Out Come the Wolves and They Don’t Sing

Although Out Come the Wolves is no game-changer in this mix-genre effort, at least the finale will leave you breathless.

Out Come The Wolves Movie Poster
Now playing at select theatres and on VOD (Google Play, Apple TV, and YouTube)

No one wanted to let the dogs out too soon in a film titled Out Come the Wolves. While the first moments looked terrific, to transition to a story about a woman having to decide between two men, well, do I really want to know? In a film that’s about who is the alpha, this movie is easy to predict. I fast forwarded to the juicy bits concerning what I think about Sophie (Missy Peregrym). She doesn’t need any man in her life, and the fact she can fend for herself says it all!

And when she has to decide who to save in the wilderness, her fiancé Nolan (Damon Runyan) who is a jerk for much of the film, or her friend that she knew for most of her life, Kyle (Joris Jarsky), I won’t spoil that detail. And while I’m not one for films about love triangles as the primary focus, the thought of someone might go feral had me curious about this work.

Although Lassie A New Adventure isn’t Set in America, The Love Continues through European Markets

Thankfully, this canine isn’t completely forgotten in the cinematic lexicon. We just have to search for Lassie A New Adventure as they continue in foreign markets.

VOD Release Date: July 15, 2024 (UK), TBA (USA)

I’m not sure if this is a fair assessment, but it seems the entertainment industry in Germany is more open to continue certain iconic properties which lost their stride after the 70s. Whether that’s with The Three Investigators or Lassie, what I’m enjoying from Lassie: A New Adventure is that it does something new I’m fairly sure I haven’t seen before. I have some recall about those classics that played on television a long time ago, and to mix it up with a heist makes for some good action.

Back then, those classics simply concerned a boy and his best friend getting separated. Whether that’s by design or some other circumstance, they’d find each other, hug and we have that happy ending. Although the writing was quite formulaic, most kids didn’t care and just enjoyed the wholesome fun that these works represented.

Lassie and Flo

In this latest outing, all of that charm is well-preserved. Life goes on. The family is visiting Gran Canaria and everything seems fine. Flo (Nico Marischka) makes new friends, Kleo (Anna Lucia Gualano) and Henri (Pelle Staacken), and all is good until various pets disappear. Pretty soon, this trio go poking their nose around, and when Lassie and Pippa get taken, they’re on the case! I’m rather glad this film is not dependent on the familiar. To get them involved in a case like sleuths makes for a better sequel.

When The Exorcism is Better on VOD than at the Movies

Just who is worse, a person carrying a lot of guilt, or a demon that an embodiement of is the focus in The Exorcism. It just needs more than a single watch to recognise it.

The Exorcism 2024 Movie PosterNow available on VOD

Russell Crowe must love playing priests. After The Pope’s Exorcistand appearing in three other movies in between, he’s now in The Exorcism. This latest is a slow burn which sees him as an alcoholic actor who thinks he can do what’s right by trying to reconnect with his daughter (played by Ryan Simpkins) while at work. Unfortunately, he really does not know what he’s getting himself into! Casting this actor is the perfect choice, since he looks totally burnt out.

Despite a spooky introduction where an unsuspecting actor gets hurt in a faked haunted movie set, everyone remains oblivious. It’s a great start to what looks like an homage to The Exorcist, but everything that follows is the opposite. Much of the film is a slow burn.

There’s No What IF, But Rather A Why It’s Best To Remain Forever Young

The best thing about IF is that it makes a lot of callbacks to familiar IPs without directly saying these imaginary friends are them.

IF (2024) Movie PosterStill playing at theatres and available on VOD

Unless the film buff hasn’t seen the promotional material for IF, not everyone will know it’s short for an imaginary friend. And just why they have this nickname is that once they’ve lost their way, their connection with the person who created him/her/it can threaten its existence, and that being will fade away.

Just why this matters in John Krasinski‘s delightful film is that it’s about how to remain true, but yet understand why facing adversity matters.

Taking a Peek into Ghostbusters Frozen Empire’s Digital and Home Distribution Plans

Summer is almost here to justify the release of Ghostbusters Frozen Empire, which debuted back in March, and we got deets on what else is included.

Ghostbusters Frozen Empire is now out on VOD, and fans don’t have to wait for any home video release for the bonus material. Although I can jump onto the digital bandwagon anytime, I’ll still hold out for the physical product because what’s teased (according to unofficial sources) sounds good.

The sizzle reel that’s been released makes me believe the look behind the scenes in making the ghosts come alive look good. It’s not like the early days of ILM where they had in Raiders of the Lost Ark, dolls with loose fabric attached to it and its put into a fishtank filled with water to make those strands appear to swim in the air. I seem to recall the same concept was used in the making of Poltergeist too, and the designs seem to share a common DNA.

Ghostbusters Behind the Scenes

The following videos are available to stream alongside the film and be included in the home video release:

GoGoGo Speed Racer on Digital and VOD!

Fans of anime from the golden age will be happy Speed Racer is accessible from any and all platforms next month.

Speed Racer on VODAlthough FUNimation’s home video release of Speed Racer is long out of print, fans of classic anime can rejoice! Shout! Studios have it ready for an online release beginning June 1, 2024. It’ll be available on various digital platforms and also as video-on-demand.

Myself, I’m hoping that what Emile Hirsch has been teasing two months ago with wanting the live-action adaptation back on screens (or on 4k) might shed light soon. This movie by The Wachowskis have earned cult status, and even I’m begging for it.  Perhaps after this release, we’ll get more information since there’s a contingent of fans wanting to scratch that nostalgia itch in more ways than one.
