Behind the Mac and Magic: The Mystery of Skywalker Sound is Free to View

Available to watch on Apple’s YouTube channel is Behind the Mac: Skywalker Sound. This mini-documentary released today in honour of Star Wars Day

Behind the Mac Skywalker SoundAvailable to watch on Apple’s YouTube channel is Behind the Mac: Skywalker Sound. This mini-documentary released today in honour of Star Wars Day goes behind the scenes in what goes on in at this studio. We see more than how some of those magical sounds are made. We get insights into an aspect of the movie-making process that makes the filimed footage come alive.

Additionally, we see the technology used to fine tune the raw vibrations to what audiences hear in that film! Some of it may seem surprisingly low tech, but for the high, it’s no surprise Apples are used. Logic Pro is the software of choice at this studio. And from what I can notice, the servers look like they’re Apple G5s!

This video is a terrific watch to see how sound and image all gets put together. It may even perhaps inspire those who want to work in the movie-making industry to take up a position as a foley artist. Although some may argue Skywalker Sound desire to be fully digital will kill this position (please read my review of Actors of Sound here), I think this profession will be always be around in one form or another. Behind the Mac: Skywalker Sound nicely tells us why we need people who take ‘psycho acoustics’ seriously. They are the folks who’ll be out there in the natural and synthetic environment to record the next big thing. Who knows, maybe that sonic boom will be put in the next movie we’re about to see on the big screen.

Holofes 2022: Link Your Wish and Quick Review

To see these augmented reality performances for real had my curiousity, but I settled for the free online content which was satisfactory.

Hololive Super EXPOArchived on YouTube for a limited time. See below for links.

In Japan, Hololive held their annual Super Expo. It’s now into its third year and it took the Makuhari Messe Event Hall on March 19 and 20 by storm. There were two days worth of things to do at the venue, including a concert featuring many talents from the VTuber world. The company offered an in-person event and virtual show. I settled for what was made available to view for free (i.e. online) and am reviewing that content. As for what occured at the venue, what’s being summed up here is based on reports from those who attended.

A single day pass was 5,500 ($46 USD) and the weekend ticket was¥10,000 ($84 USD). With that price, I hoped this blog’s criticisms from before would be addressed. A few things did get changed, but other aspects remain the same for this augmented reality experience.

Want More X-Men? Keith Sutliff has The Story of Scott Summers Ready to Roll…

As for keeping up with how the X-Men evolved throughout the decades, from Uncanny to X-Treme to Astonishing to ResurrXion, it’s just become impossible since they’re not meant to overlap. Ask anyone if they’ve kept up. Most will say no, including Sutliff.

Coming Early April across multiple streaming platforms.

The Cyclops Chronicles: The Story of Scott Summers is a passion project for Keith Sutliff. He’s an actor and filmmaker who loves the X-Men universe that currently has nothing live-action in development. This particular IP is vast, and his plan with this character is to explore what motivates this leader in new ways that respects the lore and also be original at the same time.

He started up his own company, KS Pictures LLC in 2016, and was quick to establish himself in Hollywood, appearing in works from the Lifetime Channel when not producing or acting in independent works himself. Some of his past works include The Mason Brothers (2017). From the Internet Movie Database, The Hollywood Weekly Magazine recognized him as an emerging talent, and his next work, The Refuge (2019), showed where he wanted to go in this career as an entertainer. Coming this Summer is Suitcase City for sci-fi fans, but for comic book readers, he’s hoping his take on the leader of the X-Men will be one to talk about.

Sutliff acknowledges what he’s producing, starring in and directing is a fan film. He said, “The number one thing going into the film business and in Hollywood is you have to entertain.” The gamble with his work is in him making it free to view on YouTube. He’s not sure how many episodes will be made, but has a game plan should it go beyond three.

Mantic Games Hellboy RPG Unboxing and Wonder

Mantic Games is still shipping the Hellboy RPG to Kickstarter backers for the past week and a half, and yes, I got my copy! This unboxing video reveals what’s inside and more….

Mantic Games is still shipping the Hellboy RPG to Kickstarter backers for the past week and a half, and yes, I got my copy! The following video is my reaction to examining this product in under ten minutes, and I can’t wait to GM a session! I have friends interested in playing and I’ll need a week or two to learn the rules. A followup article is under consideration so I can provide a more in-depth analysis after we played the game. Stay tuned!

Addendum:

I opted not to pick up the miniatures that came with the next tier of this Hellboy RPG Kickstarter and have no regrets. It looks like most of them can be obtained directly from the publisher as part of the board game expansion products. A street release may be coming later in the year. To keep tabs on when this will become available, please visit the official website for the latest updates.

Update: May 1, 2022: B.P.R.D. Field Manual is an optional upgrade that, while available for all pledge levels, was deceptive in the item description; I thought I’d get it as one of the unlocked stretch goals but only as a digital file. I thought a print version could come along with mine, but it isn’t. It’s for GMs so they can design a game.
