Discotek Deep Dives Revives AnimEigo’s Catalogue of Classics!

Long-out-of-print #Anime titles from the 90s are returning thanks to Discotek Deep Dives, offering collectors a chance to skip inflated resale prices.

Discotek Deep DivesAs older North American anime DVD releases from the 90s become harder to find for collectors and fans of this era, nobody really wants to pay the higher prices listed on eBay. Thankfully, DISCOTEK DEEP DIVES aims to correct that. MediaOCD has now partnered up with this company to offer their home media catalog for direct purchase. These releases are transfers rather than full remasters, and the current list shows they won’t be limited to AnimEigo titles. Additional releases will also come from defunct distributors such as Manga Corps.

Black Jack Is No Bleak Phantom of the Opera, He Cuts for Compassion

Often mistaken for a cold, enigmatic figure, Black Jack is anything but heartless. This updated OVA release reveals a doctor driven by compassion, challenging rigid medical institutions and reminding us that empathy can matter as much as expertise.

Black Jack Blu-ray
Available to purchase on Amazon USA

Released Dec 16, 2025

MediaOCD has taken a careful, almost surgical approach in updating Black Jack, the OVA series, treating it less like a nostalgia item and more like an essential entry point for a classic manga series that many viewers may have missed reading. Alongside a revised song translation, this release restores the two episodes absent from earlier editions and makes a clear effort to remaster the material for modern digital viewing.

For anyone unfamiliar with the property, this set finally presents the series as a complete experience. I’ll also include a brief guide at the end to help newcomers understand how this fits into the wider world of Osamu Tezuka’s work and the many versions of his famously unconventional doctor, Kurō Hazama.

Before Naruto (both the manga and anime), there was Sasuke. This story about a young wandering ninja who lives by his own code, drifting from village to village to do heroics, shows that he has nothing to lose and everything to gain. He’s a hero to many, and this work marks a shift from youth-focused tales to more mature graphic novellas.

This hero’s epic journey was created by Sanpei Shirato, best known for his Legend of Kamui series. It was originally published as a manga before becoming an animated series. For those who haven’t read one but want to see the other, you’re not missing much; by episode seven, all the essential introductions are covered and newcomers understand what drives this boy. After his home is destroyed, a monk takes him in and teaches him the way of the ninja, and the lad soon discovers the rivalries and hypocrisies around him.

Galaxy Express 999 The Complete TV Series

Available to preorder on Amazon USA

After decades of half-available sets, fuzzy fansubs, and waiting on stars to align in hopes there’s a complete set release than part, Galaxy Express 999 the animated series is officially making its full journey to Blu-ray. MediaOCD‘s online shop has listed this 113-episode TV series, and it’s ready to ride November 25, 2025! This title is from Discotek and it replaces prior releases which only offered part of the story.

For a certain generation, they most likely saw the theatrical version. There’s a lot of content deleted for a sleek take on a very melancholy tale. The train made dozens of stops, saw the characters like Tetsurō and Maetel slowly mature and Count Mecha—well, that’s a detail best not spoiled. And for many, they may well say this anime was when they were first introduced to Captain Harlock!

Black Jack — The Complete OVA is Set To Strike This December!

Osamu Tezuka’s legendary surgeon returns to the operating table as MediaOCD revives Black Jack — The Complete OVA Series in HD. Directed by Osamu Dezaki, this moody, gothic medical drama cuts deep into questions of morality, justice, and the human soul.

MediaOCDBlack Jack BD Cover has two animated works based on Osamu Tezuka’s past catalogue that will hit home video next year. There’s Black Jack — The Complete OVA Series which will release Dec 16, and sometime next year, A Time Slip of 10,000 Years: Prime Rose, as previously reported.

In revisiting this series, it’s hard not to think of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. Both characters are outcasts wielding their instruments of precision—scalpels and razors—as tools of both justice and transgression. Where Sweeney’s craft descends into vengeance, Tezuka’s rogue surgeon walks a more ambiguous line, dissecting not only flesh but the moral anatomy of humanity itself. The OVA’s moody, surgical-gothic tone channels the same sense of tragic artistry—each operation a question of what it truly means to save a life.

From the Press Release:

A riveting “Dr. House meets the X-Files” style medical drama based on the bestselling 1970s manga series by Osamu Tezuka, the Black Jack OVAs depict the adventures of a mysterious but extraordinarily talented physician who solves the most challenging medical cases…for a price. These episodes expanded the popular Black Jack anime franchise and were directed by the legendary Osamu Dezaki, a cofounder of Studio Madhouse. The OVAs were celebrated for breathtaking animation, drama, and use of innovative directing techniques.

Romeo’s Blue Skies Blu-ray Review: Why This Inspirational Anime Still Shines

Fans of World Masterpiece Theatre will delight in Romeo’s Blue Skies, now available on Blu-ray from MedicOCD/Animeigo’s Ruined Childhoods label.

Romeo's Blue Skies Bluray CaseFans of World Masterpiece Theatre’s series will find much to laugh, cry, and reflect on in Romeo’s Blue Skies. This second release from MedicOCD and Animeigo’s Ruined Childhoods label is a must-have for fans of Japanese adaptations of Western literary classics. After decades of hunting down VHS tapes or low-resolution downloads, I’m thrilled to finally have a clean, high-quality release. Early fan-subbed versions were incomplete or low fidelity, making this Blu-ray a long-awaited treasure.

Based on the 1941 novel Die Schwarzen Brüder (“The Black Brothers,” Amazon link) by Lisa Tetzner and Kurt Held, the story follows a kind-hearted boy growing up in 19th-century Switzerland. When his family falls into poverty, he is forced to sell himself to a man known as Luini, the “God of Death.” Instead of despair, his optimism and courage give the series a uniquely inspirational tone. Experiencing the story visually in full made it far more impactful than reading alone.
