After decades of half-available sets, fuzzy fansubs, and waiting on stars to align in hopes there’s a complete set release than part, Galaxy Express 999 the animated series is officially making its full journey to Blu-ray. MediaOCD‘s online shop has listed this 113-episode TV series, and it’s ready to ride November 25, 2025! This title is from Discotek and it replaces prior releases which only offered part of the story.

For a certain generation, they most likely saw the theatrical version. There’s a lot of content deleted for a sleek take on a very melancholy tale. The train made dozens of stops, saw the characters like Tetsurō and Maetel slowly mature and Count Mecha—well, that’s a detail best not spoiled. And for many, they may well say this anime was when they were first introduced to Captain Harlock!

For those who’ve never boarded the 999 before: imagine Moby Dick rewritten by a philosopher-astronomer who dreams in starlight. Our young protagonist is orphaned and desperate to escape a cold mechanised Earth. After meeting the mysterious woman in black, they travel from planet to planet toward the promised “Machine Body,” and a chance at immortality. What follows isn’t just adventure, but reflection—a long meditation on what it means to trade your humanity for eternity.

This set marks the first time the entire series has been packaged together in North America. It’s a 9-disc, 1080p HD collection (4:3 aspect ratio) with Japanese audio and English subtitles. As for bonus material, the listings suggests a bare-bones release. What makes this release different is in offering the series in full rather than in parts, which was how it was sold before. This way, fans can get to experience the ride in full rather than separately.

The set’s listed at $149.95 USD (currently on sale for $119.96 USD through the MediaOCD site) and is available for preorder now.

For fans of Space Battleship Yamato, Captain Harlock, or anyone who’s ever stared up at the night sky wondering if humanity’s story could ever truly end—this is one to mark on the calendar. November’s going to be a beautiful month for dreamers, especially when the skies get darker, and on those clear nights, one can see Orion on the hunt, and everyone is seeking an understanding in what life means. Even with the continuation, what’s presented is best shown here:
