One Fan’s Response to Variety’s Report About 3D in Cinema–It’s Dead

To 3D or not to 3D is the question some viewers may have now that pandemic concerns have abaded. But does anyone want it?

Imax 3D CinemaSubscribers to Variety Magazine and fans of the 3D film medium will no doubt want to read Carolyn Giardina’s report where the “Summer Movie Season [will be] Testing 3D Cinema’s Recoverability.” But as for whether that’s happening everywhere, I’ve noticed that my local movie theatre chain is close to abandoning the format unless it’s a blockbuster. As far as advance ticket sales are indicating what’s available, I’m not seeing any listings.

The only film listed is The Garfield Movie, and it’s a product not worth paying more for. If this activity is indeed happening, I imagine that they are only occurring at major metropolises where numbers matter instead of small towns. Whether fans of this medium want it back, the next few months will be telling. Ever since Covid-19 struck, the fear of getting the virus any which way depends on how much of a germ phobia one has. I firmly believe this fad is just that; and it’s finished running its course.

On Stacey Tenenbaum’s Scrap, Tricks for Reuse and Where to Watch It.

Stacey Tenenbaum believes losing a lot of our history and cultural memory when things in our lives are simply scrapped rather than being preserved in her documentary.

Stacey Tenenbaum has been touring Canada during Waste Reduction Week, and attending special screenings of her documentary, Scrap, to answer those questions about what it means to not only recycle, but also explain humanity’s relationship with the objects made long ago. It’s not about reusing what’s found in a scrapyard for a movie, like Mad Max: Fury Road, or finding new uses of smaller industrial objects, like steampunk cosplay. I’m sure people scour the junkyards for those antiques needed when a film or tv show requires something from a bygone age when it can’t be found in an antique store.

But there’s more to this movie than meets the eye in terms of how old junk is reused. They have longetivity to them, and that’s one key thing to remember. Also, some of these items do more than bring out feelings of nostalgia. Also, there’s an intrinsic beauty not everyone can recognise. Whether it’s to be used in installation art or for residing in, I adored every careful possibility that’s been put into this work.

Van Isle Comic Convention, June 9th! at Sidney by the Sea

Van Isle ConventionThe third annual Van Isle Comic Convention is taking place June 9th and it promises to continue in the tradition of focusing on industry talents than star power.

Headliner Nick Kondo of Sony Picture’s ImageWorks will be present to talk about Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse and perhaps hint at what’s next. Celebrity power is creeping in slowly; Two former Power Rangers (Blake Foster, Turbo, and Michael Sowell, Timeforce) are going to talk about their time in their role as Blue Power Ranger. No martial arts demonstrations from them are scheduled as most fans know those sequences were put in from original Japanese footage. This franchise’s staying power has made stars out of many and they delight in meeting fans.
