Is Sonic the Hedgehog Two or Three Times the Coming Thing?

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Movie PosterIn the sequel to Sonic the Hedgehog, the speedster lost his world to a war between different animal tribes. The first film revealed how his owl guardian sent him off to another planet to stay safe, like Superman. The humans he’s met–Tom (James Marsden) and Maddie Wachowski (Tika Sumpter)–became his surrogate parents.

Sonic doesn’t have the chops for super heroics in the introduction. It’s easy to tell he (fondly voiced by Ben Schwartz) takes after the heroes from the comic books he reads, like the aforementioned crusader and The Flash from the DC universe. Alternatively, he’s even like Quicksilver in 20th Century Studios’ X-Men (prequel) cinematic universe. The visual reminders are needed since not everyone will remember the visual direction and story arc the first film sets up. This sequel takes place a few months after.

Commander Walters (Tom Butler) is back and the reason behind one of the subplots. All the key supporting characters return as they play a role in either Sonic’s well being or wanting to study his power.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Early Access & Final Trailer

Ticket Sales begin in Canada March 21st.

Out of all the movies coming in April, the sequel to Sonic the Hedgehog is perhaps the most exciting. Paramount Pictures is accelerating plans by offering to fans Early Access screenings in select cities, and if its playing at a theatre near you, run, don’t walk to it. There’s plenty to get excited for in the final trailer drop for this film, and we’ll see Jim Carrey in all his early glory as Doctor Robotnik, and a teamup with Knuckles, the rival to the blue speedster.

Video Game to Movie Adaptations ‘Uncharted’ Future…

Right now, Uncharted is no better than the Tomb Raider reboot, and I’m still waiting for news about where that other franchise is going.

Uncharted: New Movie Poster and Images Revealed - IGNNow Playing in Theatres

Tom Holland still has his Spider abilities when playing Nathan Drake in the live action adaptation of the video game Uncharted and it doesn’t help make this film exciting. He’s still Peter Parker at heart and unless he can play against typecast, it’ll be difficult to see him play anything else.

Fandom has forgotten about the fan-film with Nathan Fillion as the lead. The screenplay by Rafe Lee Judkins, Art Marcum and Matt Holloway acknowledges the game in a way which I don’t recall from the games and it just feels odd. The cinematic take considers how maps can point to treasure and quite often, that’s not the case. It can lead to disaster, or perhaps to landing in Davy Jone’s Locker. In this movie’s case, it’s about setting up Nathan (Holland) and Victor Sullivan’s (Mark Wahlberg) relationship and how it’d play out when they’re in the field. These two aren’t exactly perfect for each other.

All Work and No Play in Monster Hunter: Legends of the Guild

No knowledge of the Monster Hunter franchise is required as this story is a classic hero’s journey in disguise.

Not everyone can be a Monster Hunter, and if Legends of the Guildis any indication, this animated take makes for a better introduction than the dry live-action one from last year. Not everyone has to know the video game world, and this film does a better job at introducing the basics. Ever since its release in 2004, this franchise created by Capcom has its loyal cult following.

By going full CGI, this film has a lot more to like. The world is a lot more alive when compared to the live-action and the bringing together of characters from the games will certainly be a draw for those who know the IP in and out.

Blizzard’s Overwatch Rides a Dark Horse!

Reading this comic makes me wish the Overwatch franchise expand to puzzle solving and RPG style territory over more shoot-em ups. This comic’s tie-in to the last seasonal video game content gives gamers that narration to understand what’s going on. For non-gamers, perhaps a prologue is needed.

Spoiler Alert

Blizzard’s hit video game Overwatch now has a much expected print version in a comic book! I’m sure the title of this series London Calling is intentional, as Tracer’s time as an agent seems over. The official summary says, “Five years after the ratification of the Petras Act, she now tends to small-scale crimes as a part-time hero. But when a punk-rock omnic named Iggy shows Tracer the dire living conditions that have been forced upon London’s omnics, Tracer becomes determined to help in any way possible—even if it puts her back in the crosshairs.”

It’s easy to find the cinematics and follow some parts of the story online. Keeping up when I’m not regularly playing the game is tough, especially when my interests are all over the place! I love the costumes from this universe and the Patlabor type landscape. The characters are just as cool too. Unfortunately, I suck at first-person shooters. My reflexes and shooting skills aren’t great and the nausea I get from fast frame rates from the FPS perspective gets to me after ten minutes.
