interest! I also get the feeling it’s also vibing on the tropes Disney’s Haunted Mansion made famous.

Here, the idea is to play the role of a mighty leader of the unknown. Players get to order spirits around and hopefully scare the bejesus out of those humans who’ve decided to make the mansion you control their home. The problem is that a few of them know a thing or two about the occult, and there’s even what looks like a ghostbuster who can ruin a player’s day.

I rather like the idea to play the role of the “bad guy,” and in this sim, the question of whether other ghosts will obey is a story I always wanted to see happen. There’s been variations of this idea in cinema, but it hasn’t been explored very well or hasn’t come across my radar just yet.

When A Late Night With the Devil Leads to Disastrous Consequences…

The problem with Late Night with the Devil is that it left me bored. I was able to go to sleep afterwards, dreaming of communicating with the unholy and asking if they can do me a favour….

The difference between Late Night with the Devil and Ghostwatch is that the former film hides Jack Delroy’s (David Dastmalchia) past from viewers to later be shocked by. Although both concerns live coverage about why a young teenage girl is haunted, and as for who controls whom, that depends on who is her keeper. Also, the question of broadcasting this look into what goes bump in the night may cause more harm than good. What’s being played out is like That’s Incredible! I had that reality TV show and Johnny Carson in the back of my mind while watching this film.

While this latest effort is firmly rooted into recreating the look of the 70s, it rarely delved into why this era was ripe for events to happen like the Satanic panic. There are quick references to certain trends–namely the influence of The Exorcist and The Omen–and without that added gravitas, this film doesn’t stick out like a sore thumb. Without these particular references, I thought Cameron and Colin Cairnes‘ movie didn’t fully hit its mark. I’d give this film a low grade more than anything else. The British film really does it better, because it keeps you invested through various characters, especially Craig Charles!

Exhuma. Lest We Forget, or Forgive. Can The Spirit of Korea Recover?

Before Korea was divided into two nations, there was a time when everyone fought for the same thing and what Exhuma examines is a mix of horror and history.

Exhuma (파묘) is one of those rare gems which mixes in folk horror with history, and what’s exhumed for audiences to worry about concerns a terror that must be put back in its place, lest more innocent souls get destroyed. In this film’s case, there’s also a sense of unearthing tensions its citizens had when concerning their relation with the Japanese.

Some ancient spirit hates the Ji-young family, and Park (Kim Jae-cheol) hopes to end the curse once and for all. He hires a locally renowned occultist Hwa-rim (Kim Go-eun) and Bong-gil (Lee Do-hyun) to basically do some ghostbusting. Unlike other works which are steeped in made up lore, this one is steeped in animism and folklore. It gives this film an air of credibility where even I felt at ease. Although the later act gets fanciful, the nuances still make me think twice when disturbing a grave a night!
