Walt Disney Releases a Modern Short Films Collection!

51TCOfr9GALComing to Digital High Definition (online) on August 11 and heading to Blu-ray one week later, Walt Disney is releasing a modern Short Films Collection. This release is available for pre-orderShort Films on Amazon, and it will offer some recent titles that were once exclusive to owners of such works like Tangled.

The most engaging part to this new release is that fans of Frozen will get Frozen Fever, so young ones can hum to a new tune, “Making Today a Perfect Day.” But for other engaging videos, Feast and Get a Horse can be seen along with commentaries from the animators who crafted these ground breaking animations. This release can nicely complement the two Pixar Short Films Collection – Volume 1Short Films and 2Short Films, and hopefully the company may offer a three pack deal for enthusiasts who do not own these titles yet.

While this title does not cover Disney’s vast vault of animated shorts from the prior century, perhaps picking up Walt Disney Treasures – Disney Rarities – Celebrated Shorts, 1920s – 1960s is a must.

Thoughts on Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Second Trailer

By Ed Sum (The Vintage Tempest)

Starwarsviitheforceawakens

The second trailer to Star Wars: The Force Awakens is certainly signalling the passing of the lightsaber. Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) narrates this second piece by saying, “The Force is strong in my family. My father has it, I have it, my sister has it (whereupon Luke gives his original lightsaber away to who may be Leia) … you have that power too.” Just who is it? There’s no direct image to indicate exactly who, but it may well be with the Poe (Oscar Isaac), the X-wing pilot or Rey (Daisy Ridley), the lady running in the foreground. Usually, when constructing a trailer, it’s best to have the images flow with the text. When the trailer is meant to tease, it should not reveal exactly what’s going on, but instead suggest one of a few possibilities to have watchers guessing.

If the editors and J.J. Abrams are clever, it’ll be neither of the above, and just who is in the family bloodline has not been revealed yet. In the Expanded Universe created by Dark Horse Comics and various authors, Han and Leia are married, and they have children: Jaina, Jacen and Anakin. When the Walt Disney company acquired the franchise, they declared all of that as “Legends,” or rather an alternate universe that’s no longer considered canon. To be fair, to work the new film based on what’s created with no consortium would have led to a less than stellar screenplay, and to wonder what’s new, or if Poe or Rey are related to the Skywalker family is more exciting.

The Future is Bright for Big Hero 6, A Movie Review

Disney_BigHero6_Poster_BaymaxNot everyone will realize that Disney’s Big Hero 6 is based on a lesser known Marvel Comics property from 1998. The print edition was originally created by Steven T. Seagle and Duncan Rouleau, and they crafted a product that does not seem like it’s inspired from anime. The names are familiar, like Gogo to Golgo 13 and Honey Lemon to Cream Lemon. Thankfully there is no relationship to the latter comparison when considering it is an erotic product. If the executives of this company have known, they might not have approved this film’s go-ahead, or the roster of heroes that Hiro Hamada (voiced by Ryan Potter) managed to put together.

When considering that this CGI film premiered at the Tokyo International Film Festival on October 23, 2014, there were probably more than a few snickers within the audience.

Disney’s Gargoyles 20th Anniversary Late Tribute

Disney's Gargoyles LogoYes, I’m late in posting this information, but October 24th marked the official 20th anniversary of Disney’s Gargoyles on television. Can you blame me? Halloween was on my mind for more than a week, and I was getting ready to celebrate my most favourite time of the year that also included hunting for real life supernatural treats. When I’m a paranormal investigator, I can’t be stuck at the couch. However, I digress. As I write this tribute, I have the series playing on a second monitor.

Disney’s Marvellous Maleficent Poster

By James Robert Shaw (The Wind up Geek)

Maleficent1

Disney has released a new Maleficent poster and what a poster it is.Prominently displayed is Angelina Jolie in her black outfit with prominent horns, her pouty lips enhanced by the red lipstick and her left hand over her scepter.

This poster may eliminate criticism from naysayers of Jolie as the Sleeping Beauty villain.

The original Maleficent was animated by Disney animator Mark Davis and was based off of the appearance of the actress Eleanor Audley. Audley would voice the character in the 1959 Sleeping Beauty film after she previously voiced Lady Tremaine, Cinderella’s wicked stepmother, in Cinderella (1950).

Disney’s Maleficent will be in theatres May 30, 2014.

The newest trailer from Walt Disney’s Maleficent movie starring Angelina Jolie (Kung Fu Panda), Elle Fanning (We Bought a Zoo), Juno Temple (The Dark Knight Rises), Hannah New (TV’s Black Sails), Peter Capaldi (World War Z), Miranda Richardson (TV’s Parade’s End) and Imelda Staunton (TV’s Psychoville) premiered yesterday.

Has anyone else found the song, Once Upon A Dream, fittingly eerie?
