Kitsune Games is releasing major updates and offering new stuff for those who love Kitsune Tails, a retro-style platformer. The reason it’s doing so well is not only because of its colourful graphics but also its LGBTQ representation. In why we love it here is because of how well the folklore from Japan is weaved into the storyline.

They announced expanded Steam Workshop support (custom levels!) at the simple click of a button, release of an official soundtrack, and new quality-of-life features within the game!

From the Press Release:

The Steam Workshop update comes with a number of quality-of-life features, including new Speedrun Timers and a much-requested post-game character swap option. Pick up the OST by composer Jorge Saldías on Steam now for $4.99, or in a new Deluxe Edition bundle for $22.49.

The Portal Encounters in Aliens Uncovered Part 12 Are Many, But What About The Few Not Found Elsewhere?

Anyone searching for the truth will find some new ideas in the next chapter of the Aliens Uncovered series, subtitled Portals Encountered.

Aliens Uncovered Portal Encounters PosterNow Available to Stream on Google Play, Vudu and AppleTV

The Superstition Mountains is certainly a place of mystery, and in Aliens Uncovered Portal Encounters, the 12th episode of a 15 film run, what’s unearthed concerns folklore more so than anything else! Here, the focus is about why people go missing and the search for Lost Dutchman’s Gold Mine! That’s because some people theorise the metal is required for achieving faster than light travel.

One day, maybe someone from the U.S. military will open up and explain why they patrol these places. They are policing them because “There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy.” There are organisations who think the world is not ready for what’s lurking across that gateway, and perhaps they are doing what’s best for humanity.

With Kitsune Tails, Players Can Do Speed Runs and More As Crazy Like A Fox

…or should that be bright-eyed and bushy-tailed when considering the rich environments that can experienced when entering the exotic worlds offered in this game?

Kitsune Tails Logo DesignThe world of Shinto religion comes alive in the videogame Kitsune Tails. And true to this product’s namesake, it’s about a young lady fox embarking on a hero’s journey, and encountering various creatures and yokai along the way. Some are (thankfully) good-natured and others evil. After many weeks of casual play, I’m finally finding where I can purchase power ups. Technically, you can’t buy them right from the get go, and you can find that place located in the village’s main hub. I was wondering where that was hiding and it took searching to find it!

There’s no Mac port. I’m on this operating system more often and the PC laptop I own doesn’t allow for hours of long play unless I tweak the settings.

In this retro platformer, I found more of the latter in the actual game-play and the former in the cut-scenes. The graphics of the game depict everything in the style of a classic 8-bit game. It’s basically Super Mario Bros. 3 / World with all the bonus material later development of this property now offers. That includes speed running, creating custom maps, and playing carnival-like minigames (the best part). Players can use simple-to-use modding tools, easy-to-learn Lua scripting and the open source Tiled Map Editor to create their open custom levels if they find this game too easy!

Who’s Ready for The Casagrandes Movie During March Spring Break?

It’s about time for Ronnie Anne to shine in The Casagrandes Movie, which promises to bring in some local folklore to make this Mexican adventure shine.

The Casagrandes MovieComing to Netflix March 22, 2024

Ronnie Anne is going to have one heck of a party in The Casagrandes Movie. Whether she’ll be any wiser while in Mexico, that’ll depend on many things. Will she be able to deal with a demigod, and is she up on her folklore? Probably not, but I get the feeling the film will take a stab at what makes the Legend Quest series great.

Just how much of this fantasy element will factor into this work speaks for itself in the trailer. Although the art and animation style is very different from the television series, only the long-time viewer will notice. While it’s sad the Nickelodeon show is no more, as reported by Axios, thankfully the characters get moments to shine in the Loud House series, and if the film does well enough, perhaps more one-offs.

In IDW’s A Haunted Girl, Life is Never Easy When Considering the Nightmares Cleo Sees….

Every once in a while, there’s a remarkable comic book that explores the battle people with Depresssion has, and A Haunted Girl adds an extra supernatural depth to make the read work.

A Haunted Girl #1 Comic Book CoverIDW Publishing

Life has not been the same for Cleo Newman ever since she claims she can see dead people. In A Haunted Girl #2, this young teenager will have to be careful about whom she tells about her visions as she attempts to reintegrate back into society and school. In the first issue, readers find her in the hospital, recovering. She attempted suicide as she could not cope with her life; And in the latest chapter, readers get a glimpse at why her world became what it is.

Following her sports injury, nothing has been the same. As a result, she’d rather let the days wither away, instead of thinking that maybe she should find a new sport or hobby to enjoy. Her father (a single parent) is trying his best to motivate, but when these spirits show up, either they’re holding her back or she’s part of a prophecy which still has to reveal itself.

When Ghost Month is in Full Swing in 2023, How Can We Identify the Types of Spirits Said to be Visiting?

Sometimes, the best known spirits that linger around during Ghost Month are those from folklore and time honoured tradtions! Are you ready to face them?

Singapore Orchard Grave Veneration during Ghost MonthGhosts from South Asia come in different shapes and forms, and some are feared whereas others are revered. And it’s terrific they get loved in entertainment. In the past, I’ve explored the best of what cinema and literature have offered. However, when new releases are few and far between every year to recognise Ghost Month, I’ll have to look elsewhere to get my scares in.

As a result, the only book I’ve come across to bring various tales together, ranging from folklore to original works, is Asian Ghost Short Stories! This covers areas east of India. Although it’s not the perfect collection due to glaring errors with the folklore, and being mostly stories rather than recounting alleged encounters, it’s still a good primer to introduce paranormal enthusiasts to the lore from this region.

To honour this occasion, which started two days ago (Aug 16 to Sept 14), I’m going in a different direction this time. Through my research, I’ve learned nine types of spirits can roam the land! The book, Śūraṅgama Sūtra (PDF link) gives a great outline, and furthermore, the Hungry Ghost type (which gets its own festival Aug 30th) are sub-categorized! On the list are:
