Climb Aboard to See Star Trek: The Ultimate Voyage 50th Anniversary Concert!

Michael Dorn’s voice guided the show. Shatner and Patrick Stewart also provided pre-recorded voice over in some sections, and it helps underscore the meaning of what Star Trek Generations is truly about.

No Star Trek fan will want to miss The Ultimate Voyage: 50th Anniversary Concert Tour flying to select cities all across North America and beyond. This event is now into a Canadian leg of their show and they will return to the United States with more performances in May before taking a break. The event will cumulate to a special performance September 25, 2016, at the Palais des Congres in Paris, France. Had the date been Sept 8th, the broadcast date of Star Trek, the true die-hard would have noticed.

The Paramount Theatre was used in the Seattle, WA show as a fitting nod to the studio who owns this special property. The stage was decorated to resemble the bridge of the Enterprise from The Next Generation, and there was an effervescence glow. The lighting changed to establish the mood of each orchestral score. The music played perfectly in sync with the video montage (all of which was gloriously remastered for the big screen in Digital Cinema Package) of the series. Whoever put together this presentation really knew each Star Trek episode and film. To see the music played as Spock fought Kirk in “Amok Time” brought the same chills in me as I saw it back then, on television, for the first time. Another pivotal moment which stirred my emotions was when Picard was being transformed into a Borg and led the charge in “Best of Both Worlds.” The last frames showed Locutus before Riker said, “Fire!”

2016 Victoria Film Festival Guide Launch & Genre Picks

In this list, we offer our choice picks of the 2016 Victoria Film Festival to go see.

Victoria Film Festival 2016 The Victoria Film Festival‘s online guide goes live today at midnight, and the launch party had the who’s who of cinema aficionados from this city in attendance to get the first sneak peek. The printed version will see distribution in the coming days at this operation’s offices and at kiosks around town.

Announced is this year’s opening gala film, My Internship in Canada. This political satire features Irdens Exantus as a Haitian intern navigating his way through Canadian politics and sports in his attempt to understand this country. The film stars Patrick Huard as Steve Guibord, an independent Member of Parliament who has the powers in his hands to decide if Canada will go to war with the Middle East. Just which way this film will go will depend on the point of view writer/director Philippe Falardeau is focussing on. When this film has been earmarked by the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) as one of Canada’s Top 10 Best Canadian Films of 2015, it’s a safe bet this movie is very reverent today because of the issues it touches upon.

In addition to documentaries which provides social insight and enough foodie inspired movies for me to savour (like Sergio Herman: F*cking Perfect and The Sandwich Nazi), the picks of this year’s films playing at the Victoria Film Festival of 2016 range from animated fun, historically significant, musically mysterious to the terrifying!

2016 the Year of Babymetal: New Album and World Tour

Babymetal2 J-pop-metal music trio Babymetal has confirmed their second album will be released through earMUSIC on April 1 of next year. The day of release has been branded ‘Fox Day’ and is normally seen in Japan as a day for renewal. The Japanese Government begins their fiscal year on April 1st and that is a date many corporations form or merge. It is also the time children start their school year.

Babymetal will be backing their latest release with a world tour that will include a concert in London‘s SSE Arena, Wembley on April 2nd and a headline show at Tokyo Dome in Japan — with dates to be confirmed in the new year.

It’s a Noel Fielding Twisted Christmas

From the minds that performed the music of the Noel Fielding’s Luxury Comedy television series comes a new pull at the twisted Christmas cracker. Loose Tapestries whose songs include Luxury Comedy Theme and Surrounded By Shape Shifting Werewolves offer pockets full of mistletoe, a disco brussels sprout and running naked covered in goose fat in Can’t Wait for Christmas.

When it comes to weird and demented holiday tunes, Can’t Wait for Christmas ranks among past songs like Ricky Tomlinson’s Christmas My Arse, The Goodies’ Father Christmas Do Not Touch, and The Goons’ I’m Walking Backwards for Christmas. Britain certainly has a lot to answer for.

Loose Tapestries was formed in 2012. Their members are Noel Fielding (of The Mighty Boosh fame), Sergio Pizzorno (of band Kasabian), Ben Kealey, and Tim Carter.

Their album Loose Tapestries Presents the Luxury Comedy Tapes is available on MP3, streaming services, and iTunes.

Looking into Danny Collins Tangled Music Career, A Movie Review

Danny Collins is one of those films that looks at how tough life is for some musicians who are groomed by commercial success and who seek to escape from its trappings. Before they got their big break, some might have had an idea in what direction they wanted to go with for expressing themselves, but when they broke into the industry, the producers see something else. Just like Begin Again, just what some musicians can become, namely in what Dave Kohl (Gretta’s musician boyfriend) became, may well be their own beasts of burden.

Dan Fogelman (Cars, Tangled) wrote a very thoughtful screenplay that certainly explores the difficulties in starting anew. Danny Collins (nicely played by Al Pacino) finally receives a letter from John Lennon decades later as a gift by his long-time manager Frank, (excellently played by Christopher Plummer), and if he read it sooner than later, maybe his career would have gone to different places. He is a commercial success, but was that what he really wanted?

How to Buy Noise Cancelling Headphones for the Budget Conscious

Finding a good set of noise cancelling headphones can be tough. Quite often, you do get what you pay for and I’ve gone though a lot of these over the past 15 years. I found that I’m always upgrading every two or three years. I tried plenty, ranging from ear buds, in-the-ear, over the ear and the like. That list includes Princess Leia style mufflers! But to find that what’s suitable is never ever perfect. There’s even days I feel like a Cyberman because of what I put over my head.

To nail that right pair of speakers to strap on to the sides of my ears or anyone else’s really depends on the shape of each individual’s ears and in how that person perceives sound more so than the latest fashion trends. Yes, I admit it, I still love my TRON inspired KOSS Porta-Pro. The foam needs replacing but for the rest, it has yet to die on me even though my much beloved V-Moda for my iPod Mini (still the best engineered sounding player in my opinion) from 2004 have long since disappeared.
