Just What are the Gremlins Hiding in Secrets of the Mogwai?

What’s presented in Gremlins Secrets of the Mogwai is more of a coming of age tale where Sam and Gizmo truly get to bond.

Gremlins Secrets of the MogwaiStreaming on HBO Max and broadcasting on Cartoon Network

Fortunately, Gremlins can’t be contained to one network. Following its streaming debut, these critters are making their way to others, and the Secrets of the Mogwai will soon be everywhere! I’m surprised there’s no merchandise tie-in to accompany this release.

This prequel to the films has an intriguing origin story. Although it retcons a few details, the changes are unnecessary. The lore revealed in the second film says it all, and I’d prefer the cuddly raccoon to have a different name than go by what’s presented prior. It seems these creatures live in a Fern Gully type of fantasy world, and if it was possible to bring together various franchises into one metaverse, I’d like to see Fantastic Beasts merge with this IP. That’s because the 1920s were ripe with lots of pulp influences, and to carry that to the fore would be terrific, too.

Zoe Lister-Jones’ Slip is Sweetly Funny than Scary When Hungry Ghosts are Referenced

Despite the dimension hopping going on, trying to lay down evidence Slips through the cracks in this well meaning comedy.

Zoe Lister-Jones SLIP on ROKU ChannelNow Playing on Roku

Mae Cannon (Zoe Lister-Jones) is not happy, and she wishes for change. When her current marriage with Elijah (Whitmer Thomas) is devoid of romance, the world she Slip (without the s) into–which is also the title of this character-driven comedy–is different after each one-night stand.

In each episode, she Quantum Leaps into another version of herself. At first, she tries to figure out what’s going on, and although I disagree with her idea, my theory has better weight so she won’t fall down again. Unlike that NBC series, she has no mission to right a wrong, and the situation gets quirkier as she questions why this latest relationship matters. The story by Lister-Jones gets stranger, and it has to be binge-watched to appreciate the various character arcs going on.

The people Mae meets change each episode, and for the most part, the series considers what makes life worth living for than to stay dragged in the mud. This talent is also great at looking bewildered at the start of her next leap after she has an orgasm. Ultimately, she’ll have to decide if returning to her reality is worthwhile than sticking to the one she’s at.

Die Harter is full of ♥ and Craziness

Even though the number of episodes in Die Harter is shorter than season one, maybe eight is enough so the inevitable movie cut doesn’t trim any story out.

Die Harter Movie PosterAvailable on Roku

Fans of Kevin Hart‘s style of comedy and John Cena being weird will certainly Die Harter of laughter at how this series is continuing. The fictional version of this comedian believes he can become the star of his own film.

After reinventing The Jeffersons as an action television show, people are talking about him. But he wants to go further and have a movie that is completely unscripted. He pitches it to Jordan (Nathalie Emmanuel) in hopes she’ll join him, but little does he know his stunt in a public place drew the attention of a hater.

When this series is presented in 15 minute chunks, I could take a breather and process the chaos that’s going on when Hart gets knocked out, threatened by a villain over a loudspeaker, escapes and tries to figure out who is after him!

Is It Die Hart or Die Harter? Movie Version Review and Sequel News.

Kevin Hart’s manic exuberance in Die Hart gets played up for different reasons. Can he become a different kind of talent that he’s not?

Die Hart 2 Movie PosterNot everyone knows Kevin Hart starred in a TV series which follows a fictional version of himself as he learns how to become an action star. Die Hart was released in 2020 on Quibi as 10 minute shorts, and to find an edited together movie on Amazon Prime is more of a reminder. That’s because Die Harter is set to debut on Roku on March 31.

From the official synopsis:

After achieving his dream of becoming a bona fide action hero in Die Hart, Kevin Hart now wants to cement his legacy as the greatest action star of all time. He’s developed a concept for a revolutionary movie where the action is so unscripted and unexpected that even Kevin won’t know what’s coming next. But his myopic dream comes with a blind spot, and he soon finds himself the victim of an evil revenge plot, orchestrated by someone from his past.

In the sequel, Kevin must enlist the help of his favourite co-star Jordan King (Nathalie Emmanuel, returning for season 2), his over-eager assistant Andre (Ben Schwartz), Andre’s mom Cynthia (Paula Pell), and legendary Hollywood stuntman Mr. 206 (John Cena) if he wants to survive.

Before Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, there was Super Sentai! This original presentation consists of many series only a superfan of the Tokusatsu genre can make sense of. Not only do we have the (fill in this blank) type ranger titles, but also there’s Kamen Rider and Cyborg 009. They’re all part of the megaverse, a term I’d rather use than meta.

What’s offered started hitting Japanese airwaves in the mid-70s, and to know where everything crosses over means really remembering all that’s been broadcasted since. Thanks to Shout! Factory for providing me with the releases lately, and they’re definitely shows I’m proud to play for my young nieces and nephews in hopes they’ll become fellow otakus.

First, I’ll look at what’s released this week and work backwards:
