10 Best Geeky Movies Coming in 2023

Out of what’s coming (with a few pushed back to this itme), I have my list of the best geeky movies coming in 2023 that I can’t wait to see.

Top Ten Geeky Movies Coming In 2023 To Be Excited ForThe New Year is here, and the only thing some Hollywood studios may fear is in how well their slate of films will perform. Out of what’s coming (with a few pushed back to this itme), I have my list of the best geeky movies coming in 2023 that I can’t wait to see.

As for the drama that occured in the closing months, namely Warner Brothers rebooting their DC Cinematic Universe with James Gunn at the helm, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s is not as happy. What he was cooking up was a hope that he would lead the future, but alas, that was not meant to be. This wrestler turned actor really wanted his movie, Black Adam, to lead to a slate of work where he’s the focus, but alas, that’s not meant to happen. Much like the antihero of lore, he now just wants to be left alone and brooding.

I won’t go into all that went on with the Marvel Cinematic front. There’s lots of coverage which simply said Phase Four wasn’t the best and going forward, we should have a better direction. Elsewhere, the film scene is doing just great and as for what to enjoy in the pop culture front, I have boiled down the former top twenty list to a definitive top ten of must watch.

DreamWorks Puss in Boots: The Last Wish is Beautiful Purrfection!

Puss in Boots: The Last Wish is well worth the wait because production for this sequel wasn’t rushed and we have a tale that truly expands past what we know from past films

uss in Boots: The Last WishMild Spoiler Alert

What can a cat do when he runs out of his nine lives? In Puss in Boots (Antonio Banderas) latest adventure, The Last Wish, he has to seek a force beyond nature to grant him a new set of regenerations, like Doctor Who, to continue adventuring. Instead, his goal is to find a wishing star in true fairy tale fashion to regain those he lost in years prior. This simple premise keeps the story going forward because, throughout Puss’ adventure, he has to be careful in everything he does. Thus, any wrong step he makes might be his last. And along the way, there’s enough danger so he’ll have to consider taking that road more travelled. He never realised how reckless he’s become and all he ever wanted was to be remembered.

What makes this second outing better is that it delivers a fantasy not completely driven by concepts from Lewis Carrol and Aesop’s fables. As a result, this movie feels more like a good ol’ fashioned Pirates of the Caribbean style adventure, complete with some crazy encounters along the way. And what I enjoyed more is that I love the bad guys featured in this film! Here, we get a narrative that understands why Goldilocks stayed with the three bears. To see them become her henchmen makes sense even though we don’t know their whole story about turning into a crime family.

In A Christmas for Crows, Leonide the Vampyr Makes A Chilling Return

Leonide the Vampyr is ready to haunt your dreams in book two, A Christmas for Crows.

A Christmas for CrowsDark Horse Comics
Spoiler Alert

Comic book extraordinaire Mike Mignola has crafted a character which I believe will surpass even Wednesday Addams’ fame. There’s more than meets the eye to who Leonide the Vampyr is, and in book two, A Christmas for Crows, her backstory suggests her curse was preordained. I will not spoil too much of this beautiful story. All I can figure out so far, before she got turned, must have been very complex.

And throughout the years, she’s been selective in who was bled dry in order for her to go on. Those victim’s curse seems to differ from hers. One family might have metamorphosized into crows, hence this volume’s title and like the Wandering Jew, both are fated to chase the night. In this latest work, this murder visit Leonide, and as for what they do, well, that’d be revealing too much.

A Mix Tape of Delightful Media for Winter Solstice 2022. Yule Be Glad.

Here, we present a list of best Winter Solstice reads, viewing material and other goodness to keep to the spirit of the chilly season.

Winter Solstice at StonehengeOn the darkest night of the year on December 21, 2022, Winter Solstice is a good time to get cosy with a ghost story. Some people enjoy a tale of terror with a classic work, or might be watching HBO Max’s Yule Log, which is new for this year. Once upon a time, people were fearful at this coming of darkness and to acknowledge it is probably why the love persists to this day. That superstition was common amongst Northern Europe people in the old days, but these days, having something cheerier to enjoy makes more sense.

Ancient man did not necessarily fear death. It is part of the cycle of life. From that comes rebirth, and what’s celebrated is not limited to just a few cultures. How I acknowledge this occasion is to enjoy a wide range of media which recognises the transition in some way instead of being very specific to the lore. That would make for a very short list.

From horror to celebratory, I’m aiming to suggest something old and something new to read, hear or view. What I offer is something to enjoy reading, a theatrical presentation on television or a song to listen to. I’m trying very hard to not pick works that’s more about Christmas than Yule. These days, the two terms are synonymous with each other, and it makes knowing what fits into my tighter definition difficult. And thus, I begin with:

The Yule Cat (YouTube)

This live action horror film is perfect to kick off the longest night of terror. Although not set to debut until the 24th, this work makes my list since it’s Icelandic folk horror at its best, and the teaser is perfect to tense things up. This work, along with the aforementioned and coming picks for 2022.
