13 Halloween Movies That One Should Never Forget

Sometimes, the best Halloween Movies are those which can withstand the test of time than to follow the trends.

Halloween Movies - Haxan. Witchcraft through the AgesSome horror flicks come and go as part of the must watch tradition when All Hallow’s Eve approaches. Others are just plain forgotten over the years, if not in the passing of a century. If there’s ever a list that need to bring the ‘classics’ back, the hope is to bring the movies from the yesteryear back to the fore. These Halloween movies are the ones I loved watching while growing up. Whether it’s themed for the season or not, I feel certain films should never get discarded in favour for new ones. A couple of comedic films are added just so some folks will not come out scarred after a marathon view of these movies.

Häxan: Witchcraft Through the Ages (1929)

If this classic silent film is viewed along with The Wicker Man, then just maybe the third Halloween film can be better appreciated. Although very dated in its special effects technology and very primeval, this movie is just as effective now for its haunting terror. I love this film because it is very atmospheric. It blends a documentary and fiction together as the history of witchcraft is explored. While the Wiccans of today proclaim that they are not witches, there are similarities that must be studied.

The Seventh Dwarf comes to America through Shout! Factory Kids

SeventhDwarfBy Ed Sum (The Vintage Tempest)

Shout! Factory Kids will be bringing the German-made computer animated film, The Seventh Dwarf to North America in a limited theatrical run starting July 31st (in New York City and Los Angeles) and in a video release come August 18th, 2015.

This third instalment follows after the successful live-action versions 7 Dwarves – Men Alone in the Wood (2004) and 7 Dwarves: The Wood Is Not Enough (2006), and it brings the talents of Actress Peyton List (Disney’s Jessie) as Princess Rose, comedian Norm MacDonald (Saturday Night Live) as Burner and the Godmother of Punk Nina Hagen as Dellamorta. Fans of Hagen’s work will know that she played The Evil Queen in the previous two films.

Just like in previous installments, the fairy tale world of Snow White, the Seven Dwarfs, Cinderella and Red Riding Hood are combined much like in Disney’s Into the Woods. In this latest story, Princess Rose is capable of saving the kingdom from the Evil Dellamorta’s curse if she avoids being pricked before her 18th birthday. However, the bumbling Bubi, the seventh dwarf, messes the celebration up. Both he and his companions has to go on a quest to find Rose’s prince charming to save a kingdom. Sometimes it’s not easy for diminutive people to be king too…

Shout! Factory Brings Métal Hurlant Chronicles to New Masses!

As Métal Hurlant Chronicles moves from one tale to the next, viewers will find that the story is linked in subtle ways.

20287374Not many science fiction aficionados may have Métal Hurlant Chronicles when it broadcasted on SyFy last year and its broadcast even escaped me when I scanned for new programs to enjoy. When its competing against heavy hitters like Doctor Who, Star Trek and Stargate on broadcast television, interest is only as good as the continued support that the network is willing to give.

This Franco-Belgian television science fiction anthology series is based on the story that’s been published in the comics magazine Heavy Metal and it is thankfully getting the love it deserves from Shout! Factory. They will be releasing the complete series April 14, 2015.
