Little Lucha and The Big Deal is Finally Streaming for that Front Row Experience!

An underdog wrestling tale steps into the spotlight as Little Lucha and The Big Deal begins streaming online. Blending 80s ring theatrics with heartfelt indie storytelling, the short celebrates creative struggle, partnership, and the fight to keep a dream alive.

Little Lucha and the Big Deal FacesFilmmakers Scarlet Moreno and Josh Stifter are stepping back into the ring as their short film, Little Lucha and the Big Deal, is finally available online. My review can be read here, and it’s a fun nostalgic romp to acknowledge the years when wrestling was more than an escape. It’s a way to recognize what goes on behind the ring. This short film that has lots of hear is now streaming exclusively on GeekTyrant.com (and Vimeo). We also have it linked to watch from the comfort of this post too.

Co-directed by and starring this duo, the short is a larger-than-life love letter to 80s era professional wrestling. The story follows aspiring superstar Little Lucha and his partner The Big Deal, two underdog performers chasing glory inside the ring while wrestling with the realities of life beyond the ropes. It’s a tale built on body slams, big dreams, and the emotional toll that comes with refusing to quit.

“Little Lucha and The Big Deal is one of the most heartfelt films I’ve been a part of creating,” said Moreno. “It’s got an ‘art mirrors life’ aspect for me as it’s a story of two people, nearly at the end of their ropes, doing everything in their power to make a dream come true. And what artist or creative doesn’t know that feeling?”

Unleashing Colum Eastwood’s The Morrigan. Just Who Is This Phantom Queen?

A slow-burn folk horror with teeth, The Morrigan reframes the goddess as something older and sharper than pop culture’s “wicked sorceress” shortcut. Through a mother and daughter caught in a modern system built to drain women dry, the film turns possession into sovereignty, and rebellion into something sacred and brutal.

The worship of the Morrígan is nearly as old as time, dating back to roughly 3000 BC. In terms of raw elemental power, she rivals a force like Gaia, the very breath and blood of the land itself. Yet, history has been unkind to her. In Irish lore, she was a terrifyingly complex sovereign; in modern literature, her role was flattened to fit the needs of the “wicked sorceress” trope. While pop culture often lazily grafts her onto Arthurian legend, those who hold The Mists of Avalon as the best may need to head back to school to “unlearn” the sanitized version of the goddess they’ve been sold.

Colum Eastwood’s expansion of his short film proves he’s done the homework. He frames the Morrígan not as a simple adversary, but as a goddess of death, regeneration, and rebirth. This is the core belief of Fiona (Saffron Burrows), a woman battling a modern world designed to “steal a lady’s thunder.” The film’s strongest thematic tissue lies in the parallel between the ancient and the modern: Fiona is reeling from a husband who has abandoned her and their daughter, Lily (Emily Flain), while being professionally bled dry by Professor Jonathan Horner (Jonathan Forbes). He is a leech who steals from his TAs while the world turns a blind eye.

Galaxy Express 999 The Complete — Who’s On Board to Ride This Cosmic Soul Train Again?

After decades of waiting, Galaxy Express 999 is finally making its full journey to Blu-ray. MediaOCD’s 113-episode release lets fans relive the classic odyssey of Tetsurō and Maetel in its complete, remastered form — no edits, no compromises.

Galaxy Express 999 The Complete TV Series

Available to preorder on Amazon USA

After decades of half-available sets, fuzzy fansubs, and waiting on stars to align in hopes there’s a complete set release than part, Galaxy Express 999 the animated series is officially making its full journey to Blu-ray. MediaOCD‘s online shop has listed this 113-episode TV series, and it’s ready to ride November 25, 2025! This title is from Discotek and it replaces prior releases which only offered part of the story.

For a certain generation, they most likely saw the theatrical version. There’s a lot of content deleted for a sleek take on a very melancholy tale. The train made dozens of stops, saw the characters like Tetsurō and Maetel slowly mature and Count Mecha—well, that’s a detail best not spoiled. And for many, they may well say this anime was when they were first introduced to Captain Harlock!

Black Jack — The Complete OVA is Set To Strike This December!

Osamu Tezuka’s legendary surgeon returns to the operating table as MediaOCD revives Black Jack — The Complete OVA Series in HD. Directed by Osamu Dezaki, this moody, gothic medical drama cuts deep into questions of morality, justice, and the human soul.

MediaOCDBlack Jack BD Cover has two animated works based on Osamu Tezuka’s past catalogue that will hit home video next year. There’s Black Jack — The Complete OVA Series which will release Dec 16, and sometime next year, A Time Slip of 10,000 Years: Prime Rose, as previously reported.

In revisiting this series, it’s hard not to think of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. Both characters are outcasts wielding their instruments of precision—scalpels and razors—as tools of both justice and transgression. Where Sweeney’s craft descends into vengeance, Tezuka’s rogue surgeon walks a more ambiguous line, dissecting not only flesh but the moral anatomy of humanity itself. The OVA’s moody, surgical-gothic tone channels the same sense of tragic artistry—each operation a question of what it truly means to save a life.

From the Press Release:

A riveting “Dr. House meets the X-Files” style medical drama based on the bestselling 1970s manga series by Osamu Tezuka, the Black Jack OVAs depict the adventures of a mysterious but extraordinarily talented physician who solves the most challenging medical cases…for a price. These episodes expanded the popular Black Jack anime franchise and were directed by the legendary Osamu Dezaki, a cofounder of Studio Madhouse. The OVAs were celebrated for breathtaking animation, drama, and use of innovative directing techniques.

