IMAX Cinemas Treat Fans with an Interstellar Poster

By Ed Sum (The Vintage Tempest)

Audiences planning on going to see Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar at IMAX cinemas this weekend will be treated to a limited edition collector print designed by Gallery 1988 artist Kevin Dart. Supplies will be limited, but for poster aficionados, this 12×16 one-sheet is certainly very nice to look at.

When this artist has done work for COSMOS: A Spacetime Odyssey, perhaps he had some insight as to what to create for this exclusive. To contrast the lone farm with that of the rocket suggests that humanity may well be alone in the universe. Community is important, but until collectors see the film, just what this image means is deceptive.

That also includes what IMAX’s plans are for their incentive program. Is Fanfix gone? The answer is most likely yes as their marketing arm looks to appease more movie goers than limit it to those going to first shows on a Thursday night.

Benedict Cumberbatch on Set of The Hollow Crown

By james Robert Shaw (The Wind up Geek)

Cumberbatch3Photos of Benedict Cumberbatch in his role as Richard III have appeared on the internet. The photos, taken on October 20th, show Cumberbatch on the set of the BBC’s television series The Hollow Crown: War of the Roses. It is unknown if these are scenes from the Richard III episode or his appearance in Henry VI, Part II but they are being filmed around the Wells Cathedral in Somerset.

Hollow Crown is based off the works of William Shakespeare and focuses on England’s past monarchs.

The first series titled The Hollow Crown, contained stories on Richard II, Henry IV, and Henry V. The second series will feature Henry VI and Richard III.

In Richard III, Cumberbatch will star alongside Dame Judi Dench, Sophie Okonedo, Keeley Hawes, Sam Troughton, and James Fleet.

The Hollow Crown: War of the Roses will broadcast in 2016.

IMAX Rewards Guardians Fans with a Special Poster, A Review

By Ed Sum (The Vintage Tempest)

Anyone who went to see Marvel Entertainment’s Guardians of the Galaxy Thursday night were given a surprising treat. In select IMAX theatres belonging to Landmark Cinemas and Cineplex in Canada, a slick and glossy 13×19” poster showing off the silhouettes of the rag-tag team of renegades … er Guardians to display on their wall.

This image is not part of the IMAX Fanfix program. Instead, it is a design by Poster Posse, a collective of artists from around the world who design unique collectible art, where their work is truly limited (distribution will vary by region, if not contract). This particular work is created by Marko Manev. It’s certainly worth framing to proudly put in any Marvel Comic’s Universe enthusiast’s den, and display next to the suitcase that holds Phase One of the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Avengers Assembled collection.IMAX The movie certainly kicks off Phase Two with a righteous start!

Any viewers who attended the early exclusive 17min preview of this film will find that even the earlier mini-poster complements this new one in an evolutionary way. The July 7th poster is a study that Andy Warhol can be proud of. And Manev’s work reminds art aficionados that he may be going after a look much like the Band of Brothers — but this time, instead of soldiers silhouetted against a stormy sky, these misfit warriors are proudly ready to take on any challenge with their spaceship ready to transport them to wherever danger will lurk. The cassette tape is symbolic of the 70’s and 80’s to remind onlookers that director James Gunn was aiming to pay tribute to the pulps of a later age — to which he greatly succeeded at doing.

Gunn has confirmed that a second film will happen. With the team’s origin tale out-of-the-way, the real frontier action can begin!

How to get a Sneak Peak of Guardians of the Galaxy on July 7th!

By Ed Sum (The Vintage Tempest)

Guardians-of-the-Galaxy-IMAX-3D-poster-1

In a brilliant stroke of marketing, fans of Marvel Entertainment’s films can get a sneak peek of Guardians of the Galaxy on July 7th, 2014 along with 17mins of exclusive footage in select IMAX theatres for free.

Hopefully what is presented will be enough to salivate the most hungry fans interested in this next part of this Phase 2 saga leading up to Avengers 2: Age of Ultron.

When a crazy Star Lord (Peter Quuill) steals an orb from a vault, all he ends up doing is perhaps getting into a ride of the century. He has to ally himself with “branded” criminals to become the Guardians of the Galaxy.

As a token of thanks to those hard-core fans and Marvelites, a special poster (depicted left) will be offered to show attendees. They can see if a local theatre is listed and register here for a pass. ID is required at time of redemption.

Ann B. Davis, known to millions as the beloved housekeeper Alice on ABC’s sitcom The Brady Bunch, has died at a San Antonio hospital, she was 88.

Davis suffered a fall Saturday at a home in San Antonio she shared with retired bishop, Bill Frey and his wife. She died Sunday at University Hospital without gaining consciousness.

For five years (1969 – 74) Davis played housekeeper Alice Nelson on the hit ABC sitcom, The Brady Bunch. In her blue and white maid’s uniform Alice was the glue to the Bradys and was considered a member of the family. Davis would reprise her role for several TV-movies, and three spin-off series.

Before her Brady days, Davis struggled as a comedienne in an underground beer and wine bistro on Hollywood’s Sunset Blvd. Under the show name ‘Typhoid Mary’ Davis earned about a couple of dollars a night.
