Not the Same Ol’ Song. Ghostbusters: Back in Town Instead of Cleanin’ Up….

Dark Horse Comics loves their supernatural, and it’s only natural they’re continuing the story based the film. Ghostbusters: Back in Town is sure to appease fans looking for that bridge for next year’s sequel!

Ghostbusters: Back in Town Dark Horse Comics

If you haven’t heard about this news yet, then now is the time to prepare for another publisher to provide some equally fun and exciting action, Ghostbusters style! Usually, IDW Publishing offers up these mini-series, but in March 2024, all of that is going to change! I’m excited to read Ghostbusters: Back in Town. It looks like they’re taking a cue from Stranger Things and as that franchise winds down, this publisher is looking ahead and will focus on all new adventures for the team– and that’s terrific!

The other publisher is better known for its more cartoon style presentation and to have a work that’s entirely different is very welcomed!

Maybe Ghostbusters Spirits Unleashed Needs Other DLCs to Keep Gamers Going

The update to Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed gives us gamers a few new things. The latest map reminds me of Riverview, an abandoned and haunted mental health facility in Coquitlam, BC.

Ghostbusters Spirits UnleashedWith the latest tweaks to IllFonic’s Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed and a bit of new content that’s not technically a full on DLC, I can return to this game. It was released late October, in time for the Halloween crowd, but unless you put your name down for a copy, it was hard to find a physical copy during that month.

When I eventually got it gifted to me during holiday break and I sat down to play, the difficulty level was just crazy. The missions can’t be won solo because the AI bots aren’t all that helpful. Gamers need to depend on real life teammates in LAN parties or online to succeed. To catch that pesky ghost requires cooperation and communication rather than waiting for the next case to goop all over them. When news of a DLC was announced, I hoped it included some essential fixes.

Thankfully, it’s not important to achieve victory since after so many missions, the cut scenes will show up to move the story along. But as for that wish-list, none of the improvements spiritually manifested.

Anyone who has seen Ghostbusters: Afterlife will know how the business will carry on. Winston Zeddemore is ready to revitalize the business, and we hear his voice in the announce trailer for Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed.

There’s also the return of another fond character. This game sets up what’s next for the team, but if Phoebe is around, this video is not saying. Instead, it’s getting gamers hyped up to test their abilities–or rather be in their shoes–in what’s coming up next. They better not be slimed. IllFonic is the studio behind this first person shooter, and they’re aiming for an end of year release to continue the tale!

Afterthoughts on Ghostbusters Afterlife

Not everyone from the original films returned to appear in Ghostbusters: Afterlife. One is Louis Tully (Rick Moranis) and the other is the titular Slimer.

Heavy Spoiler Alert

Not everyone from the original films returned to appear in Ghostbusters Afterlife. Two characters we didn’t get to see Louis Tully (Rick Moranis) and the other is the titular Slimer. The former is understandable as the actor retired a long time ago, to take care of his kids when his wife sadly passed. Though they’re older now, and Moranis has done a few voice-over roles, to convince him to appear on screen requires more than being friends with Ryan Reynolds or what Sony / Columbia Pictures can offer.

Regarding why he declined to appear in the 2016 film, “I hope it’s terrific. But it just makes no sense to me. Why would I do just one day of shooting on something I did 30 years ago?” he said to The Hollywood Reporter in 2015. His reasoning can apply to this 2020/21 film (delayed due to the pandemic).

It’s A Bold New Ghostbusters Afterlife

Ghostbusters: The Video Game (2009) is an unofficial third film that’s fun to play and perhaps was a massive influence to the events occuring in Ghostbusters Afterlife

Lightning cracks from dark green clouds. People get out of a battered 1959 Cadillac Miller-Meteor Sentinel below and look on.Spoiler Alert

The first Ghostbusters film is a beloved introduction to a ragtag group of scientists kicked out of university for their questionable belief in ghosts. And when they gathered enough spectral data to realize its possible to contain these spirits, this gang turn their idea into a business since they are considered ‘pests.’ With Ghostbusters Afterlife, that story continues.

To recap the first film,  the lovely Dana Barrett hired this team to figure out why her apartment is spook central, and the god they prevented from appearing closed off the movie. Paranormal activity still took place throughout New York State, but it wouldn’t really pick up again until five years have passed.

It wasn’t until Ray Stantz, Egon Spengler, Peter Venkman and Winston Zeddemore had to deal with the spirit of a mad despot trapped in a painting when things truly quieted down. Spengler wasn’t ready to rest and even after this case, he knew there was a grande scheme happening while his teammates believed it was over. Flash forward to Ghostbusters: Afterlife, not everyone remembers the events from decades ago and we see him out on his own, dealing with a huge supernatural threat.