Romeo’s Blue Skies Blu-ray Review: Why This Inspirational Anime Still Shines

Fans of World Masterpiece Theatre will delight in Romeo’s Blue Skies, now available on Blu-ray from MedicOCD/Animeigo’s Ruined Childhoods label.

Romeo's Blue Skies Bluray CaseFans of World Masterpiece Theatre’s series will find much to laugh, cry, and reflect on in Romeo’s Blue Skies. This second release from MedicOCD and Animeigo’s Ruined Childhoods label is a must-have for fans of Japanese adaptations of Western literary classics. After decades of hunting down VHS tapes or low-resolution downloads, I’m thrilled to finally have a clean, high-quality release. Early fan-subbed versions were incomplete or low fidelity, making this Blu-ray a long-awaited treasure.

Based on the 1941 novel Die Schwarzen Brüder (“The Black Brothers,” Amazon link) by Lisa Tetzner and Kurt Held, the story follows a kind-hearted boy growing up in 19th-century Switzerland. When his family falls into poverty, he is forced to sell himself to a man known as Luini, the “God of Death.” Instead of despair, his optimism and courage give the series a uniquely inspirational tone. Experiencing the story visually in full made it far more impactful than reading alone.

Five Sci-Fi and Fantasy Series 2025 to Look Forward To This Fall / Winter

Discover the top sci-fi and fantasy series 2025 to watch this fall and winter, from long-awaited finales to exciting new premieres on streaming.

Top sci-fi and fantasy series 2025With autumn in full swing in some parts of the world, the season brings a fresh wave of supernatural and sci-fi delights to television and streaming services. While some releases that started in August kind of counts, I must mention Alien: Earth along with Peacemaker. But for the official start of the season, here are five other sci-fi and fantasy series 2025 that I’m most looking forward to checking out this fall and winter.

And at long last, the much-anticipated finale of Secret Things is arriving—a conclusion that’s been years in the making. But I have to begin with:

Talamasca: The Secret Order (AMC)

Talamasca: The Secret Order key art — sci-fi and fantasy series 2025Premieres: October 26, 2025The Talamasca has long been whispered about in Anne Rice’s gothic novels, but this series finally puts them under the spotlight. As supernatural auditors, they keep tabs on vampires, witches, and all things that go bump in the night. On screen, that mix feels like The X-Files with rosaries and velvet capes. Launching just before Halloween, AMC is clearly betting that occult espionage and candlelit conspiracies will hook fans old and new.

Pluribus (Apple TV+)

Pluribus key art — sci-fi and fantasy series 2025Premieres: November 7, 2025 (two-episode launch)

From the team that gave us Severance comes a new nine-part series that promises to probe the ethics of power and technology. Pluribus looks polished, eerie, and loaded with allegory. If Black Mirror had a sibling that was less anthology and more serialized thriller, this would be it. With Apple’s knack for moody prestige sci-fi, this one could ignite serious water-cooler debates.

The Mighty Nein (Amazon Prime Video)

The Mighty Nein poster — sci-fi and fantasy series 2025Premieres: November 19, 2025

Critical Role isn’t slowing down. If The Legend of Vox Machina captured the spirit of high-energy campaigns, The Mighty Nein dives into murkier waters. This crew is scrappy, emotional, and gloriously messy—a perfect match for fans who like their fantasy tangled with moral ambiguity. Expect dazzling animation, sharp humour, and references that will reward long-time Critters while still staying friendly for newcomers to Exandria.

Returning Favourites

Stranger Things — Final Season (Netflix)

Stranger Things Season 5 poster — sci-fi and fantasy series 2025

Begins: November 26, 2025 (Volume 1)

The Hawkins saga has always been more than just monsters—it’s a love letter to the 80s, stitched together with friendship and nostalgia. The final season arrives in three parts, carrying fans through Thanksgiving, Christmas, and into New Year’s Eve. Few series have defined a decade of streaming like this one, and its conclusion is poised to be an event. Whether it sticks the landing alongside the greats remains to be seen, but one thing’s certain: Stranger Things is ending on its own terms, fireworks and all.

Marvel Zombies (Disney+)

Marvel Zombies poster — sci-fi and fantasy series 2025Premieres: September 24, 2025

The Marvel multiverse takes a grotesque detour as Earth’s mightiest heroes become flesh-eating nightmares. With returning MCU voice talent, this isn’t just a side story—it’s Marvel embracing horror. The art style is bloodier, the tone darker, and for fans of the original comic run, this is long overdue.

Honourable Mentions: Network TV

Streaming dominates the landscape for bold sci-fi and fantasy, but a few network shows still merit a glance for casual genre fans. These are ongoing series:

  • Ghosts (CBS) – A supernatural comedy blending humor with light ghostly adventures, perfect for fans looking for something fun without diving too deep into horror.
  • La Brea (NBC) – A sci-fi mystery exploring a massive sinkhole in Los Angeles that leads to a prehistoric world. It’s tense, adventurous, and network-friendly.

For those of us who grew up relying on network TV for our weekly dose of adventure and intrigue, it’s worth noting just how much the landscape has shifted. The Big Three—ABC, NBC, and CBS—no longer offer the kind of bold, imaginative programming that once made shows like Magnum P.I. or Simon & Simon must-watch staples. Today, if you want daring sci-fi, supernatural thrills, or morally complex fantasy, streaming platforms are where the innovation lives. That’s why this season’s lineup of AMC, Netflix, Apple TV+, Disney+, and Prime Video originals is so exciting—they’re taking risks and telling stories that network TV simply can’t.
