The Next IMAX FANFIX poster will be for Pacific Rim!

Collectors of IMAX FANFIX mini posters now have Pacific Rim added to the collection.

Pacific-Rim-Imax The next IMAX FANFIX print to be released will be for the first screenings of Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim on July 12. And “conscripted” to create this second item of collectible posters is artist Sergio Grisanti. This artist is known for creating the Jaeger posters/card art used at WonderCon. Also, he’s done illustrative work for The Dark Knight Rises and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.

The digital image may not do the real item justice. There has to be something unique to make this second print release under the FANFIX banner special. Hopefully the poster is large enough to show a sense of the scale, or destruction being wrought as mech and beast face off in comic-book style explosion of wood and rubble. Del Toro had no set ideas in mind when giving the artist some parameters to work by.

When Space Battleship Yamato Becomes Live Action

Long time viewers of SF may want to say Yamato set the bar for future science-fiction products to come.

Long time fans of the animated television series Space Battleship Yamato will be familiar with both versions, the english dub (Star Blazers) and the Japanese original. When seen side-by-side, the differences can be found. And the script revisions helped make this saga successful for Western audiences. The films that followed afterwards began as a compressed versions of the series until Yamato: New Voyage (1979) was made.

As a space opera, the drama between various characters made this series a compelling watch. To see them lose loved ones to war and face insurmountable challenges made for a very different type of 70’s cartoon. A few sacrifices were even made along the way for those who have seen the original Japanese version. Not many animations from that decade had internal monologues to tell viewers what each character was thinking of. Even the next imported saga, which was dubbed Robotech, took a few cues from this series. Without the seminal flagship, Macross wouldn’t have been what it is today. Even Irresponsible Captain Tylor takes on a few passing characteristics when it concerns two sake guzzling physicians who have a pet cat (by the second series).

Finding a Place to Belong at Monsters University

As a prequel, this film makes for the perfect lead-in to Monsters Inc., but as a standalone product, there’s not much to this film that simply explains how one big eye surrounded by a mound of green flesh and a fluffy blue bear has become bosom buddies.

Monsters_University_poster_3 Expectations were low for some long-time PIXAR fans going in to see Monsters University. In fact, they were smaller than the green imp, Mike Wazowski (Billy Crystal). He has these grand ambitions to be a Scare-a-lot even though he is better suited to be Care Bears material. The joke is on him when he finally arrives at the prestigious Monsters University. He is there to learn how to be scary and that is one tall order for the most tamest beast to grace this monster-verse.

Even James Sullivan (John Goodman) is more about fluff than flights of fancy as he tries to buffoon his way through college life.

Transformers Prime Movie Confirmed!

Good news for fans of Transformers: Prime! It’s concluding with a movie.

The Hub network has confirmed a few days ago that Transformers: Prime will conclude with a 90-min movie. Very little detail was given in the press release, other than saying this production will serve as an “epilogue.” The war may not necessarily end, but apparently the fate of Cybertron will be revealed.

No date was announced, but presumably this film will air in the Fall of 2013.

The eagerly anticipated conclusion of the CG animated Daytime Emmy® Award winning series will make its network television premiere as a Hub Original Family Movie. A 90-minute epilogue to the final season wraps up the series that chronicles the epic battle between the Decepticons and the Autobots in their mission to defend Earth and one day restore their home planet of Cybertron. The Hub Original Family Movie is produced by Hasbro Studios.

Transforming Transformers, for Real!

With Takara now involved, the potential for new Transformers to arrive (and maybe just in time for the next Transformers series than film) with motorized parts to transform planes, trains and automobiles into giant mecha is going to be exciting.

Takara Tomy’s toy line may well get more than just a reinventing of the wheel. Their next line of products may soon transform if the videos from the Tokyo Toy Show 2013 are any indication. In prototype form is a Transformers vehicle that’s capable of morphing from car to humanoid robot form, and no doubt vice versa. All of this can be currently powered by an iPhone.

So just where is the new Teen Titans “Going?”

The original Teen Titans was fun, and had connected with those who followed the comic books. In Go, not so much.

Banner2 Teen Titans GO ! marks the return to TV of a team of young superheroes from the early 2000’s series of a similar name. Based on characters from DC Comics, this incarnation feels more a version of Big Brother with only the Sugar Plum Fairy watching over them. Raven (voiced by Tara Strong), Robin (Scott Menville), Starfire (Hynden Walch), Cyborg (Khary Payton), and Beast Boy (Greg Cipes) are roommates in Titans Tower. Even superheroes have their down time, and that’s when these cameras are rolling, observing their interactions during the mundane events of everyday life because nothing can turn a normal afternoon into chaos faster than five teens with superpowers and an affinity for hijinks.
