There is a call-out by JHouse-Rock Entertainment for models who want to be a part of a fashion show at this year’s anime and cosplay convention, Sakura-Con. The purpose of the show is to present the latest fashions from Japan by designer Takeshi Kunitomo of Gouk. Sakura-Con runs March 25-27, 2016 at the Washington State Convention Center in Seattle. Takeshi Kunitomo himself will be in attendance at this event. Submissions must be made no later than March 1, 2016. To learn more visit JHouse-Rock Entertainment’s official wesbite here.

In Tokyo on Saturday night (January 30th), a party was held to celebrate the birthday of Mylene Flare Jenius, the bassist and backing singer for the band Fire Bomber from Macross 7. Attending this event was none other than Mica Okudoi and Tsutomu Takayama (Hibiki Kanzaki of Super Dimensional Fortress Macross II: Lovers Again). The lucky person who took these photos (Gwyn Campbell) had a front row ticket, and I agree with one of the Macross Fans- US members when he said Mylene’s outfit is not designed to be worn by a full-grown woman. But seriously, I’m sure it wouldn’t bother the male otakus that much.
Victoria’s local anime and cosplay convention has managed to obtain a Japanese idol for their guest list. Tsukino-Con announced on their official Facebook page that voice actor-singer Kensho Ono will be attending their event.
The Japanese application company LINE, a subsidiary of Naver Corporation has released a set of Akira chat stickers based on Katsuhiro Otomo’s 1988 film of the same name. The stickers are licensed through Bandai Namco Entertainment Inc, display many of the characters from the film including Shōtarō Kaneda (Japanese seiyū: Mitsuo Iwata) and Tetsuo Shima (Nozomu Sasaki).
If you live in Japan or are knowledgable on Japanese holidays, you’ll know they celebrated recently their annual coming of age day. It’s a day where boys and girls who reach the age of 20 between April 2 of the previous year and April 1 of the new year are official recognized for becoming adults. Local ceremonies are held, gifts are given and parties are had for women dressed in furisodes and men dressed in hakamas or suits. Pikachu himself joins this groups as he like the licensing he represents turns 20 years.
