[Victoria, BC] Curious Comics Fall 2013 Plans

At the back of the new Curious Comics store is a large table where players can book a slot to play their games.

Curious ComicsNerd row has gotten a whole lot more geekier with Curious Comics set to change its stock in its new storefront, formerly Curious! Two, to all things board and role playing games related.

Unlike their neighbouring store, Yellowjacket, where it places particular emphasis on Magic the Gathering, Curious Comics’ new gaming store will stand out by leaning more on hosting an open space where gamers and come in to play the latest in RPG games and miniature battles. Pokémon and Yu-gi-Oh seems to be well in hand at Skyhaven Games, and Warhammer with Games Workshop, but gamers crave more. Other systems exist like Reaper Miniature’s own Warlord system, but sometimes they get missed because of the lack of marketing involved to get them as well known.

[Victoria, BC] Interactivity Games gets on Board with a Café Theme

According to Metro News and Jack Pinder, owner of Interactivity Games, the concept of this new store is “modelled after the popular Snakes and Lattes café in Toronto.”

Interactivity Board Game CafeInteractivity Games, a fixture in the local Victoria downtown scene, may look like they are closing their doors on Fort Street, but they are in fact moving. They are being rechristened Interactivity Board Game Café and they will be moving to 733 Yates, the true core of the city.

Some business analysts might say this operation is climbing up the ladders to escape the recession. The next step of opening a café is a good one. Here, many cups of joe and food will be offered to customers content to sit for a spell and play board games. A library of these products will be available for patrons to visit, and game masters — experienced individuals who know the ins and out of these games — will be available to instruct people how to play the latest products than to let them figure it out.

In Victoria, B.C., Canada, St. Michael’s University School offers a tradition for Fringe Festival enthusiasts to enjoy. They have a wonderful summer intensive program in musical theatre which makes it a hotbed of learning at a rapid pace. Classes focus on teaching students how to develop their voice, stage presence and performance skills. No auditions are required to get in and this camp is great for introducing youths to the thrills of live theatre.

This program makes use of a well-known Broadway stage production and it becomes part of the regular Fringe Festival scene. Previous years included a very well done version of The Wedding Singer, Urinetown, Fame and High School Musical.

“They have been doing a musical every year in the Fringe for the last eight years,” said Janet Munsil, Artistic Director and Festival Producer, “And they’re the trailblazers in musicals at our 10-day long show.”

One particular alumni from the university, Andrew Sabiston, has gone on to write, Napoleon: The Musical, which was staged in Toronto.
