A Movie Parody of Crazy “Monsternado” Proportions!

There may well be an alien that’s controlling this Monsternado. It’s here to do away with some pesky humans it recognizes as capable to ruin its plans for destroying world, one city at a time!

There’s a maelstrom coming to assault the US Eastern Seaboard, and when nearly every single beast from the sea has been sucked up by a waterspout, just where it’s headed is Miami! The Monsternado should be feared, and only Matt (Derek Miller, who also wrote this film) realises just how dangerous it is; despite his best attempts to warn FEMA, and anyone else who’ll listen, nobody believes him.

It’s easy to recognize this film is a fever dream of Tyler-James‘ (director). He’s married everything fans of SyFy’s Creature Feature movie block with Don’t Go In The Water, along with some spice from The Horror for good measure. I won’t even try to explain why a Megalodon got sucked up, but if you’re a believer in Hollow Earth theory, it’s possible! But as for scary aliens, that’s because the first few minutes concern some giant humanoid / crab type monster making landfall and attacking some poor soul. It’s even included in the trailer. However, after the title card, the story moves back to events 10 hours ago, and that’s the last I see of it.

In Its Wake Takes Place in the Belly of the Beast, A Movie Review

What’s presented in In Its Wake is a slasher film with up-and-coming talents wanting a creature feature to add to their resume.

Lee Foster‘s horror film, In Its Wake, is surprisingly accurate as far as the folklore is concerned. One reason this film caught my attention is that I can’t get enough of cinematic interpretations of the Wild Hunt! And whether it’s realised as an indie film or even a grander vision in the scale of Guillermo del Toro, I’ll watch them all! That’s because the significance of this supernatural act varies region to region. Some might say it’s to prevent the horrors of hell from terrorising the living, but others will know their appearance is a portent of an upcoming calamity!

In this film, this writer/director borrows from Germanic tradition, even though much of the tale takes place in some corner of Canada. Although the story is a continent away from where the WIld Hunt traditionally takes place, I can feign ignorance for now.

Want A Bloody Valentine? Vampus Horror Tales Are Here!

I wouldn’t call these tales presented in Vampus Horror Tales exceptional, but they do poke at what makes this upcoming day uniquely red.

Although Mr. Fettes (Saturnino García) is not a household name, I’m sure Latino fandom will love him! He’s not like Narciso Ibañez Serrador yet, but I’m sure the movie Vampus Horror Tales will help this gravedigger get some recognition. This actor gives his all to the role, and honestly, I loved these interludes a lot more.

This modestly budgeted horror anthology features other strange pathos going on, but to show why this cemetery custodian is tops, we have to wait to witness how he introduces each tale by the stroke of his own hand.

Riki the Rhino Aims to Tease with its Conservational Message

Ultimately, Riki the Rhino is about how he can learn to hold his head up high with or without his signature snout.

Riki the Rhino can easily get missed when parents are looking for wholesome animated films for their kids to watch. Thankfully, this film can be streamed too, as it’s uncertain if every big box store will carry the home video release.

This work not only teaches the value of friendship in the same vein as Disney’s The Lion King, but also animal conservation. In order to deal with the latter in a non-violent way, the fights are no less threatening than what one sees at Spanish bullfighting.

It won’t win huge awards because CGI is less than stellar. The production and pixel art is similiar to the effort put behind A Turtle’s Tale, and that’s only because in other countries (Indonesia, in this instance), the production houses don’t have the computer render farms PIXAR has. However, in terms of its narrative, every word and action counts here.

Halloween is early with today’s release of Tales From the Other Side. This horror anthology has both light and devil-may-care B movie style frights where three kids are left on their own to go trick or treating. Just who they meet isn’t necessarily a friendly old grandma.

This film created by committee is an idea that has its moments. And although the title sounds like the makings of a new franchise ala Tales from the Darkside, there’s significant differences. Alternatively, maybe it’s more like an EC Comics publication.

Neither does it bear any semblance with the audiobooks by Raymond Singclare Cobb or Heather Christie’s play of the same name. The only similarity is with how each independent work seeks to enthral and entertain fans of horror with tales of the supernatural.

Kevin Nash Don’t Want to Be “Lockdown”

This low-fi indie thriller Lockdown nails the lowdown on what can happen when fear gets the better of people.

Not to be confused with the similarly titled Lock Down coming to HBO Max, there’s another work that deals with the pandemic. Lockdown (formerly COVID-19: Invasion) stars WWE Hall of Famer Kevin Nash (John Wick, The Punisher). This man of few words is out on the hunt!

This low-fi indie thriller nails the lowdown on what can happen when fear gets the better of people. The story written by Micah Lyons shows what if the world could not get a handle on the virus that’s decimating millions. Everyone has been segregated into groups and it’s by their choice to remain sick or not. In this tale, Rex (Nash) and his men plan on killing a bunch of squatters at a high school in the belief that will slow down the spread of covid. But another individual doesn’t want to see his little sister die.
