ゴジラ RULES! in this Rare Print

By Ed Sum (The Vintage Tempest)

gojira

ゴジラ purists will no doubt only recognize the iconic beast by either its kanji or romanized name of Gojira. For purists, that’s the only name it goes by and thanks have to be given to Japanese manga artist Naoki Urasawa (Monster, Yawara) for creating an exclusive print that respects his true nature. Hopefully this print will see some form of distribution for fans to purchase this brilliant piece of work.

With the Legendary Pictures, Toho Films, Warner Bros logo, and copyright stamped below the poster, that must mean some company holds the rights to this print/artwork. The red stamp is Urasawa’s signature. Unlike in Western Culture, where an artists signs his name, in most Oriental societies, this stamp is unique to the artist and it is quite literally his ‘seal of approval.’

Should this print become available, fans of Urasawa’s art style can marvel as his technique. The brush strokes speaks of a determination — like that of a Fury flying through the night — and the light and dark ink tones reconigze the beast for what it is: a symbol of destruction in a war-ravaged city than something smashed up by beasts.

Fear Never Looked So Good

JasonBeing a huge geek I think I can safely say that I would have a hard time running away from a female version Vorhees (from Friday the 13th) if she looked this hot. It is death or a date? How do you fancy your chances.

This Bishoujo statue is based off the Jason Vorhees character, a boy who drowned at Camp Crystal lake due to staff negligence. Years later it is said the camp is cursed and a grown up zombie Jason haunts the land to take revenge upon anyone who would stay overnight.

Allthough we know Jason for his trademark hockey mask, this wasn’t part of his persona until he removed it from one of his victims in Friday the 13th Part 3 (1982).

This interpretation of an anime female character was created by famed Japanese illustrator Shunya Yamashita and was sculpted by Takaboku Busujima (Busujimax). It is part of the Freddy Vs. Jason line and stands over 8 1/2 inches tall (1/7th scale).

This statue will be available in November, 2014 and you can pre-order it through Kotobukiya USA.

Going Back in Time with X-Men: Days of Future Past, A Movie Review

By Ed Sum (The Vintage Tempest)

X-Men-German

14 years feels like a long time for this Uncanny X-men fan to see a wickedly fun comic book film that satisfies in every frame projected to a screen. Not since Sam Rami’s Spider-Man 2 has there been a movie that manages to expand past its original premise developed in the comics. For once the themes explored in Days of Future Past are very telling for its time. Director Bryan Singer succeeds in recreating the pathos needed to drive this film forward and his momentum never slows in this movie that features all my favourite mutants slugging it out Terminator: Judgement Day style, knowing every move they make will have ramifications for how the future is shaped.
