Following The Great Salish Heist and Where to Find Them

Following its Victoria Film Festival premiere, dates have been solidified for where The Great Salish Heist will play next. The team is expected to plan a East Coast venture sometime late Spring! You better watch out!

The Great Salish Heist is finally stretching its wings! Plans for a nationwide release have been methodical since its local premiere back in February, and it’s justified in order for it to succeed. This weekend will see it extend to other territories and from there, the sky’s the limit!

Here, viewers can witness what the plan is to protect some local treasures from sales overseas. But for Steve (Darrell Dennis), his idea is to calm the restlessness that not only he but also the spirits have. This story doesn’t get heavy with revealing how indigenous spirituality is important why this person is feeling haunted. Had there been more, I’d truly be hooked, as what’s presented is very light concerning hearing voices in their head and seeing things. Instead, this concept concerns protecting national treasures and presenting a more realistic picture.

Hopes and Dreams for the Future of Legendary Picture’s Monsterverse

It’s safe to say that not everyone wants more of Kong with Godzilla should the Monsterverse continue. Now that the film is leaving theatres, we offer some thoughts:

Godzilla King of the Monsters Movie PosterIf we’re supposed to believe all the Monsterverse films share the same DNA, then the slow reveal about an ancient civilization as Earth’s true guardians must hint at a greater plot. Now that the latest film Godzilla X King Kong is leaving theatres, I can offer some thoughts after repeated views. I’m willing to support this film franchise for so long, and hope it can be steered back to what it was.

When Gareth Edwards made his 2014 film, all he wanted to do was to make a movie that is a love letter to TOHO. His take had Yoshimitsu Banno‘s blessing and I’m sure the later instalments did not. This Japanese studio sent this director (best known for Godzilla vs Hedorah) to look at how Japan’s most iconic antihero, would be remade for American sensitivities. Back then, what he saw excited him. The idea of creating a shared universe didn’t happen right away and this film was considered a modest success before the King Kong movie revealed a greater concept. Michael Dougherty and Adam Wingard‘s take is decent enough where it made enough callbacks to the ol’ classic style, but it’s not as well thought out as Edward’s vision.

From the Tabletop to Comic Book. Arkham Horror: The Terror at the End of Time

Fans of the board game Arkham Horror can take delight in an adaptation that’s expanding the universe! Asmodee Entertainment and Dark Horse Comics have teamed up to present Arkham Horror: The Terror at the End of Time. It’s the first comic-based addition to Fantasy Flight Games product, and no previous knowledge is really required. If you’re a fan of H.P. Lovecraft, that’s all you need to recognise.

Two versions of the game exist. In the tabletop edition, players have to work together to stop multi-dimensional entities from arriving on Earth. There’s been three editions, and each are different in a bizarre way which mostly concerns the rules. The setting remains the same and as for the card game, that’s where the confusion begins! Some say it’s the same thing but in a trading card game format, but others argue there’s enough differences where it’s not. All they can agree on is that the end goal is the same. If all you want is the story, then the latter has a lot more expansion material. And to bring it all together, Eisner Award-nominated master of horror, Cullen Bunn (Harrow County, The Sixth Gun), will write the four-issue miniseries.

How The Inventor (2023) Seeks to Change the World, A Movie Review

Leonardo da Vinci’s life has been retold countless times from various perspectives, and not all of them are as charming and magical as this take, simply titled The Inventor!

Nearly everything you want to know but were afraid to ask about the last decades of Leonardo da Vinci’s life is charmingly examined in the stop-motion masterpiece, The Inventor. I couldn’t spot anything that’s worth critiquing on since it’s so perfect in keeping me entertained. Not only does it have an internal rhythm like a nursery rhyme to entertain kids, but also just most of his diagrams and art gets blended in are very dreamlike.

Its whimsical style is as eye-catching as a Cartoon Saloon movie, and without Stephen Fry, I’d probably pass on viewing it. He knows how to keep an audience engaged and is no stranger to providing character voices. When considering his huge resume (which includes The Canterville Ghost), he’s just everywhere, delighting audiences with his performances. The plot, if there is one, really concerns how The Maestro managed to stay out of trouble. Although this movie doesn’t recount his early life, just where it comes in is at the height of his desire to reform Western Civilization.

This event is great at showcasing films from this region and this year, the shorts program includes Armed with Camera, Digital Histories and Pacific Cinewaves. This helps attendees select what they like to see, and sewn into the fabric of each of these are many animated works and they will be my focus on my top ten works to see this year.

And also included are my top three picks of live-action feature length works.
