Winter’s Coming & Thaw Can Stay Frozen with Disney

E: The fantastic world of Disney’s Princesses have grown to include one — no two classy ladies who are at the heart of this latest CGI outing. Frozen is a light-hearted dramatic musical which excels in entertaining the masses. I’ve seen the early trailers and I had my reservations with Olaf the snowman being the primary source of comedic relief. But for me, it’s Sven the reindeer who warmed my heart right away!

J: Yes, Disney gets to add two more princesses (okay, technically one is a queen) to their merchandising empire. Queen Elsa (Idina Menzel) and Princess Anna (Kristen Bell) are thrust into premature power when their parents, the King and Queen of Arendelle meet with disaster. That leaves the sisters to rely on each other but Elsa becomes distant to prevent her sister from learning a secret that her parents successfully hid not only from the public but from Anna as well.

Mark Your Calendars for Star Wars VII! (confirmed) & Thoughts

December 18th is the day on the Calendar Year of 2015, Anno Domini for one of this galaxy’s greatest galactic battles to return. With the next chapter of Star Wars now set, the thrills are going to be great for some, but for others, its going to be a mad rush to get this done in time, and hopefully without some hiccups along the way. Budget movies can be done in under a year, but for Star Wars, is the three year development cycle going to be enough?

Filming is scheduled to begin Spring 2014 at Pinewood Studios, and casting calls are already out looking for new hopefuls to fill in some really big shoes. At least the people involved — J.J. Abrams (Super 8, Lost, Star Trek), Lawrence Kasdan (Raiders of the Lost Ark, Empire Strikes Back) and John Williams (with a resume too huge to list) — should get it right. The world will be according to what J.J. Abrams and Kasdan are wanting, instead of what Michael Arndt is intending. In a report by Slashfilm, “The script Michael Arndt was writing (likely based on George Lucas‘ original outline) is no longer in play.”

Whatever the plot will be, fans will no doubt flock to whatever is presented up. At least this time, Star Wars will not look like a tribute to lens flare-ology — one of J.J. Abrams trademark styles, which is thankfully being retired. Mercifully, the galaxy is not looking too bright; just like the film, it should be tailored to look just right.

Shakespeare & Star Wars Doth Not Necessarily Mix & Sequel News

With better dialogue in this film, maybe the Shakespearean treatment Verily A New Hope will not be as bad.

Verily A New HopeJust how easy is it to rewrite Star Wars into a Shakespearean play? To read the dialogue in iambic pentameter is one thing but to hear it is another. Until Disney (and George Lucas) authorizes Adam Long, one of the founding members of the Reduced Shakespeare Company, to release a DVD of his stage production of Star Wars Shortened, fans will have to make do with Ian Doescher’s take of William Shakespeare’s Star Wars: Verily A New Hope.Verily A New Hope At least the performance is super fun to watch and the other an undistinguished read.

The idea of getting Luke, Obi-Wan or Vader speaking in old Elizabethan English is more of a novelty than compelling reading. Most of the dialogue is required to stay in canon within the screenplay Lucas wrote for A New Hope. When possible, Doescher makes use of a few lines better known from Shakespere’s other plays and includes them in his book. Bits of familiar dialogue from the tragedy Hamlet and the romance Romeo & Juliet will be recognized.

Disney’s Frozen Full Movie Trailer Released & Analysis

The reindeer looks like the one who will really steal the show in the movie Frozen.

PosterLike a gentle snow flurry slowly making its way to cover the countryside, the full trailer for Disney’s Frozen finally arrives State-side (from the UK) to tell fans that this movie is coming November 27th, just in time for American Thanksgiving.

This full preview looks promising. It yields a few fantastic action sequences and a fairy-tale like adventure that will be sure to please audiences of all ages. Complete with the prerequisite second banana to provide the humour, at least some story formulas never change. This product is Disney after all. As for whether or not audiences will warm up to the idea or be icy, that will depend on the point of view.

Ant-Man Dated and Pirates of the Caribbean 5 Pushed Back

ant_man_art_a_lWill Ant-Man be a dead ant, if the reports from both Slash Film and The Hollywood Reporter are any indication?

Edgar Wright’s Marvel movie about a scientist, Henry Pym, discovering sub-atomic particles that can change a mass’ size can mean either high budget effects or lower than expectation scares in a busy summer movie month. The big question the industry folks are asking is how well will this movie perform in the middle of summer, now that this film has been pushed to July 31, 2015.

On this busy plate is Avengers: Age of Ultron on May 1, Inside Out on June 19, Pirates of the Caribbean 5 on July 10. No date has been set for Star Wars Episode VII.

But with todays news that PoTC being put on hold, there is finally some breathing room. But as for what that means for the mouse, are they overreaching themselves? Fortunately, they have the sense to pace all these blockbuster titles out throughout the next few years.

The next step for the Avengers to make may include Pym. But until phase 3 of the Avengers saga is developed, what’s next is only a version of the East Coast scene. Fans might end up seeing a formation of the West Coast Avengers to save the day!
