B: The Beginning is coming Oct 20th!

B the Beginning Box Collection 2From the renowned animation powerhouse Production I.G.(Psycho-Pass, Ghost in the Shell, Attack on Titan) and director Kazuto Nakazawa (Parasite Dolls, animation director of Kill Bill: Vol. 1) comes the popular action suspense anime series, B: THE BEGINNING.

Directed by Nakazawa and Yoshinobu Yamakawa (Little Busters!), this gripping, character-driven crime procedural uniquely blends the visual marvel of anime, dystopian sci-fi supernatural fantasy, and gritty mystery narrative in equal measures. The series music is composed by Yoshihiro Ike (Blood: The Last Empire, Tiger & Bunny), with the theme song provided by former Megadeth guitarist Marty Friedman.

Wilson Yip’s work in the fictional biography of Ip Man is getting a box set! Not only will it feature all four films (previously released as separate films by Well Go USA) featuring Donnie Yen in the titular role, but also we’ll be getting the much needed featurettes that should help fill in the gaps that the cinematic treatment doesn’t touch on.

In the fourth film, which I reviewed a few months ago here, Ip Man lands in San Francisco to help ease tensions between the local Kung Fu masters and an up and coming talent, Bruce Lee. However, there’s more than just tensions between keeping Chinatown in peace. There’s problems with other locals; when the military gets involved, the xenophobic tensions can almost speak for the current situation going on presently between the White House, China and COVID-19.

Coming Nov 12th, 2019 is Spirited Away Collector’s Edition!

Spirited AwayStudio Ghibli and GKIDS, with distribution by Shout! Factory, will issue Spirited Away in a beautiful collector’s edition release on November 12, 2019. Marvel Comic’s Blade and Shang-Chi will never hold a candle to the Divine Fury (사자), a South Korean film which looks like it can upend any supernatural mixed martial art blockbuster any time of this and the next decade. The reason is that it has a solid grounding in creating a hero and it does not waste a whole ton of time (a whole film) doing so. Yong-hu (Park Seo-Joon) lost his father, a police officer who got injured on duty. As a child, he prayed hard to God; he didn’t want papa to die. Sadly, reality bites and he lost his faith.

Twenty years have passed and this young man channelled his anger in his rise to become a champion fighter. He has everything, but he’s still feeling empty inside. When a stigmata forms, he doesn’t know what it means or what to do; he hopes Father Ahn (Sung-Ki Ahn) can provide answers. Instead, what he stumbles into leads into discovering an evil force wants to make a foothold in our reality.

Landing on Shout! Factory’s Lap is Space: 1999 – Details on Blu-Ray Release

Just when fans os Gerry and Sylvia Anderson‘s epic sci-fi series, Space: 1999 thought the 30th Anniversary Edition was enough, Shout! Factory is doing one better with their upcoming release, coming July 16, 2019.

Six new features will be added which looks at the past and future of this series. The Surround sound remix has me intrigued and I’m tempted to pick up the entire series all over again. For Blu-ray enthusiasts, this version will mean fewer discs to flip (there’s 13 versus 18) when compared to the original.

New interviews with director Kevin Connor, actors Barbara Bain and Nick Tate, and new audio commentaries will be in this set, and for those wanting a keepsake, a snow globe is included! It has the Eagle Transporter landing on the Moon and this set is available for pre-order now at shoutfactory.com. The globe itself has a 4-inch circumference and sits on a 2-inch base.

Star Trek: Deep Space 9 Documentary Comes to Home Video!

If you are a huge Deep Space Nine Fan like me, trying to find a local theatre playing this documentary about this show is difficult. Not every town will offer it. Thankfully, Shout! Factory is releasing this product to home video so those who are looking for that love letter from outer space can get it. In what I believe made this series work is that directors Ira Steven Behr (showrunner) and David Zappone (producer of For the Love of Spock, The Captains) were on board for all seven seasons. Their vision never waned!

They are two of the many names who look back at What We Left Behind: Looking Back at Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.  It’s a fascinating in-depth look at the past, present, and future of a series whose dark, edgy take on Gene Roddenberry’s vision was often misunderstood when it premiered but has grown into a beloved mainstay in the Star Trek franchise, What We Left Behind will be available August 6, 2019 on Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital, as well as a Shout! Factory exclusive two-disc Special Edition Blu-ray.
