From Comic to Film Finally! Cerebus the Aardvark and Where to Find Him

Cerebus the Aardvark is very grey and furry–often very grumpy–and that won’t stop him from dealing with Necross the Mad and Elron. Although some viewers of this indie work may see this film as a work in progress, it’s actually considered complete–warts and all. The animation quality is reminiscent of those late 90s video games.

The marionette style quality in The Absurd, Surreal, Metaphysical and Fractured Destiny of Cerebus the Aardvark works to highlight the bizarro Conan the Barbarian-like world that writer/artist Dave Sims made. Oliver Simonsen is the director behind this film, and he got the creator’s approval to move forward. It took more than a decade to realise, and the result is something comic book aficionados can appreciate more than PIXAR fans. It’s for that reason I won’t give this product a numerical score.

When the Legends & Lore are Rewritten in The Eternals

Getting to know that many “heroes” in this ten people team known as The Eternals is exhausting!

Spoiler Alert

Marvel Studios release and Chloé Zhao‘s take on The Eternals isn’t very exciting when the heroes aren’t fully recognizing how they “changed” classical mythology. They were told to go into hiding as soon as they finished dealing with a space alien threat sent to prevent a birthing of sorts. The prime directive is to avoid interacting with the native species of Earth, humans, but the damage is done. There were witnesses.

After defeating the wolf-like invaders, the Deviants, sent by a cosmic overlord to destroy ancient man, this group parted ways. We don’t really know if all of them went underground or got involved with the cultures that lived nearby. I suspect a few did, and it explains why their names persist in history. I kept on wondering, “Where’s Hercules?” (Yes, he’s in the Marvel Comics canon and is an Avenger)

Shang Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings, A Movie Review

This film feels more like an obligatory product that had to be made because of Black Panther’s success

Wuxia movies are a dime a dozen. To stand out requires a proper vision. Somehow Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (SCLotR) lack the sense of feeling like an Asian film. It’s produced by Chinese-Americans, who are probably two generations removed from their heritage. Instead of earning their wings on some feudal period piece for television in Shanghai (or Hong Kong), they only have the approval of Disney to produce this piece.

This film begins nicely enough, with bits from Jackie’s Chan’s The Myth and Forbidden Kingdom mixed in, but somehow in the tale’s progression, it turns into something like a Black Widow type of film.

Want to be Batman? Not everyone can, but for those who want to ride the Batmobile, there are two options: pretend that they are where ever the vehicle pops up at conventions or pick up the remote control version of the toy, and fire up the augmented reality application (available on Android and iOS) to drive it around the neighbourhood! You’re more-or-less Robin with this “game.” Here, you can drive around all kinds of terrain and do battle with virtual foes within the app by activating weapons or other tools at your disposal.

The game features integration with the brand-new All-Terrain RC Batmobile from D.C. and Spin Master!

Who Is The Puppet Master in The Suicide Squad?

While The Suicide Squad is not likely to integrate with the rest of the DCEU anytime in the future, I’m hoping this rework proves that making more Rated R films is a must.

James Gunn has topped himself since he was given complete freedom to redo Suicide Squad. That 2016 film was great at introducing villains to do the dirty work that Uncle Sam doesn’t want to acknowledge, but isn’t all that memorable. This 2021 soft reboot that adds The to the title surpasses everything David Ayer attempted, and ups the ante. James‘ eccentric vision even includes a crazy build up to the finale typical for a Troma film (where this filmmaker got his start). Whether Ayer had to abide by the rules the Warner Bros and DC established with this franchise or he just did not understand the characters at all, Gunn makes the motley crew (from beginning to end instead of those who survived) rootin’, tootin’ hilarious.
