Spider-Mable is Web Slinging to VOD April 27th!

To know Mable Tooke’s journey means following her plight in the documentary SpiderMable, which won the Best Canadian Film title and the “Best of the Fest” Audience Award at the NorthwestFest International Documentary Festival in 2020 and more recently, the Edmonton Film Prize.

Organizations like the Make-a-Wish and The Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada always wants to help children stay positive amidst any crisis. Sometimes they are fighting for their own health like Bat-Kid from 2013 and they make the news because they have a desire to do more than just fight crime for a day. There’s even a documentary made about him by Warner Bros. Pictures, the parent company to DC Comics.

Not every story gets told. Across the country, the most recent hero is 10-year-old Orlando, Florida resident Gaige Pike who is ROBOgaige. In Chicago, Christian Clark’s alter-ego is SuperBlack. who fought villains alongside Batman. Even tweens can dream; before Bat-Kid came along in San Francisco, the Emerald City of the Pacific Northwest knew Erik Martin as Electron Boy, who helped Spider-Man fight crime. There’s no doubt more, and they all make the local media reports to show the encouraging power of the human spirit is everywhere.

In Canada, Mable Tooke is a cancer-fighter and a selfless 6-year-old patient whose desire to help others even while she is in the battle of her life proves even more children can be heroes for a day. It’s less about who the person wishes to become, be it a well known comic book hero or something invented, but more about what they represent. Each Make-a-Wish hero inspires others to stay strong as treatment of their ailment is ongoing. To know this young girl’s journey means following her struggles in the documentary SpiderMable, which won the Best Canadian Film title and the “Best of the Fest” Audience Award at the NorthwestFest International Documentary Festival in 2020 and more recently, the Edmonton Film Prize.

The Beasts of Burden: Occupied Territory Lives In the World of the Yurei

The Beasts of Burden are back! Emrys, the old English sheepdog with a nose for smelling out the supernatural, is in Japan and this work looks like a solo adventure. Technically, it’s happened already, and he’s recounting the events in flashback.

After many mini-series and one-shots, the wait for another tale to materialize was not long. Evan Dorkin and Sarah Dyer share writing duties. Anyone who isn’t familiar with this canine team of paranormal investigators, three hardcovers editions–Neighbourhood Watch, Wise Dogs & Eldritch Men, and Animal Rites (Amazon Links)–collects their past adventures. No background reading is required to pick up in this latest story, titled Occupied Territory.

Godzilla and Kong in Print; The Clash of the Prequels

If I had to choose between which of the two books as the clear winner, my money is on Kong this time. Sorry, Godzilla.

Godzilla vs Kong is a tale of two titans that one movie cannot fulfill alone. The previous films show how terrifying they are separate, and these beasts will clash. It’s been foretold! We’ve seen this in King of the Monsters, in a very short act where Dr. Ishirō Serizawa and his pilot found an Atlantean-like ruin depicting a time where the titans ran amok, and the humans back then disappeared.

The graphic novels Godzilla: Dominion and Kingdom Kong add a layer of lore. Both of the works serve as a prequel to the showdown coming to select cinemas and HBO Max. It’s amazing that Godzilla faced many creatures in the past, but yet they don’t hold a candle to the mightiest ape.

On Zack Snyder’s Justice League

Snyder’s return merely reshuffled and added stuff from the cutting room floor to make the many subplots more intelligible and up the wow factor.

Fans of Zack Snyder‘s DC Universe are not likely to see his set of films completed. He told Vanity Fair his vision and all we can do is sigh and start the #restorethesnyderverse movement. After years of campaigning, reshoots and post-production madness, a new cut of Justice League still has fans divided. The good: the story makes much more sense and the heroes–namely Cyborg (Ray Fisher)–have a role to play. The bad: the setup for the finale won’t see fruition when considering all the politics involved to get this expanded takes finessed for all to view.

This version sets up the coming of Darkseid proper and does not shy away from showing us how bad he can be. They look more like creations from Michael Bay’s imagination, and I doubt there’s a cinematic villain who can rival Ming the Merciless’ fashion sense from Flash Gordon!

Spider-Man Today Vault Comics announced that, due to Covid-related delays, the release of Radio Apocalypse #1 has been pushed back to October 2021.

“Anyone who has read Ram and Anand’s other work knows just how exceptional their creative efforts truly are,” said Vault Co-Founder & Editor-in-Chief, Adrian Wassel. “Covid has thrown a wrench into every aspect of our lives, and yet somehow we’ve all learned to keep moving forward. Still, the last thing we want to do is rush what will be a singular and masterful series, and so we’ve decided to hold the Radio Apocalypse release just a bit longer. I promise, it’s worth it.”

I’m not surprised that bestselling and award-winning author Neil Gaiman’s Norse Mythology adaptation is continuing. I made the call back in December with my review of #3, and todays news only affirms that the comic book adaptation is going in a different direction! It’ll stay faithful to the written work, but the chapter lead up to Ragnorak will be different!

Gaiman continues to lead the pack with Dark Horse Comics’ terrific pool of talents–from Eisner winning comics legend P. Craig Russell, along with artists Matt Horak (The Punisher, The Covenant), Mark Buckingham (Hellblazer, Miracleman), Gabriel Walta (Barbalien: Red Planet, Sentient), Sandy Jarrell (Archie, Meteor Men), and colorist Lovern Kindzierski (The Worst Dudes, The Sandman).
