Interest in fashionable nerdy face masks is now the norm. While they are easier to find in Asia than America, all anyone has to do is look at Soranews for the latest trends or even Etsy to get a customized face wear. Even Kotaku has an article on how these face masks are sparking creativity amongst those who know how. Whether that’s with a solid piece of plastic with a 3D printer or something sewn, are they really needed?

When Disney, Chaosium Games and Inked Gaming is also getting on board, buyers really have to remember these customized face wear products are not medically certified. There’s still a chance of catching covid-19 if these fabric masks are not properly washed. The good is that part of the money made is going into a charity, the bad, they aren’t anything special to make the wearer feel protected.

Slashing Bluelight Away with Sword Art Online’s Eyewear

Timbuk 3 sang the praises for donning dark spectacles in their song, “Future’s So Bright I Gotta Wear Shades” but I was never sure about donning generic looking sunglasses. The multimedia franchise Sword Art Online explores virtual worlds where its heroes can enter (after putting on a specialized headwear instead of simply glasses) but never leave … and for fans to wear a product based on this series on their eyes will not doubt show to the real world how serious they are with being an otaku, especially when sitting outside in public and staring at their smartphones too long. Although these are meant to be simply computer glasses for indoor use, I’m sure anime fans want to show off their cred.

This piece of protective-wear is designed to filter out harmful blue light. The technology has been around for a fair number of years as generic eye-wear, as a coating over prescription lenses or clip-on over regular glasses. Not many entrepreneurs have decided to turn it into a fashion line, which is what this line is about.

Orders are being taken from June 27 to August 6, 2016 through Otakumode. This item is expected to ship on December 2017.

Three designs sporting different blades (belonging to the main characters) along the arm are offered. They are Kirito’s Elucidator / Dark Repulser, Asuna’s Lambent Light and Sinon’s Hecate II.

2nd Wave of Artists Announced for Japan’s Cultural “Moshi Moshi Nippon Fest 2016!”

Cultural festival Moshi Moshi Nippon will be making its return to the Tokyo Taiikukan in Sendagayan this November 24-27. This festival will be 4 days filled with live performances, traditional culture, arts demonstrations, fashion shows, and food. Now in it’s third year, Moshi Moshi Nippon Fest 2014 saw 15,000 in attendance followed by a record of 25,000 in 2015. In 2016 the Moshi Moshi Nippon Festival has been promised to be bigger than ever. And as a special treat this year for non-Japanese citizens, those who pre-register will be given free entry.

Japan’s Graniph is Breaking out the Lum Wear for All Ages!

Still going strong after all these years Rumiko Takahashi’s creation of Urusei Yatsura finds a way to reach a new generation of anime fans. As of June 14th, Graniph’s of Japan will be carrying officially licensed Urusei Yatsura clothing for both children and adults in their store. Takahashi’s Yatsura exploded in the 1980’s as an animated series after first premiering in the “Weekly Shōnen Sunday” in 1978. The manga ran until 1987 while the animated series was broadcast from 1981 to 1986. In all 195 episodes of the series, 11 OVAs, and 6 theatrical films tells the adventures of lascivious Ataru Moroboshi after he saves planet earth against an invading horde of aliens (the Oni) in a deciding game of tag, only to find he’s now saddled with the combatant from a misunderstood marriage proposal. Ataru’s girlfriend and intended betrothed Shinobu Miyake, is less than pleased. Though Ataru has no interest in his new bride-to-be, he must try to rekindle the flame of love with Shinobu and avoid Lum’s jealous electrical shock attacks.

Star Trek: TNG Swimwear for the Explorer in You.

Think Geek has revealed a line of Star Trek: The Next Generation (TNG) swimwear for women, just in time for the United States‘ Memorial Day weekend. But don’t fret, women internationally will still have the Canada Day long weekend (July 1) and Japan‘s Marine Day (a blessing of the oceans on July 18) to spend on the beach like they’re on an away mission.

Swimsuits come in The Next Generation uniform colours of red, blue, and gold. There is also a Deanna Troi swim shirt for women who burn easily and need to cover up without compromising their TNG look. And for those who are heading to the public pool or to the one in the backyard there is a romper one can wear. Star Trek: TNG swimwear is available now at ThinkGeek.

Isetan Shinjuku Store‘s seventh floor promotional hall will be hosting “Lupin III LUPINISSIMO IN ISETAN 2016” from February 3-8, 2016. Chief Director for Lupin III, Tomonaga Kazuhide, will be doing a talk for the event.
