Dynamite Comics’ Lilo and Stitch Makes this Wonderful Sequel an Ohana Affair to Look Forward To!

Everything fans of Lilo and Stitch want to see as a continuation is well explored here, and it’s a logical sequel than having to catch ’em all over again.

Lilo and Stitch #1 (Dynamite Comics) CoverSpoiler Alert

For those who don’t want to see Disney remake Lilo and Stitch into a live action film, thankfully, Dynamite Comics is doing what the studio should’ve considered–and that’s to continue the story! Here, after the spunky team has paid their due, what happens next is to just live the life they’re used to. But when most of the galaxy is aware of how useful this blue furry alien is for any plan of conquest, what the first issue offers is a taste of them dealing with life outside of Hawaii!

I believe it’s about time this universe is being made bigger. What’s presented before was mostly about what goes on in this island nation or sees Stitch meet other young girls to be best friends to, especially after Lilo has grown up. Both Stitch and Ai (review), along with the Japanese series Stitch! (review) doesn’t belong in the same continuity, but any fan can see what this series is mainly about.

Disney’s Gargoyles. Ready to Burst at the Seams Again!

At long last, casual fans of Disney’s Gargoyles can pick up reprints of the comic books released by other publishers prior to Dynamite Comics’ acquisition!

Disney's GargoylesBack the commerative editions here.

Fans of Disney’s Gargoyles can rejoice! The elusive comic books from yesteryears are getting a digital cleanup and will be reprinted! After Dynamite Comic‘s Kickstarter campaign to publish the 30th anniversary editions is over, it may head to stores next.

Whatever the background drama wase to finally make this happen, at least the wait will be worth it. I imagine that because this new publisher has been doing very well with reimaging a lot of Disney properites recently, to visit this particular 90s Disney Afternoon favourite was inevitable. Back in the last decade, fans have been patient and campaigning to get the animated series out on home video.

Just what kind of nightmares can be delivered in comic book form depends on how vivid your imagatioin gets fired up after reading this list of must-reads for the Halloween season!

Comic Book Alice Cooper #1Just when I thought there weren’t enough comic book reads for the Halloween season during the past two years, a lot has changed since then. The publishers heard the screams and lamentations from not only myself, but others too. Thus, for this year, they must have upped the game to make sure releases for the spooky season memorable.

Without further ado, I present the best top thirteen titles I recommend checking out this spooktober! What I offer is a mix of both ongoing releases and one-shots.

Alice Cooper (Dynamite)

Oct 11, 2023

In this new ongoing series, Alice Cooper, the Nightmare Lord, has reclaimed the seat of power in his own dark realm. This series started in September, and here, his dreamworld was being invaded. Ever since the release of Welcome to My Nightmare (Amazon link), which came out in 2015, fans like me have been wanting more, and we finally have it! In the October issue, Alice must face-off with the Lord of Hell himself, Lucifer! Joe Harris is the team lead of this series as the writer, with Eman Casallos handling the artistic chores.

Darkwing Duck, Dynamite Comics and Disney. What Can Go Wrong?

The danger that quacks in the night is back! And we look at the first two issues of Dynamite Comic’s Darkwing Duck.

Darkwing Duck #2 comic book coverThe difference between the various releases of Darkwing Duck in comic book form is in what aspect of Drake Mallard’s life should be the focus. The first take from Disney dealt with his heroics, Boom! Studios had longer narrative arcs in the same vein, and when licensing changed hands again to Joe Books (a lesser known company), I lost track. It’s easier to follow the animated series instead. The latest series by Dynamite Comics thankfully doesn’t try to acknowledge those past works as far as I know.

As much as I’d love to keep up with non canonical tales, sometimes all I need is one Duck, and one vision. He worked alone before making friends who becomes his sidekicks. Thankfully this latest honours the early spirit that defines the series. Here, we read about Mallard’s attempt to keep Gosalyn safe, and the only way is to hang up the cape. When he’s not present, she’s a magnet for trouble. Two issues in, to save her than other people are becoming too much.

Disney’s Legendary Gargoyles Are Back in Business and Their Future with Dynamite Comics

The art by George Kambadais beautifully recalls everything I adore from Disney’s Gargoyles cartoon, and even more!

Dynamite Comics GargoylesDynamite Comic‘s grande plan may well be to bring the complete catalogue of Disney Afternoon cartoons back in sequential art form! It’s cheaper than trying to reboot everything, and so far, we have Gargoyles and Darkwing Duck. Both even have along with facsimiles of their previous fruns. The former had an eleven issue run by Marvel Comics and the latter for eight by Joe Books.

The reason for the delay in saying anything is that I hoped I could track down the latter series to read and give a full review rather than partial. I didn’t find any at this comic book trade show in my city or at Fan Expo Vancouver, but I will say the reprint showed how absolutely fun and nostalgic that publication is. I need to attend a larger show to find them. Continue reading “Disney’s Legendary Gargoyles Are Back in Business and Their Future with Dynamite Comics”

During ECCC2019 Scott Duvall Slays it with Army of Darkness / Bubba Ho Tep

“IDW was into it. Dynamite wants to publish it. Joe likes the idea,” said Scott Duvall, “It was a matter of submitting the pitch and once I got approved, things moved fast.”

Scott Duvall Writer ArtistArmy of Darkness / Bubba Ho Tep (AoD/BHT) is a comic book not to be missed. It brings two fan favourites from the world of cult films into a crazy mix that only writer Scott Duvall and artist Vincenzo Federici can imagine. Issue number three is due April 10th, and for this author, it’s been quite a journey. He will soon celebrate ten years of being in the industry! This Vancouver, BC-based creator has plenty of ideas in the pipeline (including one concerning T-Rexes in World War 3), but when it comes to looking back at how he got to where he is now, he’s a talent to keep an eye on. He described the experience worthwhile. He grew up mostly reading Marvel Comics, but it was Y the Last Man which encouraged him to go into creating his own work.

“I always dreamed about it,” said Duvall, “Friends suggested I hook up with Arcana Comics. Sean O’Reilly helped me publish my first comic, Cryozone, and so I went to San Diego Comic-Con and handed it out to editors–anybody I could talk to. From there I got a Marvel internship.”
