James Gunn let fans know what a marvellous time he had on set for Guardians.

GuardiansGalaxyWhile many Canadians were celebrating Victoria Day, a day named after one of the historical British monarchs, other nerdy type Canadians were instead hailing Facebook’s special Guardians of the Galaxy Q & A in the morning and Marvel’s newly released trailer by the afternoon.

In attendance for this event were Director James Gunn, actors Chris Pratt (Peter Quill / Star-Lord), Dave Bautista (Drax the Destroyer) and Karen Gillan (Nebula).

Guardians of the Galaxy Packs a Double Punch

By James Robert Shaw (The Wind up Geek)

In two days we’ll learn more about what we may expect from Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. Will it topple all competition and be called the blockbuster of the summer or will it be known as the summer I got too over excited and parted with my ticket money. For now I’ll say who cares. It is science fiction and goodness knows I’m still waiting for a new decent sci-fi to satisfy me. Sorry, Ridley Scott.

But until I am in the theatre on opening night, here is two teaser trailers to tide our readers over.

The Generations May Not Understand Godzilla 2014

By Ed Sum (The Vintage Tempest)

Godzilla2014

* Spoiler Alert

After ten long years, Godzilla is back! This reworking of the megalithic behemoth from the deep marks this creature’s triumphant return to the big screen and although this version is not a Japanese take, British director Gareth Edwards shows that a touch of good character drama and reinvention is all that’s needed to reinvigorate this franchise for an American audience.

Faith is restored to loving a radioactive monster that is now symbolic of Nature’s unleashed fury moreso than its origins by being birthed by the atomic bomb. The all too quick opening sequence explains that for viewers to subliminally process. In the classic film made by Toho Studios, this beast is not only a metaphor for the nuclear devastation that destroyed Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan but also a symbol of terror. This looming essence represents a raw unrestrained power. The monsters it (not he, since the gender is unknown) fought often sought to subjugate humanity because of some alien race’s desire to conquer Japan, if not the planet Earth. In later films, it became an anti-hero.

CW’s Arrow gets Flashy with a Spinoff

By Ed Sum (The Vintage Tempest)

Because of CW’s success with Arrow, their next project, The Flash, will be on this network’s hit list to bring DC Comics’ universe to the small screen. That’s if Oliver can hit him. A crossover episode is inevitable and those in the know will see this speedster slowing down to appear in three episodes in season two of Arrow.

The question of whether or not this spinoff will succeed is hard to say. The costume looks slick, but for the attitude … The Flash in the DC Animated Universe was fun and developed to provide comedy relief. Will that carry over to the live-action? Only time will tell.

Fans of the original 90’s series will be thrilled to learn that John Wesley Shipp is bridging the gap in this new reboot/reimaging. But if the plot shows the passing of the torch, that will be a great nod to how the comics defined this character. The comic books did have different characters become The Flash.

The cast will also include Daneille Panabaker, Carlos Valdes, Tom Cavanagh, Jesse L. Martin, Candice Patton and Rick Cosnett.

The Vintage Tempest’s List of Top 5 Gojira Films!

To those people who have not been exposed to the original films, they may well want to check out the best of what Gojira has done over the past sixty years. Yes, ten years was spent in dormancy.

gojira

Today is the day that will rekindle interest in Gojira (ゴジラ), Toho Studio‘s iconic beast to a North American audience. Nevermind the fact that it’s a reboot by Legendary Pictures so people can forget Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin’s film, this new version (better known to English-speaking audiences as Godzilla) by British director Gareth Edwards looks like it’s going to be very promising!

To those people who have not been exposed to the original films, they may well want to check out the best of what Gojira has done over the past sixty years. Yes, ten years was spent in dormancy.

Presented here is a list of personal favourites that must be picked up first for any new fan’s beginning collection. 28 films have been made, and to boil down what is the best was not too hard of a task.

Batmobile Revealed with a Suited Up Ben Affleck

By James Robert Shaw (The Wind up Geek)

Batmobile2
Director Zack Snyder came through with a tantalizing photo of the new Batmobile and Ben Affleck in his new gear for the upcoming feature Batman Vs. Superman.

To me, the Batmobile looks like a cross between the Tumbler from Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight film series and the Batmobile from Tim Burton’s Batman starring Michael Keaton.

As it was said in the article from The Verge, the Batmobile looks more industrial. And with Ben Affleck looking more like Frank Miller’s interpretation of Batman, is there going to be some sort of Dark knight Returns element or is Aflleck expected to play a Batman of 55 years?
