That’s No Moon! (It’s a Star Wars Musical)

By James Robert Shaw (The Wind up Geek)

BrophyThere is nothing like a good geek musical to get the lovers of all things comic book, cinema and anime into an enclosed space. I’ve seen The Addams Family, Harry Potter, Batman (excuse me, Bat Man) and Sailor Moon (I’m going to hear about this one). But recently I’ve seen a Star Wars musical by Brophy Student Theatre out of Brophy College Prepatory in Phoenix, Arizona. Brophy Student Theatre wrote, directed and performed That’s No Moon! (It’s a Star Wars Musical). Admission price to a performance was one canned food item. All canned goods were donated to Phoenix’s food banks.

This same theatre group with Xavier College Prepatory students wrote and performed PokéMusical in 2013, a musical based on the Pokémon brand.

That’s No Moon Takes fans of Star Wars through the original trilogy (yes, Ewoks included).

The individual cast members have their shine times but I ask that you to pay close attention to the mimicry of Sedona Urias-Ramonett as C-3PO.

Directed by: Jacob Browning, Jeremiah Johnson, and Phillip Rappa
Book and Lyrics: Jeremiah Johnson and Phillip Rappa
Music: Phillip Rappa
Additional Music: Jacob Browning

The Vintage Tempest’s Emerald City Comic Con Journal 2014

I am not fast enough to run around like Speedy Gonzales and absorb the fun Emerald City Comic Con offers all in one go. Comics, cinema and ‘toons are my life — to spend a good part of the con getting to meet my favourite artists, creators and television/movie stars spanning decades meant doing a lot of prioritizing.

Emerald City Comic ConBy Ed Sum (The Vintage Tempest)

To get my nerd on depends on when I have time to drain my thoughts out and process them like Dumbledore in front of his Pensieve. With Emerald City Comic Con in Seattle, Washington, the experience is mind-blowing. I started going to this show in 2012 and I knew I had to make attending an annual pilgrimage — or rather a tradition! When this event has grown to have its events and exhibits housed in three buildings and multiple floors, just what can one guy do?

I am not fast enough to run around like Speedy Gonzales and absorb all the fun this convention offers in one go. Comics, cinema and ‘toons are my life — to spend a good part of the con getting to meet my favourite artists, creators and television/movie stars spanning decades meant doing a lot of prioritizing. Looking for back-issues of Marvels, DC’s and Independents were the furthest things from my mind. In fact, two-thirds of my time was spent in the main Exhibit Hall gleaming little tidbits of information about what’s coming in comic or cartoon land. Yes, a Fall of Cthulhu Omnibus collection is coming (hopefully by the end of the year), and the next Transformers cartoon will focus on the antics of Bumblebee.

[San Francisco, CA] A Hero & Transformation for a Day: Bat-Kid vs Leukemia

By Ed Sum (The Vintage Tempest)

caped crusader gets a Bat-Kid

Just how often can anyone get to be a superhero? There are plenty of regular heroes working everyday to keep a city safe from crime and crisis. There are even all those television reality shows that showcases people with extraordinary abilities, but perhaps the real troopers are those who are fighting a daily battle with certain diseases that are still tough to defeat. To see them stay positive throughout the ordeal is what makes them the Über-hero: 5-year old Miles Scott is fighting leukemia and his wish is to become Bat-Kid with all the perks associated with it.

With the help of the Make-a-Wish Foundation: San Francisco Chapter and the guidance of Batman, Miles will get to hang out with his hero and learn how to fight crime. And on November 15th, the City of San Francisco is going to transform into Gotham. This new dynamic duo will save a damsel-in-distress and prevent a super criminal from executing a heinous crime. A nefarious criminal has plans on stealing Lou Seal, the baseball mascot of the San Francisco Giants.
